Real Bond NATO Watchstrap Update!

As many of you know, I have embarked on a project to recreate the "Real Bond" NATO watchstrap, as worn by Sean Connery in the classic James Bond Films "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball."

I spoke with Phoenix Straps the other day. They are expecting the fabric from the mill March 1. It will take them a week or so to fabricate the straps after that. So, let's say March 15?

To get the watchstrap colors exactly the same as in the movie, I had have the threads custom dyed, which required a much larger fabric order. However, I am able to have the order broken up into three widths, 18, 20 and 22mm. Also, the straps will be made in both the NATO style and the RAF style.

I have all the details, including the colors and pattern, on a new webpage:

http://www.corvuswatch.com/index.asp?page=watchbands

I don't want to do preorders, as I don't want to sit on people's money any longer than necessary. I will open up ordering around the first week of March, after I hear the straps are being shipped to me. You then will be able to order and pay through a secure checkout system.

If you haven't done so already, please pm me or use the contact form on the website if you would like to be emailed about any updates, or if you would like me to reserve you one or more straps. Also, those who have contacted me will get first notice when I open up ordering. I'll also be sending a poll to those who have contacted me so we can get a final count on widths and styles.

Thank you to everyone who has shown an interest in this project. It has been a longer road than I expected, but if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. Again, I appreciate all your support.

Cam

Call me a heretic but I'll put mine on a 20-mm band - not the 18-mm - unless someone can tell me with any kind of certainty why Bond wore his on an 18.

My guess is that Cubby Broccoli couldn't find a 20-mm or like the colors on the 18-mm that he selected.

Of course, to show my complete lack of taste, I may just put mine on an "Olongapo" band on the rare occasion - such as when I'm celebrating my time in the service.

Here's an example of an Olongapo band if you've never seen or heard of them...they're quite unique and generally a product of the Philippines.

No, I don't have one handy. I've been meaning to take a picture to post over at MWR. Perhaps this weekend.
