How would Bond have fared in a fight with MayDay?

Realistically could Bond have beaten May Day in a showdown between the two? You could imagine Daniel Craig's Bond probably winning, but for Moore at this particular time, it would take some pulling off don't you think? Do fans think they deliberately shied away from a showdown because of the difficulty in Bond overpowering her or do fans like the way it was written with May Day helping Bond and turning good against Zorin?

Bond is very rarely second best in a punch up (although Hinx got the better of him).

He would have been able to sort May Day out, but why fight when there are so many other more pleasurable things to do..? :007)

There are a number of henchmen that Bond could only defeat by outsmarting them. Odd Job and Jaws were never defeated by force.

Very true, he certainly uses his wits as much as brute force. The Hinx example is a good one of when he was fairly and squarely (broadly speaking) done over (excluding the final outcome which was only following assistance from Madeleine).

Really hope Hinx makes a return..

If the film makers had Roger Moore's Bond fight MayDay, he would have likely had to out smart her. Given her physical strength, I would imagine Bond would have to trick her into doing something that would give him the edge in the fight. Like the fights with Odd Job and Jaws, going at MayDay head on would result in Bond getting thrown around and beaten up.

Mayday would whoop Roger Moore's Bond in a straight up brawl. As others noted he would need to defeat her in a non-physical way.

I'm guessing given Mayday's great strength, the Good Doctor Mortimer with his steroids etc, helped out.

Rog's Bond would have won. He would have knocked her unconscious with his walking stick, the immobilised her with his zimmer frame, and then ran over her with his mobility scooter. Job done.

The formidable factor in the movie is flawed. It was implied that Bond vs. May Day and Zorin was up against near-super humans. By all accounts, Bond should have been in a great disadvantage, similar with how in the movie Blade Runner, Deckard seriously struggles against each of the 4 replicants he fights, who were superior to him in strength and agility.

Early on in the movie as the above image shows May Day's strength was established, like how Odd Job's was by his crushing of a golf ball. Then in sequence, Zorin is able to overpower May Day, which is meant to build up Zorin's own formidability, but we later see in the Bond and Zorin showdown, that the two aren't that mismatched in the same way how Bond and Odd Job were in their own fight. The logical step would have been to leave out the May Day and Zorin sparring/love sequence and maybe add a scene in the mine where Bond and May Day has an actual fight more serious than the Eiffel Tower chase sequence, at least right before she “turns” to his side. Then again, Zorin was tipped off by his x-ray/data-base/computer in his office that Bond was extremely dangerous, so at least that should have been somehow demonstrated in an anticipated hand-to-hand combat of epic proportions between May Day or Zorin.

I think seeing a 57yr old Roger overpowering either of them would have looked ridiculous. It looks far fetched against normal henchman but against MayDay and Zorin would have been a step too far

You know, I think that Roger's Bond is meant to look overpowered by the bad guys of the movie (Zorin and MayDay).
From a physical and intellectual standpoint (not including the pre-titles), he was very sloppy on many spots throughout the movie. The ones I remember are...
...missing at least twice at the Eiffel tower and going to an immensely public area to have dinner with the contact.
(..."Is that it?". I mean, sure, it was meant for exposition but a comment on the stables would've been Moore than sufficient.)
    ...getting caught by Mortner.
..."...flycasting". Not smooth at all. He didn't even try to hide it. Why go to the whole trouble of getting a cover if you're gonna *snap* give it away?
...putting the vial at the wrong place. The most obvious one.
...not making sure that there was enough tape in the player for Zorin's goons.
...letting Tibbett go into town to actually wash the car. A better excuse, needed perhaps?

I know that most of these were done on purpose to advance the plot and Bond (like anyone) makes mistakes but this is just unacceptable.

In CR Bond also dispenced with a cover, and it was Tibbet who put the
Vial in the wrong place. Most thrillers have people meeting in pubkic places
" Bourne " for example. Washing the car was an obvious joke and part of the
"Master v Servant " role play. Just my two cents, I still enjoy it and actually
think Roger gave his best performance as Bond in his last three films.

The "problems" that I mentioned did not lie in Moore but rather in the movie's script.
I still very much enjoy the movie, I think that it brushes shoulders with Roger's best Bonds but these were just an epiphany that I had while watching the movie recently.

Maybe Tibbett washed the car because he knew he was being followed and wanted to check up on it.

Regardless of how he looked, we were meant to suspend our disbelief with the operating assumption was that Bond was a dangerous operator to reckon with, as implied by Zorin's computer per my earlier post.

As Dirty Punker posted, these glaring issues were the result of poor writing and as many would agree, it was also a miscast RM. It was a nice to touch having Patrick Macnee because of him being a fan favorite, but being coupled with RM they made the 1st act look like a buddy movie with a secret agent partnership from an earlier time coming out of retirement for one last job...and getting them together with Q, M and Moneypenny in the Ascot scene didn't help dispel that impression.

Maybe the issue of casting an ageing RM because of his box-office draw could have been handled better, like addressing the issue in an franker manner in that Bond and his organization for the record, were getting on in years and that they needed to overcome their own limitations as they faced the new threats of technologically advanced villany, which in fact was what Zorin and Mayday represented. That premise worked for Rocky 4 that same year :)) Of course, the more elegant solution was casting a new Bond much earlier though that effort came with its own problems. Bringing back RM was desirous for EON and the studio as the easiest solution and the more financially lucrative option, so obviously they were more than willing to live with the movie's artistic shortcomings.
