The next Die Hard film has just been given the cringe worthy title of "McClane". I'm doubtful that Bond will be spared this terrible trend. Craig's films have shown that EON cares about following trends in film.

I think Eon will have enough sense to give B25 a decent title. If they ever did title a Bond film, JAMES or just BOND, I will emotionally prepare myself for the day when new Bond films are a thing of the past. I've pretty much already started doing so with the Craig era and long gaps between films.

Current film titles are one of the laziest trends in motion picture history (along with bland poster artwork). "McClane" is a crap title, as was "Logan", IMO and "Jason Bourne". I have yet to see those films and will probably pass on the next Die Hard. We must be living in an era where audiences are assumed to be so dense they wouldn't know what movie they were watching unless the main character's name is in the title.

I agree that "McClane" is a bad title. "Stay Hard" would've been better. :)

Honestly guys what I wrote previously is the truth. The studio DID suggest calling it BOND, JAMES BOND and EON/Danjaq were prepared to settle for THE NAME'S BOND, JAMES BOND or COMMANDER BOND as the title, quite rightly considering BOND, JAMES BOND too bland a title on its own.

The studio has a number of titles they presumably intend to use or pitch at some point, all relating to Bond terminology such as SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED/ SHAKEN & STIRRED & like someone guessed a few posts back 007/DOUBLE-O-SEVEN. EON/Danjaq initially wanted to call bond 25 THE HILDEBRAND RARITY but the studio felt it to be too obscure a title.

I would be truly unhappy if the title is "James Bond" or "Bond, James Bond". Slightly less unhappy if it's "007" though that's still very uninspired and generic when there are Fleming titles/phrases/etc still unused, and perhaps one or two of the continuation authors' ideas.
Really, the only non-Fleming film titles I think could have been improved were "Licence To Kill" ("Licence Revoked" was much better), "Die Another Day", and "Spectre". "GoldenEye" was a good idea, "Tomorrow Never Dies" while nonsensical at least sounds Flemingesque (though "Tomorrow Never Lies" would have been better), while "Skyfall" has atmosphere and is intriguing. "The World Is Not Enough" was a great title, with roots in Fleming.

Why is the 'naming a film after the main character' even a trend anyway? Why are idiots naming films these crap titles? And why are idiots following suit? It's VERY frustrating.

"Bullet up my arseshole" would be a better title than "Bond, James Bond".

    Phuyuck!

Exactly. I cant even begin to tell you all how excited and proud I was to be working on a Bond production but Danny Boyle really killed the atmosphere and things turned toxic and I'm truly deflated now. Because, I don't know, I may never get the chance to work on a Bond movie again.

If I was a gambling man I'd put money on the film being called THE NAME'S BOND, JAMES BOND (the studio felt THAT too long and decided on BOND, JAMES BOND as the title) or COMMANDER BOND.

Other than being terribly lazy, unimaginative, bland, and annoying, calling the film "Bond, James Bond" is also downright offensive and insulting to the franchise! Since 1962, Bond films have been known to all have unique titles. Please EON, do not ruin this.

I know, I agree 100%. If they go with BOND, JAMES BOND or THE NAMES BOND, JAMES BOND - the publicity and marketing team have got what would be the standard explanation for calling the movie by that title. They would put the message out there that as it would be Daniel's last Bond, it has taken the character 5 movies to affirm that he IS Bond, almost like the 5 films were his origin. It's sad of them to do that, it really is. Coz it kinda implies he WASNT Bond in Casino Royale or Skyfall YET, he is just begining to be him now after 5 movies. Sad. Just use a better title!

COMMANDER BOND I saw on a few mock/prep teaser posters and it does look spectacular in bold lettering but it wouldn't be my choice to use.

Reel it in YK. You obviously know nothing about the timelines of production let alone anything else.

In your first post you said the title WAS ‘Bond, James Bond ’ Now you’re saying it’s only been suggested. There are more holes in your tale than a two mile fishing net.

Teaser poster made before filming has begun 8-)

Is that a no.... two no's... to "Commander Bond" as the title or just a mishap of timing?

    - Every movie in production today does that, mock up a teaser poster to see what audiences like best as titles etc, that's the case here. The teaser poster I saw would be for research purposes only, I didn't mean they were gonna start putting them into cinemas starting next week

No I said it would 'likely' be called BOND, JAMES BOND, and it will. Ideally EON/Danjaq would like to use THE NAME'S BOND, JAMES BOND but are prepared to settle for BOND, JAMES BOND.

    Two questions:

Is it still true that "The Director who will replace Boyle will likely be TOM HOOPER?"

And has anybody told M. Hooper, who is about to start filming "Cats?"

I wonder if the studio referred to in this thread intending to pitch such amazing titles as SHAKEN NOT STIRRED is Universal?

After decades in the Bond business, MGM certainly know their brand and what makes a decent title. I have a hard time believing MGM, Eon, Danjaq etc all think BOND, JAMES BOND is an excellent title for a Bond film, unless they were spoofing the image for one final comedic outing.

A newbie un familiar with the process that goes into making these films like Universal might not have acquired that common sense yet.

The title JAMES BOND OF THE SECRET SERVICE was, if I recall, used or suggested by the Connery/McClory collaboration in the late 70s along with LONGITUDE 78 WEST before it became NSNA. If that was the case again now it’s still possible that it would change. Just seems unlikely they would use that poor a choice for title.

Bond, James Bond as a title got me thinking about other titles that could use lines from the Bond universe. 'pipe down 007' being an example. Also 'what a helpful chap'.
'Enjoy it while it lasts' from Goldeneye. 'The very words I live by' from the same film.
Could call it 'mr kiss kiss bang bang' from thunderball and use the unused song - it did appear on the ost of course.

'For Queen and country' is mentioned in op.

These suggestions are not meant to be taken seriously btw. :))

I've never been a conspiracy theorist in my life, but the last two posts on 007's official instagram profile were "the name's Bond, James Bond" videos. 3 Days ago from DN and yesterday from CR. It felt like normal stuff until today, when I read this post..

But unless they post more of them, it means nothing.

Edit: today's Instagram post is completely unrelated. There goes my theory...
