And if it's Nolan directing, then it will be WB distributing.
It's odd that a distributor hasn't be announced by this point (approximately 12 months before shooting will start) unless there's a really good reason to withhold that information. Usually actors/directors won't sign on unless they're sure there's sufficient financial backing for a movie.

I agree that it is a bit odd that a distributor has not yet been named but Craig officially returning may have changed the stakes in negotiations. With regard to actors/directors not signing on unless they are sure there's sufficient financial backing for a movie, Bond is probably an exception....it's not really a matter of getting the financial backing, just who will be the third partner. I believe that there is an agreement at least in principal with a director (I don't believe Craig would have signed on if there wasn't).
Relative to Nolan's involvement with Bond, IMO Nolan would more than likely start fresh with a new Bond actor but one never knows.

If Craig doesn't know who the director is because a director hasn't been selected, then it means he's welling to risk another Spectre cluster screw up, and he's just doing Bond 25 for the dough. If he knows who the director is and it's somebody like Villenueve, then it means that he's doing it for the dough because when push comes to shove, Villenueve will lose out to the bean counters the same way Mendes (who has more of a track record) did. That is, with somebody like Villenueve, Craig has no idea what the final script will look like.

The only director who is interested in doing Bond 25 and who could possibly have final script approval is Nolan.

If the director is somebody other than Nolan and Bond 25 turns out to be another Spectre, Craig will have only himself to blame.

And since the third partner will need to come up with at least $250 million to get Bond 25 produced and marketed, if I were a director or actor I wouldn't make a commitment to Bond 25 until the deal is done.

Sorry to break it to you, but Purvis and and Wade have already been hired to write Bond 25. I know you're talking about the final script, but the script they start with also matters. If a director has already been selected, it would not have been Nolan because Nolan would not be starting with a Purvis and Wade script.

Also, while Nolan has expressed interest in doing a Bond film, it really sounded like he had no interest in doing Bond 25. He said that he doesn't think he is needed now and that he would have to be needed.

On the other hand, if they don't have a director yet and Nolan comes on board, I'm sure Purvis and Wade could be fired with their ideas scrapped. I don't picture Nolan revising a Purvis and Wade script.

I don't think Mendes was anymore qualified for Bond then Villeneuve would be, besides having worked with Craig before. If anything Denis is probably in a better positon to tackle a big budget franchise film like Bond after helming Blade Runner 2049.

Hey, even I know that P&W were supposed to produce a Bond script by last March.

That was probably part of the deal they struck when they agreed to do the re-write of Spectre.

I hope it ends up in EON's library of unproduced Bond scripts, which I am sure is enormous and probably contains any number of other P&W scripts.

As for Nolan, I'm sure we'll know within six months if he's doing Bond 25 or something else as he puts out a film every 2 to 21/2 years, which means he'll need to start filming his next project in the latter half of 2018 at the latest.

Absolutely, the whole angst ridden bond has become a bit passe these days, everyone including dc and marvel are over doing that side of things.

    Bringing Bellucci back wouldn't necessarily be like dredging up the past again. She could just be someone who Bond has maintained a relationship with....friends with benefits if you will. Bellucci is just such a force of nature that any excuse to put her back up on the screen in a Bond film should be exploited. :D :x -{

Disapointing to many, but we know he had many projects. He is interested in making a Bond movie, so hopefully he can make one in the future.

Not surprising since he said Dune is the "project of his life". Even though he seemed really excited about the prospect of working with Craig and directing a Bond film, it expectedly wasn't enticing enough to put Dune on the backburner for.

That's a valid point, but CR is such a great film it would be interesting to see Campbell's take on Bond at this point of Bond's life.

Campbell can’t because is already shooting a film with Pierce Brosnan next year in Venice. Confirmed by Pierce himself on his insta page.

Also, Campbell said he would only come back if they want him to restart the franchise as he did with Daniel and Pierce. So more likely we would see him in the fowllow up movie when they cast a new Bond.

But, then you have the problem that she is in it for five minutes, which was the criticism of Spectre. Her character, Lucia Sciarra, was this estranged wife of a Spectre assassin, I can't see that character justifiably coming back unless it's another Spectre based plot and a lot of people on this forum don't seem to want that. But, $880 million has probably convinced the studio otherwise. I think it's too soon to talk about a Maud Adams situation with her returning as a different character. Three of DC's Bond films have been direct sequels, one admittedly, retcon'd into one, Skyfall, so I can't see his 5th film being anything other than a sequel to Spectre. $880 million...

And the Belluci rumour originated from pure UK tabloids BS, so....
