    You
I was lucky enough to have be alerted to it on eBay by an ajber. Loving it!

    Hi
Looks that good and it does look the perfect size, starting to wish I'd bought it myself :)
    Ross

    You saying I'm fat!!
48 may have been too small for you, Ross. Looks perfect for Blair.

An update and a comparison: I sold my replica Layer Cake to another member.

I recently took a chance and purchased a size 50 Dunhill "Almost Layer Cake" jacket.

    IMG_20170808_122535470_HDR_front.jpg

The jacket is overall very nice, but I won't be keeping it. The body and shoulders fit fine, with a chest of 22.5 inches and shoulders of 19.5 inches, but the sleeves are too short for me at only 24 inches.

    IMG_20170808__front_zipped.jpg

However, while I have both Dunhills I thought I would post some comparison pictures. In all comparison pictures the Layer Cake is on the left.

The most obvious difference is that the Sister jacket is black without chest and sleeve stitching while the Layer Cake is chocolate brown. In terms of feel and weight the jackets are incredibly similar. The sister jacket's lambskin is as soft and light weight as the Layer Cake, as would be expected.

    IMG_20170808_121416447_color_compare.jpg

The differences are in the details.

The interiors are similar in terms of construction, although the colors of the suede interior are very different.

    IMG_20170808_121315920_lining_color_tags.jpg

The LC is an Oxblood, while the sister jacket is definitely a wine color with a very purple-ish hue. Unlike the Layer Cake, the color of the interior does not extend to the front zipper. I actually prefer the outside color extending into the interior.

    IMG_20170808_inside_lining.jpg

The Layer Cake's under collar is plain while the other has a contrasting under collar that matches the jacket interior.

    IMG_20170808_under_collar.jpg

The sleeves and pockets are also different. The sister jacket has zippered sleeves and the pocket border isn't as polished, in my view, than the thin border of the Layer Cake.

    IMG_20170808_121539408_sleeve_detail.jpg

    IMG_20170808_121432921_pocket_detail.jpg

The leather zipper pulls aren't nearly as nice as the metal pull of my Layer Cake, but many LC jackets have a double zipper with the leather pulls. Both jackets have Riri zippers. The front zipper is size M6 on both, and the sleeve zippers of the black jacket are smaller, size M4.

On a side note, just finished watching this movie for the first time. This thread inspired me. Quite good film and the scene where he is playing the gun foreshadows Bond in a spectacular way.

An undisputed masterpiece of a movie. Craig's best non-Bond film.

Now I know this is getting very derailed, however I did feel like mentioning that I was on location for several of the scenes for Cowboys and Aliens. I was volunteering for a summer camp for troubled kids and we had to hold off on going to a couple areas around the camp site because they were filming the movie.

    Best,

Really interesting to see the sister jacket to the dunhill layer cake Steve - can't believe you have two very similar!

I am going to sell mine - I'll post in the correct part of the forum once I have chance to take photos etc.. I've decided the style is not to my taste and it would be better with someone who appreciated it and wore it.

Are you referring to the actual Dunhill, which has European sizing or a replica?

There have only been 5 real Dunhill Layer Cake jackets to show up for sale in the last 7 years.

You can get replicas from Wested and Soul Revolver.

I need an unaltered 52. So far, there are none in the wild. Grant's was cut down to a 48, and Peregrine Carruthers had the sleeves shortened on his.

Damn..very rare. What did it last sell for? I'm not in the market for one but just curious. Being Dunhill on its own, no movie connections, should have the price very high.

Actual Dunhill. I'm not that impressed with the replicas that I've seen.

There's a genuine Dunhill Layercake jacket 52 on EBay right now, item 252179822377

Shocked to have seen two genuine Dunhill Layer Cake jackets on eBay at once. I bought the size 54 and it arrived today. It is gorgeous. I'll post some pics later.

In the meantime, Ross, how are the alterations on your 58 going?

Ross, CRB, perhaps you can help. I tried registering on Filmjackets.com almost three months ago and never got a confirmation from Rick. I sent him a follow up email and never got a reply.

I wish I could help, but the registrations part is down to Rick alone, I can't help there. I know Rick has been in some sort of trouble for 1.5 years now, he rarely turns up to the forum, but it's a shame that registrations slip away too as the forum needs new members to keep alive. I can always post your photos for you, but it would be nice to have your own membership. Where did you find the 54 - was it Kittlemeiers ? Dare I ask how much you paid ?

For those interested, filmjackets.com is now accepting new members, I'm now able to approve new members myself. We welcome the Bond community, but don't forgot we only really talk about jackets really ...

I kinda figured that out lol.

Do they sell replica jackets or do they just literally discuss jackets? I visited but couldn't quite figure out what the deal was.

Both - it's what you make it. You're free to discuss anything really, but if you start talking about the creation of the universe or the internal workings of the combustion engine, you'll probably going to find not many people add to the thread :)

We've discussed, bought and sold many Bond jackets over the years. But for items outside jackets (and sometimes other clothing) this forum is naturally a better place to discuss the finer details of Bond props etc. I daresay that some filmjackets.com members may have been interested in the recent Tom Ford re-run of the Quantum Harrington for example but weren't aware of it.

Simon did post about the QoS project, CRB. I wonder if anyone there ended up joining.

ED, I'll try to elaborate a bit on what CRB said. There are threads on FJ about identifying jackets from film and television, as well as jackets in general from certain brands such as Belstaff and Matchless.

A moderator has to start a thread in the film or television jacket forum (hence why there is a bit of overlap in the Miscellaneous Jackets forum where members can start a topic) so a thread may encompass jacket identification, acquisition, and various replicas.

There are a couple members who make replica jackets.

For the Bond/DC fan I'd recommend the discussion of the TND leather coat from the pre-title sequence and the Layer Cake jacket discussion. It was the latter that positively identified the jacket as a Dunhill (although Dunhill as a possible maker was first broached on Styleforum quite a bit earlier).

Well here is mine finally after alteration, I would have loved to have had the shoulder brought in but couldn’t due to the arm length :)

    Looks great, Ross. Glad you finally got it all sorted. -{

After four jackets turning up in 2015 it's been all quiet on the Layer Cake front with none turning up, although a couple of the Dunhill sister jackets did appear.

Agreed, looks really good on you.

With filmjackets.com gone this thread is basically the go to source for information on this jacket.

Therefore, I wanted to say that at least one more Dunhill Layer Cake jacket has appeared in the wild.

Kittlemeier, a member here, has managed to purchase a size 52 from a UK seller on Depop. He's given me permission to announce his purchase.

Here are some pics from the listing.

Not the screen accurate zipper, but the jacket looks to be in pretty good condition.

There may also have been another jacket to appear. An ebay seller in Los Angeles mentioned recently picking up an authentic Dunhill. Whether it is one that had previously appeared is not known. I did try to reach out for more information but haven't heard anything back.
