Just finished watching TWINE on Blu-ray. It's a surprisingly quotable film. I realized I have more dialog memorized from this one than any other Bond film.

I was excited to see the 02 Arena in the PTS since I was just there in January for 2 nights of Black Sabbath.

Honestly, TWINE is has aged better than GE. I consider it a near perfect Bond along with TND and TSWLM.

Still have some little niggles though!!

Swiss banker is still holding his cigar after he gets up from explosion.

According to the commentary, they are wasting fresh fish in the boat chase.

Replacement for Q. Passing the torch should not occur in Bond films. It didn't work for Moneypenny in Octopussy and it certainly doesn't work here. John Cleese bumbles around and has the worst scenes in the film.

Don't exchange rates constantly shift? The GBP still equaling exactly $5 million USD several weeks later?

Bond not paying attention as parahawks collide overhead.

That one henchman Gabor reminds me a lot of Mr. Kil (Not TWINE's fault)

Bond casually points with his gun at people while talking to them.

"Caught a bullet instead of plane" is a rare misfire in the humor dept.

Bond wastes 4 seconds staring at bomb timer.

I wonder if Bond should have confronted Elektra about his suspicions.

Pipeline explosion crater looks oddly similar to the eternal flame location.

I've never swam in caviar, but I bet I could make it 1ft to the side of that tiny pool without help.

Suppose Z had shot Elektra from the floor...didn't he have a small army behind him?

Why are there fireworks going off? Oh well, this is still the best and dirtiest Bond ending since Moonraker. :)
    My current 10 favorite:

Not a "LASER" but a thermite cutting rod , and they do look like that.

In Moonraker, when Jaws is about to jump over from his Gondola, to Bond's he lunges forward a bit and the next shot shows him flying in the air to the other one. It's so poorly done it looks silly! :))

Another is in Goldfinger when Tilly Anderson's car goes off the road and the next shot is her VERY abrupt stop. Just poorly edited and looks whack.

No down bringing to the film though. Love them the way they are.

Not to mention the fact that she gets out, sees the metal on the side of the car shredded from front to back...and then she only seems slightly bothered and just makes a remark about the tyres being blown ?:)

Yes! I've noticed that too. Hahaha. She wasn't a bright Bond Girl. The sass overwhelmed her smarts.

Less of a niggle, more of a question: the scene in AVTAK with the cheque book has bothered me for some time. What exactly does Bond do? He uses his gadget to get a copy of the cheque, but hasn't this cheque already been ripped out? How does the gadget create a copy?

Watched TND last night and of course it was awesome. Easily a top 5 Bond film. Still have a few minor niggles:

    1. How do the Carvers know Bond's hotel room and cell phone number? Bond was apparently expecting company. Did Elliot actually "send" Paris to see him? Also, at the party Paris makes it very clear that she is on Elliot's side, yet still lies to cover Bond's identity as a banker.

    2. How can Bond keep a straight face when M instructs to, "Pump her for information." Roger Moore would have definitely grinned at that.

    3. The bickering on the motorbike seems manufactured. "Turn left!" "No right!" yet they continue straight.

    4. Why does Bond insist that Robinson should see the nuclear torpedoes since the jeep is obviously in the way? Was Bond not aware of the camera angle?

    5. A lot of random people from a variety of departments all seem to have similar chess nicknames. I admit they do sound cool.

    6. The timing is way off on Elliot's death. Bond says, "I have breaking news for you." but that should not have been enough to cause Elliot to turn around. Then he stands frozen way too long as the drill approaches. Instead, the drill "breaking" thru the glass would have caused Elliot to whirl around and be quickly killed by it.

I have most of the same niggles but I over-thought these and came up with these.
    1. She is on Elliot's side but she wouldn't blow his cover! I mean come on.
But she could have fabricated the worst lie ever to at least say that she tried to make it convincing.

    2. :)) :)) :)). Probably would've even raised a couple of eyebrows. I've thought of that before.

    3. Yeah. I have the same issue with that but I do like "Who's driving?".

    4. If Bond were in the film business, he would obviously be an actor, not a cameraman. Also, suspense and stuff and "Is 007 going to make it even if it's the start of the movie" clichés being checked off of "the list".

    5. Something akin to that for Bond (if he wasn't 007 and for me at least) would be a shark species like Hammerhead.
Yes, I do like "Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and, yes, that's where I got the idea from.

    6. It's still very gruesome. Although seeing none of the carnage makes us imagine it which is even more gruesome in its own, twisted way.
I love TND. Would've been very high on my list (if I had one).
Another niggle would be the bad continuity on the BMW chase and couldn't Bond kill a couple of people with that "stunt" of his?
I mean he honked the horn but still...
Love how he tries to dial down his laughter after the outcome...

Side note: the recovery of a chinese fighter in TMWGG always reminds me of the beginning of TND.
    a reasonable rate of return

In Golden Gun during the fight in the belly dancer's room, after throwing that guy on the wooden folding thing, why was Bond standing there, waiting? Was he having a time out that was broken by a champagne bottle to the head?
    a reasonable rate of return

I watched LTK last night. This has got to be the most impressive Bond film of the 80's. I don't see the Miami Vice influence so much, but rather the harder edged R rated action movie meets 007. I love the ultra violence of this film, it makes me proud to be a Bond fan. There was nothing near this gruesome in Die Hard or Lethal Weapon that I can remember.

Still had a fair share of little niggles though: :)

-Dalton lookalike in bed with Lupe.

-Killifer has a lot of nerve showing up at the wedding. I wonder if he knew Sanchez would get revenge.

-What's the difference between a fishing flies and fishing lures? I don't think Sharky gave her "lures" but I could be wrong!

-Sanchez tells Felix it's nothing personal, just business. I believe Sanchez means what he says, but I see this as being totally personal and no business.

-What did that big hunk of cow meat have to do with anything? It sort of implies the shark is going to go after the cow first until it's gone and thus tipping the scale and send Felix into the water?

-What's with the Lincoln Continental Mark VII ? Is that Bond's car? Why is Sharky driving it?

-I find it hard to believe that Sharky is scared of sharks.

-The boat crew doesn't know what a manta ray is.

-Gotta love Clive the henchman. Well liked by his co-workers and took real pride in his job. He was happy and jovial right up until Bond killed him with a spear gun.

-Bond stabbing cocaine underwater. Die Evil Drugs!!'

-Ithsamus is hard to pronounce without a lisp. What's up with a fake city in a Bond movie?

-Pam should have felt dumb for letting Bond talk down the price of her services when he clearly has so much money in that briefcase.
He practically gave the hotel staff as much money for fresh flowers as he gave Pam for flying him down there.

-Bond forgets about Pam when meeting Q.

-Now Pam doesn't want to sleep in the same room as Bond even though they already fooled around on the boat?
And then she gets all mad later at the end of the movie. Women...am I right? 8-)

    -Ninjas!!

-Maybe Pam could have mentioned her Stinger Missile/Heller plan to Bond before hand???

    - Heller, how did YOU know that? (About Bond being a former British agent)

-Bond was lucky the henchmen found the money he planted. It was a good hiding spot.

-Dario should know better than to start drama in front of the investors.
I'm curious to know what Bond's plan was, had he not been recognized. And damn that fire spread fast.

I'd like to think the raw meat was for the sharks to bite into, so that blood will go in the water. They attack wounded prey. The shark bites the meat, then bites Felix.

an isthmus (sp) is a narrow band of land closely surrounded by water on either side, linking two much larger landmasses that would otherwise be isolated. For example, Panama. Strategically a good position, for a canal or a corrupt politician. In this movie, Isthmus City is a stand-in for Panama, which was much in the news at the time. By the end of the year, Bush Sr invaded the country and deposed its leader, Manuel Noriega . The film was inspired by current events, and may have wished to not be too literal?

Of course, they weren't scared to say the name Afghanistan in the previous movie.

Continuing with more of the "gritty" 007, I watched Casino Royale last night. The overall issue for me is that while it's an excellent film, it just doesn't feel like a Bond movie to me. Sure, I see the resemblance to the Fleming novel, but I could say the same about Never Say Never Again.

Anyway these are my little niggles with CR:

    - Considering the circumstances, is this really the time to bickering about 00 status and the confusing catch 22 of becoming one?

-M sent Bond to KILL this guy for selling secrets? How bout simply arresting him? I've heard the price for selling secrets was going up, but isn't that a little high?

-Shooting someone in a chair will not knock them over backwards. I can't say I've tried it, but bullets tend to pass thru people like butter. That goes for Dirty Harry and his .44 magnum too.

-So Bond isn't issued any weapons to kill the first guy? The catch 22 again.

-Botched gunbarrell and super cheesy blood drip.

-No one in the film seems to acknowledge what an incredible athlete that free runner is. Instead he is dismissed as just another bomb maker. It was in poor taste for Bond to shoot him like that. I would have rather seen him recruited by Bond instead of just wasting all that potential. Heck, that could have been the origin story for the new Felix right there. I liked him better than Mr. Keep the Fruit.

-Why is Bond breaking into M's house?

-I don't like the idea of that "slimy bugger" Dimitrios being the original owner of the Aston Martin. That is Bond's car and should not ever belong to some random bad guy.

-The love scene with dialog "Cause then they'd be bad..but so much more interesting." Is almost as awful as the closing dialog in DAD.
    *barf*

-Okay, please explain why does Bond order room service for one? He's leaving for the Miami airport, so why would the girl stick around his hotel room and drink champagne alone?

-Bond calls an assistant in London and instructs him to call M to call the Police? Why not just dial 911 directly.

-We get more shots of the dead Texron truck driver than of dead Le Chiffre. It's in poor taste to glorify deaths of non-combatants.

-Why would "they" have any reason to torture and kill Dimitrios' wife? As far as I can figure the only person she was in danger of was Dimitrios himself and Bond took care of him personally. I hate to see a fine-ass become a casualty.

-What's with the Moneypenny reference? I wonder how many fans were initially confused in this reboot film thinking that Vesper was the new Moneypenny. This isn't Skyfall that's not Naomi Harris.

-After dinner on the train, Vesper wanders off. Then in the very next scene they are together again getting into a car. Where did she go inbetween?

-What's the point of Bond using the alias Beech in this film? Everyone from the hotel receptionist to the main villain is aware that he is using both names.

    - I realize there needs to be some action mixed in with the all the card playing. Why do the two dudes from Uganda start a fight with Bond? As far as I can tell their only issue is with Le Chiffre and their money.

-Was it Le Chiffre's girlfriend who put the poison in Bond's drink? I'm not clear on why they would be trying to kill him. Le Chiffre was taking him to the cleaners at the point in the game.

-After all that Texas Hold 'Em it was so refreshing to hop in the Aston Martin and head out on the open road, however the car chase was way too short.

-I'm confused about who's side Mathis is actually on. Please pick one or the other. He still tries to be Bond's friend after betraying him.

    - Vesper is suddenly in tears and saying how Bond is more of a man etc just because he choose her name for the password???

    - Falling off the bed! Oh young love. They should have added one of Roger Moore's "Ohhhg!" sound bites. :))

-Why didn't Bond transfer the money to the treasury like ASAP? He acted surprised when M called, but how long had he been sitting on it up until that point?

-Whole new set of bad guys including eye patch in final 5 minutes. And man, they sure have some serious firepower for what was supposed to be a simple errand of Vesper transferring money to a bank account. They're just walking around Venice with silenced machine guns and nail guns?

Overall, I'd give CR an 8/10 as an action/drama but only 5/10 as a Bond film. Naturally, I'm going to follow it up with QoS.

When Bond arrives in Egypt he visits his old university friend for information.

He tells Bond that he will eventually be dealing with Max Kalba but must first contact Fekkesh.

I don't get why Bond can't just go straight to Kalba in this case.

    Here goes.
-Considering the circumstances, exposition and his need to find out about what was Bond's deal were on the top of N+P priorities.
-Maybe he ate M's leftover casserole and she was pretty sour about it but then he went out and sold secrets...which in turn cut this dog's days rather short. Also, that will be the same woman who ordered Moneypenny to shoot him instead of letting Bond finish the job himself. I don't think she really gives that much thought to some of the things she does and acts on impulse.
At the end of the day, she got a new 00 and ended up tying a loose end.
-I wouldn't go bango on that one.
-He had the PPK. What were you expecting? Piano wire and a gag?
    -Opinion.
-Nice idea actually but he killed innocent workers and bystanders. While Bond isn't exactly a saint ( :v ), you don't see him bombing around killing whoever may be on his path.
-To use the reverse tracking equipment, while, admittedly, he could've just searched the phone number online to find out where it's registered but I can't remember if it was unknown or not.
-As cheesy as "it's not a motorcycle, it's a chopper.". It's like treating her like a child but the nature of their discussion wasn't supposed to be given much thought and most of Bond's blood was rushing to an organ other than his brain.
-That's pretty stupid. Maybe it's complimentary to the man who'd torture and kill her?
-See the African rundown. It's supposed to show how much they do not care about innocents.
-...and on top of that she knew nothing about him other than him "being bad". A shame, really. But death has no sweethearts and all that.
-Maybe he's making a sly reference to a character we haven't met yet. Nice moment, bad context.
-Obviously, to break into Bond's room with measuring tape to order his DJ. Seriously though, they don't share rooms. It was probably a "she'll contact you first" or a meeting or something. And they don't share rooms. Her family is strict Roman catholic.
-He has trouble with female authority and cover names and he doesn't care about either.
-Wearing a hearing aid or a mic is reason enough. Maybe he got jealous of him kissing Vesper or he recognised his description as the killer of the hired goon but I don't think those two mix.
-You can't be too careful in Montenegro these days and I think Bond was doing alright at the game. A last ditch effort.
-Yeah, even I mentioned that in my review.
    -Didn't Quantum solve that?
    - :))
-He did transfer it but M might've wanted to talk to him about his resignation, hence why he wasn't that surprised.
-Wish they'd kept the scene at the hotel with the man with the straw hat. It'd at least made us notice him more.
    a reasonable rate of return
