Project 007(working title) A brand new game from IO Interactive

It's been a few years since we had a new Bond game, so i was surprised to see this! IO Interactive are making a Bond game. The 007 twitter has RTd it.

They are the same company that make the Hitman games, which i am a big fan of. I wonder if they'll take elements from that series and put it into the new Bond game.

They have posted a teaser on their Youtube channel

This is exciting stuff. Particularly the bit about it being an original story. Hopefully they use a generic likeness of Bond and don’t go with Craig since his tenure is effectively over. My dream has long been for an open-world Bond game. This could be it.

Saw the teaser trailer for this on You Tube today, I am very excited to see how the game develops. Hope that it will be available for the Nintendo Switch since I just got one for my birthday this year.

    Despite the expectations ...
Only hope you can evolve in the Bond Universe with lots of personalisation ...
I don't thik the player will be in the 007 shoes ...
Maybe we can create our own agent ...
It would be great and leaves lots of oportunities.
An Online mode would also be great.
    Wait and see ... -{

As an enormous fan of 007 and (as someone who went through the trouble to point out the obvious stuff in the Hitman forums seeing as the people behind Hitman are BIG Bond fans) I saw this coming a mile away but I never thought this would be true.
The best Bond game out in the market was modern HITMAN, I'm so excited about this game I can't put into words.
There has never been a more fitting developer for a Bond game. To whomever it may be concerned, congratulations. You read my pleas.
    a reasonable rate of return

I hope IO Interactive will do something different with the combat system. Have a combat system which uses throws, blocks and environmental weapons.

EON did this in 2003 and that worked well.

'Det er stadig svært at forstå': Skæbnemøde bragte James Bond-satsning til Danmark

Some new details on project 007:

    - Life-threatening missions, raucous car chases and evil villains that will take over world domination
    - The game will not be based on any of the 24 films that have been released
    - James Bond will be the lead role
    - IO Interactive wants to build a James Bond universe from scratch
    - The digital Bond is original and will not resemble any Bond actor
    - A completely original story, that a trilogy could come out of it
    - The meeting with EON Productions was the culmination of almost two years of work and preparation

    I’m happy to see that it’s an original story, and IOI is not basing Bond off of any past actors. Finally someone trying to move the Bond franchise forward after years of imitation Fleming from IFP and endless Craig from EON! -{

In the lead-up to Hitman 3's release on Steam (I refuse to patronise Epic Games), I have been revisiting the first two seasons of the Hitman reboot trilogy. I've always felt that I/O are a worthy developer for a new James Bond game, and indeed I am still keen to see how this plays out for the developer. But, I hope there's more to it than a 007 themed Hitman game. For this reason, I don't believe disguises will play a role in the new James Bond game since it would just amount to being a 007 themed Hitman mod. It could work for a Mission Impossible game, but not so much for Bond.

The best elements of Hitman that, I feel, will work in I/O's 007 game will be:

    • Open ended approaches to finishing mission objectives
    • Atmosphere
    • Pacing
    • Soundtrack
    • Subterfuge as an incentive to unlock certain perks ahead of guns blazing

All of the above can play into the elements that we have been wanting to see more from a James Bond game including hacking, sneaking, seduction/charm, gadgetry, and Walther PPK gun play ahead of AK47s and Bazookas.

These types of games take years to create. Would be shocked if we saw it before 2024. But I think Bond is in really good hands with IOI. I’ve been waiting for an open-world Bond game, well, forever. If they get the story right, it could end up being really special.

Regardless of the wait time, I am sure it will be worth it. Hope that there is an article or two published in Game Informer in the near future. It is always exciting reading up on new video games that in the works.

Hope that the wait will be worth it, 10 years is a long time to go without a new game. Glad that I still have a majority of the previous games to enjoy until then.

FWIW a not very good 'update' on Project 007. All it really tells us is that they have been talking to EON for many many years about doing a Bond game and they got to visit Pinewood during NTTD filming.

Doesn’t really tell us anything about the game that we didn’t already know. That said, I like the approach they’re taking. But it will come down to the execution. My biggest question is whether they set the game in the present or if they do it in the 60s. Most likely the present day, but doing a period game would allow them to differentiate it from the Hitman series more easily.

  • SomeoneSomeone Posts: 1,537MI6 Agent

As its an origin story I'd be surprised if they made it a 60s era game. If you're aiming at a young audience then I don't think the past is a good place to locate yourself, unless your a fantasy game like Assassin's Creed.

Fair point, and I think you’re probably right.

Really hope that we get a good number of weapons and gadgets to use. One of the things that really bugged me about all of the Activision produced games was the fact that you could only carry and use three weapons at a time. As for the gadgets, I really hope that we get a decent number, and they add to the gaming experience helping you to accomplish objectives as needed.

A bit more Project 007 news.

"It's going to tell the story of the first Bond and how it becomes the secret agent that he is, but that's what we can comment on."

The first Bond, so set in the 1960s?

I interpreted this more as just another confirmation that it’s an origin story not tied to any of the cinematic Bonds. I don’t think that necessarily means it will be set in the 50s/60s, although making it a period game would certainly allow them to clearly differentiate it from the Hitman IP. To me, the time period is probably the most important detail we’ll get before the game actually comes out. It’s a bit irritating, though, that they keep dubbing it the “first” Bond origin story when we’ve had numerous Bond origin stories at this point. Just feels like a lazy angle.

^ That is exciting! Maybe only to me but a game based around this would be awesome.
