abby, i take it you work for GEF, so with that in mind, has any of the 'problem areas' on the model been rectified? by that i mean the overweight dash knobs, the massively huge hinge in the door panel that helps conceal the 'phone and the tread pattern on the tyres?

The tyres have been changed,I read that in an article about the launch party. They re proper miniature Avon Turbospeeds now.

    Thanks for the feedback minigeff.

As with the rest of the model the knobs on the dashboard have been seen and approved by Aston Martin engineers and we think they look great. The hinge in the door needs to be that size and must have been pretty clunky on the car used in the movie after the modifications! Kai Rowe's post is correct we are using the Avon Turbospeed tyres.

really? you really think they look great? sorry for being so cynical, but that dash would look great in one of Aardman's fantastic productions.

    does anyone think that this;

    interiorsb3.png

    looks like this?;

    Aston-Martin-DB5-int-670x446.jpg

    take the dashboard alone.

the dials are too small, the background of the dash should be matt, not gloss, there 2 lever type switches missing, the steering wheel shouldn't be orange, the thickness of the dial rims and the edge of the dash are too thick and the indicator stem is too fat as well.

no, it doesn't 'need to be that size'. it might 'need to be that size' to match your production budget. but i know this detail could have been done better.

At least you got that detail changed.

Look, i'm not purely picking the **** for the sake of it. but i personally believe that the GEF db5 is a representation, not an accurate model of the db5.

its hard to compare it against anything else, as nothing else has been done for this kind of budget, but in scale terms, put it alongside an amalgam model. the level and accuracey of detail is no where near. mind you, neither is the price, but at this size of scale, the details should be alot better than this, regardless of the RRP.

just my 2 cents like, but a £600 1:8 model should have better details than a 1:18 bburago.

I did see the detail on the pictures of the 1:8 model and was disappointed at the significant differences from the original car that was sold in November. It is my intention to make these sections from scratch and make it a truer model. I know it's going to be a lot of work but being such a large scale model I think it's not beyond my capabilities. All that said I am surprised that Aston Martin said it was good representation as there are issues.

I can only assume given the release date of early January these 'concerns' may/will not be fixed.

    Pity.....

PS Still can't wait to start building it! The bburago joke made me laugh as I collect those as well

    Hi,
Can someone from GE Fabbri say with any certainty if the model is going to be released in Australia - and when?
  • GE FabbriGE Fabbri Posts: 5MI6 Agent
    Hi All,

Not too much I can add to the earlier post. Obviously we are biased but... we do think our model looks great and the people who have seen the actual model tend to agree.

We do not know for certain if the magazine will be launched in Australia but if it does it will be in the next 12 months - sorry I can't be more specific.

    Thanks

nice to see all the points are taken on board and explained to us so we know how you come to your conclusions.

even FE managed to address people's concerns and comments.

to just state 'we think it looks great' and bypass anyone's thoughts is just a pure sign of arrogance that i can't stand.

so in light of that, i'll say i'd rather pay £600 to put my hands in a blender and count myself out of this one. if ya want a job doing and all that....

I think the feedback from GE Fabbri could have been more informative and not so dismissive, but it shouldn't detract from what is going to be a fabulous model (he says having subscribed!). I will collect with interest and see it as a hobby piece that needs work.

It's interesting again to see a manufacturer using this forum for feedback and opinions. Hopefully they will listen a learn. My SE GG arrives on Friday so I will commenting on it's quality and accuracy in that thread. Is there a pattern developing here?

Genuinely didn’t mean to sound dismissive or arrogant and was trying to keep the post light hearted – I have to confess that I’m not a frequent forum user. Apologies to anyone offended by my earlier post.

minigeff, I’m not quite sure what I can say to address your concerns. The model has been in development for 18 months and has been checked and approved by both Aston Martin and Eon Productions at various stages. A lot of care has been taken over attention to detail on the model but there are certain limitations even when working on a 1:8 scale. I’m genuinely disappointed that you feel our model is not up to scratch and your opinion is completely valid.

Steve, glad you are looking forward to the model. If you have subscribed the first delivery will probably be around the second week of Jan – I’ll make sure to update the forum when the first issues are despatched.

i'm really tempted to subscribe mr GE Fabbri, but honestly I think £600 is too much for the quality of the model.

i guess i could scratch build the parts i'm not happy with, but like i say, £600 is alot of money for something i know will need more work for me to be satisfied.

Well, looking and comparing those pics to the original I'm saying you GE guys
have taken quite a few short cuts with this one.
Seriously Danbury Mint Aston Martin D5 details looks better through magnifying glass and it's scale is...what 1:24 :o

Are you guys related to FE :v Just kidding with that ;)

Perhaps it's too early to judge anything, but as MG stated £600 is a lot of
money to pay for something which does not match with expectations...

Well thanks for that, GE Fabbri. I will hope that the model does come to Australia, and sooner rather than later. I am sure quite a few collectors would be interested!

I'm also hoping this comes to Australia. Seems like some in the UK don't appreciate what they have access to. Its a lot harder to get hold of models here and we seem to pay a lot more for everything.

Well it's a free market, so each of us can decide whether something is worth buying or not. While I would love the DB5 to come to Australia, I'll happily wait for it to be launched in the UK first. Then by the time it gets to Oz we will hopefully have quite a few objective reviews of what the parts look like and how well they fit together... :007)

The changing of the tyres are a pain in the ass..What about the people who bought the first six issues at the start of the promo..are these 6 issues now obsolete???..they never should have accepted our Direct Debit subscriptions. -{ :007)

Having like many here not gotten anywhere with trying to contact GEF I have filled out the subscription 3 times thinking I had entered the info incorrectly, I hope someone at GEF spots this when publication finally goes ahead and I'm only sent and charged for only 1 not 3 separate subscriptions

I did this when the car collection came out. I ended up with a duplicate delivery of items for about 18 issues until they automatically canceled one subscription (no input from me which I thought was a bit odd). I was able to sell the duplicates on for more than retail value though so it didn't work out too bad...

I am a newbie, i found this via facebook

Well after much thinking about this, i decided to go for it.. i subscibed .. still no confirmation .

i also avoid partworks has i have been caught out before and never finished the model which is annoying and costly mistakes.

the model looks amazing from the videos.. but its details that complete the model, i agree the hinge looks clumsy. we will cross that bridge when we get there..

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum so I would firstly like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Kevin Spencer and I'm the managing editor of OTB Publications. One of our monthly magazines is entitled Collectables. I'm a fanatical collector of all genres including James Bond. Some of my favourite pieces are original film props - but I will bore you all with threads on that later. :))

I just wanted to add my comments/opinions to this thread. Living in London I've just been exposed to the new advertising campaign for the 1/8th scale DB5 model. I must admit that I'm generally not a huge fan of partworks as they tend to work out more expensive than a similar item available via a normal retail outlet. However, it seems to me that other than 1/8th models produced by the company Amalgam, there isn't much out there to compare this particular partwork with - or am I wrong?

My initial question is that the full edition now seems to be 85 issues whereas the test area edition was supposedly fixed at 75 issues. Can anyone enlighten me on this increase?

Im disappointed by the seeming lack of interest in this project.Thought Bond fans everywhere would be chomping at the bit for this.
Id subscribed anyway but I could nt wait,so when I saw it yesterday in the Newsagents I snapped it up.A very impressive first issue with some great bumpf and foldouts.Well worth £1.99 in anyones money!!We should all get behind this-the ceiling is nt exactly caving in under the weight of quality Bond merchandise at the moment now is it?
    Roll on August 2012(completion date)

8-) Sorry to disappoint you, but are "Bond fans" supposed to be enthusiastic about all and everything regardless of cost or quality? For me the car simply doesn't look right with its separate body sections, the interior is terrible (as shown in the photos), and the price is far too high when compared to a highly detailled, ready-built 1:12 Kyosho. Even if some details have been changed after the initial release, it does still not convince me.

But I am glad you like it and I hope that you will inform us here as the kit progresses.

Certainly this is an expensive "Model" but I have been seduced by it enough to subscribe, having bought part one today. foolish waste of money we will see -but if I complete the model and have it on display I am sure it will give me viewing pleasure and will be an interesting topic for visitors to my humble abode. :)
