It would be nice to broaden our horizons and more people post about their own watches, whatever they have. I guess us omega guys just post more at the moment. Perhaps Higgins could tell us about his GS in more detail, maybe some movement details?

I suppose that came across as a knock on the Omegas, although that’s not how it was intended. One must expect a certain quantity of Seamasters and Subs around these parts given Bond’s preferences!

Apparently, DC is a big fan of the watch and participated to the design of the Spectre SM.

Yeah we all went an bought black leather straps for our SM300’s after the SPECTRE launch. :D

Edit look cool on leather for the vintage look see my original post above

Yes by all accounts he was given his 1968 SM300 by omega 1968 being his birth year, and dc has been quoted as saying the SM300 master coax used for bond was his idea.
Interesting! I have a watchco parts supplied sm300 that was assembled in the US. I use it a lot. Nice watch. {[]

If I remember rightly with Watchco not all parts are new mainly just the ones you see dial, case hands etc. They use internal calibres from other Omega doner watches (but of the style used in original, bit like taking the 8500 calibre from an AT and putting it in a 8500 PO watch case).

For example the 565 calibre I have inside mine may not have originated in a SM300 but could have been in a different Omega style watch (DeVille etc). All they do is marry it to the new SM300 parts. Some would class this as a franken in the watch fraternity but others just see this a recycling and a modern take on a very historic watch.

Each to their own, I love mine as see it as latter and really do not care where it originated.

    Cheers :007)

I'm of a similar opinion, if you made a an Aston Martin out of all Aston oem parts and fitted a correct engine from an older car it's still an Aston right!

Absolutely my father in law knows of someone who it refurbishing a DB5, some parts are no longer available but Jaguars of the day used the same parts. If he fits these ultimately it’s still an Aston Martin DB5 who the hell cates if some parts are not original, if it gets a classic back on the road.

Posted this as a joke to a watch group. Wrote, "my watch next to my two favorite pieces of jewelry."

I like luxury watches as much as the next guy but I'm not going to fool myself into slamming the idea into my head that they are tools. They are luxury items that can be used as tools, not the other way around (at least in modern times).

I know I'm stirring a pot but hard to keep a straight face calling them tool watches when my $38 G-Shock keeps better time, is more durable, more than enough water resistant, easier to read, and has several more functions. It's certainly not as beautiful though but I actually like the aesthetic. To quote my mom when she saw me wearing it though, "it looks like a kid's watch."

I tend to think my Omegas are beautiful pieces of art and history on my wrist that I enjoy using the classic tool aspects of them. Lots of romanticism involved I guess.

Everything is oem, the cases have a different number 1660324 I think. And the moments are not necessarily from an SM300 but could be from cosmo, Geneva etc. At one point watchco appeared on the omega vintage database, not sure if they still do?
These watchco watches will stop soon if they havnt already since the swatch group will no longer provide parts to third parties.

You are right in what you say but i would say it’s down to the owners perspective. I love my ‘Luxury’ watches and care for them but I also use them sometimes hard. For example I have taken my 2500 PO on Ops (military) and worn it daily to then return home put it in for service and get it back like new. I also wear at the gym etc.

I know others who wear them diving (P.O.) and flying (Speedy) without fear so they sit in both luxury and tool bracket depending on how you use them (also have a Bond SMP from late 90’s been with me for years and on most of my travels).

I do also own GShock, Luminox and CWC but like to spread the load in these later years. What I would say is a watch becomes Luxury rather than Tool if you worry about the price paid and never actually use in a tool watch situation maybe for fear of damaging, but hey that’s what servicing is for :D

I'm not sure the g shock would cope with space travel like the Speedies did. Ive worn my po diving, skiing, I wore various omegas while piloting boats. The ceramic bezels are tough as are the rest of the watches materials, and now with silicon components! My po 2500 took a fall from a high balcony and suffers only a couple of chips to the bezel.

You can definitely still use them as tools. I'm more careful with my Speedy but I've worn my PO to the gym (on rubber). Still, my G-Shock is way better for the gym than my PO.

I think what I mean to say is that from a purely tool perspective these watches have been replaced. It's more a jab at people who are terrified at the idea that their purchase is any sort of luxury and they just see their Rolex, Omega, etc.. as purely a tool. Back in the day, before the 80s rebranding of tool watches into luxury watches, they certainly were tools. A Rolex would last you a lifetime and more and was your reliable sidekick. An Omega could go to the battlefield and back (or space :)) ).

The quartz crisis redefined this industry.

Not really, amongst watches used by professional divers you will find hublot, Rolex, Panerai, omega and other luxury names listed, seiko make some fantastic items also, quartz is just not preffered for many reasons, of course many have both an electronic dive watch which is almost a mini computer but always have an automatic as back up. Just because a tool watch becomes a status symbol or a luxury fashion item doesn't depreciate it's use as a tool. At one time here Land Rover defenders were trendy but they were still the best 4x4 car in the world.
A Rolex Submariner is a tough watch that if properly looked after will last a lifetime, the same can be said for other luxury brands. The price tag on a lot of luxury watches came with the amount of work needed to make them and the materials used. It's quite alarming to be up a mountain in minus 40 degrees look at your watch to find the lcd has frozen! Or the extreme temperatures have made your battery fail. Can you imagine being 80 meters down in the water and looking at your quartz dive watch to notice the battery has failed?

If you want one I'd say yes, from what I can tell, omega have now for some time stopped supplying parts, even offrei are now just running down existing stock, they only have a few vintage SM300 dials with date window amd hands left, no cases etc, so at some point if not already supply will dry up amd prices rise. One went up for sale on a forum earlier this year for 1800 gbp and sold within a couple of hours..... Such is the appeal. In fact at the moment there is an oem bezel(second hand but mint) for sale on eBay for 250gbp it's not that many years ago I paid 120gbp for a brand new one.

The combo Bond should have gone with in Shanghai it has to be the black PO 8500 with his blue Billy Reed peacoat and Black V neck Smedley and Grey Trousers and black Tetburys (not to mention black leather Dent gloves) :D

Tried stashing the PPK in the dame pocket he did, I reckon it would have dropped out doing his acrobatics :)) (well I run, jumped grabbed the door frame, enjoyed lateral travel briefly, lost grip with the gloves and landed squarely on my butt with all the grace of birthing turd - to the clatter of a PPK on the floor, ouch)

Of course no way he would have fired it with gloves and a palm sensing hand grip - oops :s

Having had the peacoat, the idea of putting anything in the hand warmer pockets is laughable. I had to make a fist to fit my entire hand in the pocket. :)) :)) :))

    I'm sure it is a Big Crown Sub that Barbara Broccoli gave him. If you look, the bezel is faded to a grey colour. -{

DC is wearing a "big crown" Rolex with a faded or "ghost" insert.
Antiquorum sold one for USD12k a few month ago.

Probably it did, I think there was some confusion when the Bond NATO of the Connery days was seen in a black and white shot which made it look black and grey (that was ultimately black, green and red). Truth is Connery’s strap wasn’t even a NATO because it was 2 piece construction anyway I digress. For years (since Goldfinger) the black grey NATO was classed as THE Bond NATO so wearing one in SPECTRE of that colour worked well and finally gave it that status (a lasting legacy for DC personally, EON and Omega allowing for an LE limited run).

    Cheers :007)
