Skyfall's effect

Skyfall has indeed become a very important film amongst Bond films.

so much so that i've actually come to question what makes a 'real' Bond film now.

Skyfall hugely succeeded (imo) in channeling the Connery Bond films. Except for OHMSS, no other Bond films had done this for some reason or another. Skyfall can be viewed alongside Connery's films and OHMSS and there is almost zero dichotomy. It's yet another brilliant aspect of Skyfall if you ask me.

If CR did a number on the Bond film universe, SF does it again by bringing the franchise full circle (without Connery, a great feat indeed).

I've gone back and watched and rewatched Connery's films and have come to the realization that James Bond IS the character in those films. That same character re-appears in SF (after making somewhat of a cameo in OHMSS). Not even DAF does this.

so what makes a real Bond film?
if it channels DN, FRWL, GF,TB or YOLT, if it makes you feel as though you are back in that universe, and if Bond is the character in those films, then its a real Bond film. My new top 10 accordingly -

FRWL
DN
TB
SF
YOLT
GF
CR
QOS
OHMSS

I do think that SF has come the closest to taking Fleming's 1950s/60s Bond and bringing him into the 21st century that we will ever see. It may not be perfect, but it's certainly closer than any other film or continuation novel yet.
