Good episode last night--sort of a return to the old creepy days of the 1960s and '70s.  As for the rumored replacement. . .please, no: one thing I've liked about Capaldi is the fact he isn't a young dreamboat.  Let's keep the Doctor a dotty old eccentric.

He is going to be younger for this next regeneration I'm afraid.  Akin to Tenant.  Expect to see the following 'two' regenerations after that being 'guest' type actors doing a stint for one season each before the BBC closes its doors on NuWho for the time being.

Re: The return of Doctor Who (SPOILERS)

It's not David Tennant again is it? After all, the Master seems to be a returning actor if the "coming soon" clip was anything to go by...

I'm not doubting your info (you seem very reliable), but how does it tie into Chibnall's five-year plan? So basically the next actor will do three years in the role, then the two guest stars one series each? That is a really weird plan, but I'm excited to see it play out!

Re: The return of Doctor Who (SPOILERS)

We're on U.K. Holiday just 1 day in Cardiff and wife and son caught up with Peter Capaldi apparently incredibly friendly he was surrounded by fans who kept hugging him demanding photos. My wife and son just happened to be there and they asked my son whether he'd like a photo and whether he'd like antything signed ( we'd been shopping  at dr who experience so got a poster signed. I love Craig as Bond but I can't see him doing this) I missed out as my daughter had demanded to go shopping

Massively underwhelmed by this announcement -it was obviously going to be a female Doctor but why such a meh actress?

I think the Who community  is about to get their own "Craig war"  ...... I for one will give her
a chance, perhaps a bit of a shake up will keep it running for years more ?

Re: The return of Doctor Who (SPOILERS)

I could've sworn they'd already announced a man in the role, from that show Carribean murders or something. Seems I was mistaken. Interesting move.

Seems a bit of a strange choice to me. I was hoping for Phoebe what's her face from Fleabag. I think Capaldi is great, but has been squandered by poor writing. Not much of a'Whovian' so not overly invested. I think like Bond it may have benefitted  from a little break and a bit of a lie down.

I think many had thought Kris Marshall was going to be the next Dr.

Yes, I thought he'd been announced already, in fact.

Re: The return of Doctor Who (SPOILERS)

Havent watched since Tennant but that announcement is really underwhelming. I'll get accused of sexism here but for me the Doctor should always be a man. If they wanted a strong female influence to broaden the appeal they should have brought back The Rani IMO. She had her own Tardis and would be a thorn in The Doctors side much like a female Master. Guess I cant complain though considering I havent tuned in, in years.

My Twitter feed and Facebook page are on fire.  Having been through the Craig Wars--and having at first been on the wrong side--I'm holding fire until I see the whites of her eyes. . .or see how she handles the TARDIS.

Its all about the story and how they do it.
Either they have the story, the characterisation and the ideas to make it work, and something fresh (I love Capaldi but Moffat's writing was tiring and it really needed some new energy).
Or it will be a PC gimmick to tick boxes and be "progressive".
I'm optimistic, and I think that done well, Whitaker could be the best Doctor, up there with Tom Baker and David Tennant.

Re: The return of Doctor Who (SPOILERS)

Without wanting to appear sexist or anything else I may be accused of? I think the BBC has taken political correctness too far on this. In a recent episode we had Pearl, a black lesbian assistant (and a darn fine actress), a short, bald gay bloke (no comment) and an actress of smaller stature so with a female Doc Whooey I guess the BBC have ticked all the PC boxes? What next?....Nice DALEKS!  ajb007/insane

Re: The return of Doctor Who (SPOILERS)

Doctor Who is now officially a joke...Matt Smith regenerates into Capaldi, we get "I've got new kidneys"...Capaldi regenerates into Jodie Whatserface, we get "I've got new mammaries!!"

Goodbye Who2, it was fun while it lasted...

Re: The return of Doctor Who (SPOILERS)

I used to know a ladyfriend who fancied herself a Wiccan
she argued the number 13 was inherently symbolic of womankind and that the superstition against the number is part of the millennia's old patriarchal conspiracy to wrest power from the wise old medicine women
why? because the average menstrual cycle is 28 days, therefor there are 13 periods per year, as opposed to 12.3 lunar cycles
so, going by that symbolic logic, it is entirely appropriate the thirteenth doctor be a woman (though the lengths of years and menstrual cycles may be different on Gallifrey)

problem with that theory, as usual, is Stephen Moffatt - he retconned the previously unmentioned War Doctor in between McGann and Eccleston's incarnations (because Eccleston resents his time on the show and wouldn't come back for an anniversary episode?) and also claimed Tennant regrowing a new arm in one episode counts as a regeneration, therefor the new thirteenth doctor is actually the fifteenth
