I think it's left up to the viewer to wonder whether Hinx died or not. Given his reaction in Austria when his car crashed, I think he's still alive. But it depend on your interpretation.
Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"

When I saw Spectre the second time around, I watched for that moment very carefully.
Considering Hinx did not show up after that scene we can assume he is dead, unless he is brought back in a future film.
Its a shame we did not see him chasing Bond chasing Blofeld in the old MI6 building, in a game of Dog chasing Cat chasing Mouse. (No offense to the actors!) That lost opportunity, combined with his own "Yippie Ki Ay" moment, is why I think he is a can of spam.
Having said that he was a brilliant henchman, one of the best for years, so I would be thrilled to be proved wrong.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
I think he will show up again. He almost had his fingers round the rope which would have helped as the barrels pulled him out.
I think he may become a bit of a "Jaws" character (watched Moonraker this afternoon and he came back after going over that massive waterfall didnt he )

Yes, came back after the waterfall, after crashing in a cable car, after landing without a parachute, after swimming miles at sea, after surviving Atlantis (Man bites shark!) after being electrocuted and thrown from a train... have I missed anything? Richard Keil, absolute legend.

Should they choose to being him back he will no doubt be disfigured from his fall off the train resulting in him looking even more iconic (scarred, prosthetic limb etc) and with a personal vendetta against Bond for f@#$ing him up so much. Look forward to it.
I hope they don't announce his casting though and leave it as a surprise. I loved SPECTRE but there were no real twists or surprises. It was (very good) Bond by numbers.
Ordinarily, I'd say that without a doubt he's still alive because we saw so little of Hinx and what we did see suggests he is all but indestructible . . . but with the crew making the Bond films, I'm not so sure they would follow up to the obvious and logical.

Good point. I was very frustrated that in the SPECTRE boardroom meeting they didn't continue on with the use of colours for names that was hinted at in CR an QoS ie. Mr White, Mr Slate...even Mr Green(e). That would have been a great update of the Number 2, Number 5 method used in the early Bond films.
Don't you think him coming back would be a bit unrealistic? X-(

That ship has well and truly sailed. We are now in an Austin Powers style Bondinverse with white cats and scarred Blofeld so anything, and I do mean anything is possible.
Of that of which we cannot speak we must pass over in silence- Ludwig Wittgenstein.
Why are we suddenly unprepared to accept hinx's return? Jaws survived, I know tee hee didn't. Jaws is lauded as a legendary bond villain and since the franchise has returned to a more mooresque style why not let hinx return?
I think we are a long way off Austin Powers though.....a looooong way.
Although, I'm a little upset that no one has yet mentioned the terrible trauma and
ordeal that Mrs Hinx and all the little Hinx's are having to deal with.

One less stocking to hang by the fireplace this Christmass at the Hinx residence.
one less present under the tree,
one less cheek to kiss goodnight from the children
one name scratched of the spectre lottery ticket pool.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him back...probably depends on DC returning though.

I would love him to come back and bust Blofeld out of gaol. That would be excellent.
