Bond arrives Madeleine's clinic - a good look?

So I was watching Spectre again this evening. Very stylish on so many levels - and hell, I've laid down good money for many of the items. But...

After Mr White has made his choice and Bond heads for Ms Madeleine's clinic, there is a short shot of him viewing the clinic whilst still in the plane.

The next shot shows him walking up a snowy incline, presumably out of the plane and heading for the clinic.

In the 'walking' shot, he has big boots on and a bobble hat worn at a jaunty, pointy-up angle.

I gotta be honest, I saw that tonight and all I could think of was...

James Bond looks like a Smurf!!

Sorry I can't do the screencap thing, but it just struck me that surely that is not a look that any ajb007'ers aspire to??

Or is it??

The Swiss Army TF pants are a little odd (even to most DC fans)...
The Danners are a cracking boot tho
And the TF jacket (moncler copy) is a very usable and stylish piece...
So I think individually most pieces are great, just the pants were a nono for me

It's not my favorite look simply because I find it a little "costume-y". Honestly, dressing like the fashion industry's interpretation of a Swiss mountain guide when you're only expecting a short walk through the cold from a heated plane to a luxury clinic does seem to be overkill.

It was okay IMO, I felt the pants were a bit odd. However I didnt really notice them in the film, only in photos after the fact.

Felt it looked a bit costume like @canoe2 stated. Only time in DC era I felt that way.

My feelings exactly. I am a big fan of Danners (provider of boots to the US military) so I have no problem with those, and the style makes sense since he wasn't on the mountain to ski. What else would you wear?

The jacket is actually a favorite of mine. I own both the Moncler original and the Royale V3 and find them useful — either on their own or as layering pieces — in the incredibly cold place where I happen to live.

It's the pants, in my opinion, that really push the outfit into costume territory. Combined with the hat, combined with the glacier glasses. It's all just too much.

Compared with the Altausee outfit, it just looks....weird. I think future viewers will look at it the way we look at Connery's terrycloth romper.

I thought the look was OK in context of the location. It had a slight military and alpine air too it especially with those trousers (might have made more sense had there been some skiing involved). What erked me was the way he wore his hat. Most military would wear it as a skull cap (i.e. Pulled further down and rolled up at the bottom) rather than look like a Smurf. As someone who served in the SBS he would have been more than aware of that if he had been on Ops.

Sometimes it's not what you wear just more how you wear it.

This is true,
I personally feel that the Altausse and solden outfits were the wrong way round. Bond looks somewhat out of place in the clinic next to Swann with her trouser suit etc, maybe it's purely the mountain location of the clinic which prompted the look?

I like it because it's unique and not simply another TF suit or overcoat. Sure the walk to the clinic was short, but Bond must have expected that there might be some trouble coming up. Unfortunately there was no skiing involved but a lot of fighting, driving, shooting and flying through mountainous terrain. He's a military man and the style reflected that although possibly in a too obvious way. I agree about the hat though. Rolled up or another hat would have made it less smurf-like

One of the aspects of the Bond films that I loved when I was younger is that they sometimes seemed to exist in this slightly "other" world...more classy, more classic, and more elegant than the world in which we live. Not just in the real world wish fulfilment locations such as The One and Only in CR, but in locations that seem like they could only exist in film. The last example I can think of is in Goldeneye where a man can wear a cravat while out for an afternoon drive against a beautiful woman in a Ferrari, and then meet her in the casino in Monte Carlo that evening.

(I suppose that there may be people for whom that's still a real world experience in 2017, but for most of us I assume not)

One of the things that I liked about the outfit when visiting the clinic was how it harkened back to elegant, vintage clothes for that type of location. Not that the outfit in its entirety looked like it came out of the past, but that it was partly inspired by it.

Having said that, I have a pair of wool vintage ski trousers very similar to the ones in the film. Most people seem to not really take notice of them, when I wear them they don't look TOO different than what some people wear. No one has asked me about them or made disparaging comments about them (and friends of mine are open enough that they would!). However, I've had some very attractive, stylish women be extremely impressed by them. Were someone to dress in an entire outfit from the past it would look (at best) affected, but a piece or two can certainly add interest.

All to say I didn't mind the outfit at all.

It's not my favorite look but if you live in a cold climate you're also used to the fact that certain times of year you dress more for function than fashion, and that was my impression of it when I first saw it...

I thought it was over the top. I could see dressing like that if you're driving in and concerned about getting snowed-in along the way, but since he's flying directly in, it's unnecessary for the scene.

I have to say, I'm a big fan of the 1960s-style trousers. The boots are cool too. The rest I wouldn't care to wear, though it looks okay on Craig.

I liked the outfit. It worked for me from he first time I saw it. Even the hat was alright (both Lazenby and Moore wore hats in cold locales, and Brosnan should've been wearing one in TWINE, but it was Brosnan, so we had to have the hair).
