Still waiting for my copy. Hope it arrives next week.  ajb007/martini

Yes, me too. I imagine reading this with a glass of port after a typical gorging at the xmas dinner table...

I intend to start some very confrontational conversations tomorrow, so doubt that you'll have time to read the book  ajb007/biggrin

Anyway - I'm having so much fun reading Simes inane ravings over at CBn - he's obviously not letting 'facts' get in the way of his silly rantings   ajb007/rolleyes

Re: The Most Famous Gun In The World

Arrived yesterday , on skipping through it yesterday lots of interesting details, especially the fact that RMs nickel plated .44 in LALD was an original blued Model 29-2 especially plated for the movie, this give me three Bond style handguns ajb007/smile

Re: The Most Famous Gun In The World

So...finally...after resisting the temptation to open the golden envelope the second it arrived yesterday...I did the deed !

I have to say that it's very apt this tome (I simply refuse to call this a magazine) arrives in a golden envelope - it's arrival and opening should be heralded by trumpets and delivered on a red satin cushion braided with gold !

Probably like most fans, I've never really given much thought to the weapons used in the Bond films...sure, I know Bond started off with a Beretta and had that taken off him and replaced with a Walther PPK and then a P99...but beyond that...?...and villain weapons...?...embarrassingly not  ajb007/embarrassed well, now help is at hand  ajb007/biggrin

The wealth of knowledge within is simply staggering  ajb007/amazed

The photographs are set to become reference images for years to come  ajb007/martini

This opus is split down into chapters by film - referencing each make/model/type of firearm used, with images of the weapons themselves and other photographs I've never seen before  ajb007/amazed

I'm amazed by the depth that the author has gone into...the veracity of the information is unequivocal and I had no idea how cool some of these weapons are ! Reading through this oeuvre just shows you the thought that goes into even the smallest detail of anything that is put up on screen !!!

This is a tome that I will have to devour over several weeks...probably months and years...as the information contained therein is too much for my tiny mind to hold  ajb007/amazed
Gun geeks will wet their pants reading this - its THAT good  ajb007/heart

I can only repeat what Asp9mm wrote - buy two, one to read and to use as THE reference book and one to cherish.

My only gripe - again the same as Asp9mm - is that this wasn't printed as a massive coffee-table sized hardback book !!!
The images inside deserve, nay DEMAND, this - as does the information that's imparted by the author.

The author deserves plaudits for putting his - what must be - life's work into print for the rest of us to read and admire  ajb007/martini

Now I'm just off to change my underwear  ajb007/lol

I can certainly see why this information would be so fascinating to the majority of members here.

Re: The Most Famous Gun In The World

Just received mine today and about to dig into it.

This thing looks very high quality and feels like it too. If the inside is even half as good as the outside then this was a bargain.  ajb007/martini

Pussy Galore: “My name is Pussy Galore.”
Bond: “I must be dreaming.”

Re: The Most Famous Gun In The World

Received mine today.

I can't say anything about it that Sir Miles hasn't already.

Yep, it should've been a jumbo coffee table hardcover.  If you're on the fence about ordering this, get it before they're gone.

Re: The Most Famous Gun In The World

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive...

Re: The Most Famous Gun In The World

Mine came today- I can only echo others; fantastic!!

I would love to see something similar done with vehicles.

This is where we leave you Mr. Bond. (Pilot, Apollo Airlines)

Re: The Most Famous Gun In The World

Two amazing facts that I learned from reading this magazine, in From Russia With Love when Kerim Bey fires Bond's AR-7 rifle the special effects department had to custom make a squib using a piece of felt dipped in gasoline since the AR-7 had difficulty using standard blank ammunition.

Additionally during the filming of You Only Live Twice, the Gryojet guns presented some issues. Since they fire case less ammunition, they could not be blank adapted like most firearms. The pistol version that Tiger Tanaka demonstrates to Bond was
fired using an actual 13mm round into the dummy. For the climatic battle scene, clay molds were made of the rifle versions which had pyrotechnic charges hidden in chambers beneath the handle shaped rear sights. Wires from these chambers  were attached to a button mounted below the trigger guard. Wires from this button were connected to batteries inside the stock of the rifle, once the switch was pressed the electrical current set off the charges to simulate firing the rockets.

Re: The Most Famous Gun In The World

This book is by far THE most informative Bond book that I've seen and had the pleasure of adding to my collection. Years of investigation by the author has resulted in the most comprehensive info on the weapons of the Bond series. Luckily, I now have an autographed copy of the Craig cover to keep in pristine condition in my modest collection as the Connery cover issue will surely be worn out from re-reading it time and time again!!!!!   Congratulations on the culmination of a 9 year journey!!! --ED
