Think I remember the proposal being thrown out as infringed on human rights - not as if you have an alternative at 30,000 ft unless you pee on the guy sitting next to you :D

Did Ryanair ever care about human rights?
Or about what's along the law anyhow?

Would a bus company, a ferry or train company treat their customers like this? I actually doubt it.

Is this not potentially a move in the right direction? Though it does seem odd given their cultures view and treatment of women.

I very much doubt this is good. Saudi Arabia will stay woman-hating, but they'll use this position in the UN to block progress.

This is exactly it. Plus, it is trying to make themselves look better and create a kind of smoke screen so people focus less on the human rights violations for women in Saudi Arabia.

I also suspect the US didn't block the membership of Saudi Arabia because they have simmular agendas when it comes to abortion. Also, I suspect human rights and especially women's rights are low on the current administration's agenda. Our Foreign Minister refuses to say what the Norwegian vote was. This makes me suspect we at least didn't vote against SA, probably because our country is more dependent on the US than almost anybody for our security.

I doubt abortion was the issue (I am sure Trump has paid for many.) That being said I have no idea how anyone could overlook the positively medieval role of women in SA. Particularly being under "ownership" of your father then husband. I consider it legal slavery. Oh no, am I sounding to feminist? :v

    What's wrong with sounding feminist?
No-one ever asks if they sound "too civil rights", so what's wrong with standing up for the rights of women?

In general it is considered a dirty word. And I am a huge feminist because I believe I am equal to any man and should be treated as such. And I think more men should think of themselves as feminist if they believe their Wife, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Mom, Friend(s) should be treated as equals and with respect. Simple as that {[]

    Agreed :007)
Anti-feminist people have sadly managed to put a negative spin on it, but I see women reaching their full potential as a positive thing.

Several attacks. One of the attacks is near the MI6 HQ, isn't it?
  • Charmed & DangerousCharmed & Dangerous Posts: 7,358MI6 Agent
Looks from the news as though it was just one attack - nowhere near MI6 either, it was on London Bridge which is a couple of miles away.

These terrorists are such cowards, running innocent people over in a van, it is abhorrent and they won't achieve whatever aim they have by it.

This is terrible news. The more attacks happen and the more I hear governments saying "our prayers are with the victim's families" the more I think the West is behaving a little bit like towards Hitler in 1938, they called it the appeasement policy back then. I seriously think there is no peaceful resolution with ISIS, the caliphate should be destroyed as soon as possible, the current actions being held by the U.S. and other NATO nations are not enough. Sure - it will not end terrorist attacks forever but by making them weaker and destroying the place where they are training and making money will slow them down big time. All the attacks are being executed by soldiers but the brains and money are over there in the caliphate.

It's not as easy as you think.
Keep in mind, that many islamists grew up in the West, we know that some are radicalised over the net and so far, islamists have been like a monster: you cut off one head (eg Bin Laden) athoer speads out somewhere else immediately.

My thoughts are with the victims and people of London

The IS terrorist attacks in the West increase BECAUSE they are losing militarily in Iraq and Syria. They need to stay relevant to their supporters somehow.

Most radicalisation happens face to face with recruiting taking place on the street. It's far more prevalent than you'd think.

The prime minister is on the TV prattling on about last nights attack in London ,spouting out ooh how sad we are ,those jolly naughty isis boys ,and loads of other political correct rubbish ,about it being every one elses fault ,except the government .
But its not her children being blown to bits ,its not her sons or daughters or husband and wives, as long as its the ordinary man in the street being killed ,nothing will ever get done ,What we need to hear is her to say ,we know who these people are ,and next week the SAS the SBS will wipe this scum of the face of the earth .Its all meaningless words to some one who has lost a little girl in Manchester ,or knowing that they have to spend the rest of their lives caring for a child with no legs .
For gods sake grow a spine, grow some balls and eradicate this filth from our country
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

I know it's not that easy, that's why I said it will not end the attacks forever. But please note that before circa 2012 the attacks were less frequent - that's because the Al-Quade was under constant pressure from U.S. forces, the leadership had not that much money because they didn't have a whole damn "country" which would enable them not only drug trading and human trafficking but also oil extraction. The ISIS has a sh*tload of money and that's what scares me the most - look at their guns, vehicles, bombs or the video materials they post - everything is professional and the more time they have with control over a such huge region, the more advanced they will get. I know that, fortunately, the caliphate is smaller now then it was 2 years ago, but the pressure should be higher. Dealing with the caliphate may not resolve the problem but it may help to keep the attention around radicalizing - which I think happens more often over the internet than face to face. Let's face it - radicals will always be out there, but without a back up like ISIS the danger is definitely lower, me myself I would feel much safer without the whole caliphate supporting radicals in Europe by training them, teaching how to build bombs, handle assault rifles like a black-op and other stuff.

I absolutely understand your point of view Higgins and I honestly think that neither You or me are right, because there is not a truly great solution in this whole situation.

Apparently political campaigning has been suspended... again... and the election is on Thursday. With the polls (yes, I know they're not to be trusted but the politicians watch them like a dog watching a tin being opened) increasingly showing the Tory lead evaporating and Labour rising, I'm wondering if May will call a delay... That would be a very cynical way of using tragedy for political advantage, of course....
  • CoolHandBondCoolHandBond Mactan IslandPosts: 6,030MI6 Agent
I doubt the election will be postponed. With Labour's softly softly approach and Corbyn's alliance with terror groups this has played directly into the Conservative's hands (not that they have the guts to do anything worthwhile about terror either) but they do have the general consensus of being the party of law and order.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Yep, the prime minister says it is dreadful and the Mayor is furious. Candles will be lit tonight and ISIS will be celebrating and laughing at the ineptitude of the response.
