Thought it funny walking past a poster for "Johnny English-Reborn" that Rowan Atkinson is now closer to Fleming's description of Bond than the current holder of the Post :D

    True Dat. Bloody funny.

I do agree I just don't get the Craig thing, I can see why women would be attracted to, Connery Dalton Brosnan etc, But Craig !
Although I do have to thank him, because for the first time I can watch a Bond film and think I'm Better looking than the Star :))
Also re- reading my last post I think I sound a little preachy so I'll apologise for that.
No need to apologise old bean I'mwith you all the way as to Craig being totally inappropriate for the role of Bond and as to what a great actor all he bloody does is grimace, pout and look bloody miserable [so thats where you have been going wrong Sir lawrence].

Well guys, sorry to burst your bubble...and your anti Craig rant.... but there are plenty of us girls who find Daniel VERY attractive. I have a key ring, with his picture on.... (yeh, I know.... ;) ) but it always gets a reaction, and usually of the "Oh he's lovely...." or other such comments that I won't post here.... ;%

I'm not going to try and convince you otherwise, as I don't suppose my arguments would change your mind. You either get Craig, or you don't. He's not classically good looking, in the saccharine way that Pierce Brosnan is.... but then, not all women find him attractive either.

It's all a matter of taste and opinion - and I for one, (as are lots of other women) are happy that Craig, who is, to me, extremely attractive.... is Bond.
I guess you guys are just going to have to skip the next couple of instalments, caus I don't think he's going anywhere, and his popularity is most definitely growing....

ahh, feel better now, that has been bugging me all w/end :))

Bless you Lexi, You are correct it is all a matter of taste. :D

Mine is refined and sophisticated with the logical and precise development of the male mind.

( I don't really think this but I've established a bit of a reputation for being a bit of a neanderthal, so I have to keep it up ) ;)

So I'm off now to clean out Pigeon shed and take whippet for t'walk :))

I don't think men are meant to know the vagaries of what's attractive to women or not.

As long as Craig is out there fighting the good fight on behalf of crinkly faced 40 something's from middle England then I'm happy.

I agree with Lexi, they are superb books, amongst the best I have read over the past 5 years or so. I have seen the first two original films and thought the first was excellent while the second disappointed a bit (but was still good). I really don't think it's necessary to remake the Swedish originals as they are brilliantly acted, beautifully shot and just damn good films...but I know that not everyone's into subtitles. Craig's casting will work well I believe, but ultimately I think one of the things that made "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (book and film) as good as it was was its grittiness. I hope Hollywood doesn't wimp out and soften a nasty story unnecessarily.

The quality of a remake is always a crap-shoot. Nine times out of ten you'll end up with a bad remake by directors who don't give a **** but sometimes you end up with a good remake like Insomnia (2002) 3:10 to Yuma (2007) The Manchurian Candidate (2004) and True Grit (2010)

The best remake ever is the Departed!
You know in America it’s “bling, bling”, but out here it’s “bling, bang”.

Michael Caine voice" The Departed holds the record for a movie to win best picture at the oscars with the most swearing in it, not alot of people know that " :))

    Now this is one movie that I hope will put Craig back in the limelight for the right reasons....-{

I think it's sad to see Craig so sullen and drawn Looking, He's Normally so happy and Cheerful. Still I suppose he must get in to the part. as opposed to getting his Part in to some ........................ Theres a dirty Joke here But I far too much of a gentleman to tell it. :))

Do you think I should read the book first, or see Craig's film first?

Definitely read the book to get all the details which I think the film will skim through. The Book is fantastic, by the way. Highly recommended.

I've read the books and seen the original movies. I think this remake has a tough road to follow. The books are outstanding and the films were excellent. Noomi Rapace's portrayal of Lisbeth Salander was spot on. From watching the previews it seems to me they may be getting carried away with making Lisbeth too edgy which will make her less sympathetic. Rapace found the sweet spot between edginess and vulnerability which really made the Swedish films work. I am looking forward to seeing it though.

Not quite Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, but here's a clip with Harrison Ford having a Joke with Daniel Craig, so far it hasn't had a lot of views so might be new to some.

I've seen all the movies - (and read the books) and although the movies are good... if you hadn't read the books you would be completely lost - and big chunks of plot were left out. I think Noomi Rapace's portrayal was spot on.... but I am looking fwd to the remake - just to see if they are more standalone - in other words, you don't need to read the books first.

NapI highly recommend all of the books - they are the best novels I've read in a long time.... and it's so frustrating that there seems to be a fourth... but all caught up in red tape since Larsson’s death - and not sure it will ever see the light of day. You will prob enjoy the movie more if you know the full story – no matter how good the remake will be…. There is no way they can fit it all in :))

I find it interesting that the origional title of the first book was changed from "Men who hate women" to the more neutral "The girl with the dragon tatoo". Why did the editors chose to changeit like that? Is there a cultural differance between Scandinavia and the English speaking world? I am also curious of what the title is in other languages.

Think it's simply a matter of selling books. 'Men Who Hate Women' isn't the most reader-friendly title. By giving the books a tie-in title; 'The Girl with etc, etc' they can link all the books together and target a wider readership.

Here's a link to an article about Craig's appearance on BBC TV telling parents to leave the kids at home. Also a video from the premiere with an interview with Craig, Rooney Mara, and Srellan Skarsgaard.

Personally, I think "Men Who Hate Women" sounds like a topic on the Oprah Winfrey Show or some such touchy-feely self-help program. Then again, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has always struck me as sounding like one of the John Gardner or Raymond Benson Bond titles!

Londoners will note that the Empire L Square is showing the original (Swedish) Dragon Tatoo from Dec 23. A bit like Warner Village re-releasing Thunderball when NSNA got released.

The movie is fantastic. Rooney Mara steals it of course. It will be big.

The opening credits are simply astounding and set the tone for the whole movie.

Another Craig film meets with poor box office results and just so people don't think that is just my opinion here is a quote from an article I read,

"The weekend's newcomers failed to light up the box office, too. Fincher and Craig's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" from Sony was No. 4 with $13 million, Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin" from Paramount was No. 5 with $9.1 million and Crowe, Damon and Johansson's "We Bought a Zoo" from 20th Century Fox was No. 6 with $7.8 million."

Still waiting for Craig to have box office success outside Bond,

I'm glad it outperformed 'We Bought a Zoo' though. That would have been a disaster.
