I didn't get everything I wanted but I got what I came for. (It was the BBC team overhearing me say that which sparked the interview.)
Also ALL of the deacs in that auction are illegal. Looking at potential prison time for selling them at the old spec. No mention of the VCR Act either to bidders on the stunt guns.
Would the auction house not insist on the deacs being at current deac spec? I thought even handling them was an offence in a sales chain?
This is true, they have to deactivate them before offering them for sale or passing to another party even as a gift. They haven't. So in effect, both the original owner and the auction house have already broken the law. In light of the way these things are looked upon in recent times, I wouldn't like to be in their shoes.
When the first of the guns came on the block, the auctioneer made an announcement about having received numerous eMails declaring the listings illegal but noted that Aston's had checked with West Midlands police who gave them the all clear.
Now, whether that's sufficient, I can't say but if there were an issue, that seems like something they could fall back on.
BTW, my interest in guns is pretty minimal (Ourumov's Makarov caught my eye but not enough to bid on it) so I didn't look at all of them but I did observe several of them had deactivation documents attached; again, no idea if they represented current code but they were there.
Here's my overall take on this: There are any number of auction houses now flogging Bond memorabilia and with very few exceptions, absolutely every one of them does a pretty sh*te job of it on some level. Should one or more of us be called in to consult? Yup. Ever gonna happen? Nine times out of ten, no.
During the preview I myself went to the cataloger and advised of an item I am confident is fake. He basically challenged me on that conclusion. I won't go into detail but it was pretty clear he was having none of it; it was his expertise against mine and as a representative of the auction house, guess who was gonna win?

Maybe I'm mistaken but I didn't take any of the "premiere pack" listings to mean that the items being presented were literally all originally together in any one swag bag but were examples of goods given out at premieres and gathered into a "kit" by Aston's.

I haven't seen the actual piece yet but I'm told what 3 sec. quote they used out of a 10 min. interview.

Even if they had the West Midlands Police blessing, this is UK LAW which now sets a precedent for future sales. I'm sure the Home Office may have something to say about this because said regulations were set by the EU and the UK has to abide by those new regulations while it is still a part of said European body!
Donkey just had Maud Adams' and Famke Janssen's Astra pistol deactivated and to abide by the new regs the weapon which is nickel plated had its barrel spot welded to the top of the ejection port. This was done so the pistol could not be field stripped but it also stops the slide from being racked ....wish I lived in the West Midlands!

From dealing with different houses, I find Prop Store is the most stringent/exacting on posting authentic prop items. Does this match the experience of others?
