I was wondering if anyone knew if Skyfall is based on a real building or
a type of house found in the highlands, or completely made up for the
Film ?
As it looks very stark, so could be, a visual statement from the director
marching the rather bleak countryside.

Surrey? lol, they fooled me. )
However, I did a little digging, and in the same way Stourhead House is the real life inspiration for Creighton Manor, its clear that one of the Skyfall recces did have have an inspirational impact on the film to a certain degree.

There also appear to be architectrual influences from Victorian grand shooting Lodges, like The Mar Lodge.

Swamp?! What Swamp? Surely they didn't mean the Loch? Skyfall as a design is a bit odd to my eyes. Most of the shooting lodge style houses where I grew up (granted in the east, the other side of Scotland) usually had larger more open windows. Or, they were grand old houses bordering on Castle territory, with towers and turret detailing all over the place. Only much smaller lodge cottages (such as for the Ghille or the Groundskeeper) in the grounds or at the driveway entrance gates had narrower windows along the lines seen at Skyfall. - I'm no architect, and my history is rusty, but I always thought Skyfall Lodge looked a bit "one off" in style from that standpoint?
or hoose as they say in Scotland ) I dinny nee (don't know) but its typical highland architecture
