Would Bond wear a fitness tracker watch?

2

Re: Fitness Tracker

Considering he'd wanna be in peak physical condition should a mission come up, I don't see why he wouldn't trade his OMEGA/Rolex for a fitness tracker in the day.

An...original question though, I will admit.

"...I have the oddest feeling we will be meeting again sometime..."
-Roger Moore's James Bond. RIP.
I have a YouTube channel on all things Bond (amongst other things, coming soon™).
The name's Bond and Beyond. It's currently on hold, though.

Re: Fitness Tracker

I thought so and with all the clever things you can do with them seems a no brainer .

Re: Fitness Tracker

Bond is and should be a complex mixture of modernity and tradition. I think he would both use and slightly resent it.

That's a great argument against Bond using one!

I think that such a wrist tool would be too obvious a gadget. I'd rather see something like the 1967 Casino Royale GMT Master, which looks like an ordinary watch but is much more.

Re: Fitness Tracker

It’s something I’ve fought with for awhile now, as I own an Omega and a stainless Apple Watch (which can be much more dressy than a fitness tracker). Whenever I wear one I miss the other. I feel like yes, he would, as he certainly got a cell phone and laptop at some point. We saw Roger Moore wear Pulsar and Seiko digital watches as well.

The other thing to remember is how much of this stuff is based on deals the studio cut or the whim of a screenwriter. Bond wears an Omega because Omega pays Eon to make him. I mean take shaving - Bond has been seen using safety razors, straight razors, and an electric razor, so any shaving method is “how would Bond shave.”

Re: Fitness Tracker

Roger Moores Bond already had a smart watch in Octopussy which he used to zoom in and out of Q's busty office colleague

Re: Fitness Tracker

I don't see Bond wearing one of these. Craig's Bond certainly wouldn't - he'd likely chuck it to the side, first chance he gets.

However, it would make an amusing scene to have the tracker's alarm go off, much to Bond's dismay; then in the next shot he's at Shrublands gurning at lemon juice and herbal enemas.

Always have an escape plan. Mine is watching James Bond films.

Re: Fitness Tracker

I do not believe James Bond (certainly not the 007 from the novels) would wear such a tracker.  First of all he does not like working out. Second, fitnesstracker means that you're where abouts are visible.

Really? Is that why he starts his day with an exercise routine?

I think both points are correct. He doesn't neccessarily like it, but knows it's a necessity, part of the job and all that.

Re: Fitness Tracker

Erm, sorry but Daniel Craig's Bond practically lives with an earpiece linked to HQ in his ear. Surely that's a step ahead of a smart watch. Mind you, at least his watch doesn't make loud bleeping noises like previous Bonds.

At the end of the day, we really don’t know what in the hell JB does for an excel use routine. Fleming’s Bond started the day with excercise. Craig’s Bond tells Madeline he excercises “when I have to,” yet clearly by looking at him he excercises. As I alluded to above, whether or not Bond wears a fitness tracker would be decided on whether or not a fitness tracker company pays Eon for him too.

That's correct in terms of contemporary film making. I thought the question was about the character and whether it is consistent with what we know about him.

I think the point I’m trying to make is that for questions like this it’s hard to answer because what we know about him as a character has not only been so fluid over the years, but it’s also been formed by marketing decisions.

Fleming’s Bond... Moore’s Bond... Craig’s Bond... they are all just too different from one another to form any consistent portrait of the character. Moore’s Bond wore a Seiko digital watch, other Bond’s never would. Fleming’s Bond wore short sleeve dress shirts, Craig’s Bond never would.

For instance, we might form a view of the character based on Craig using a straight razor (“sometimes old ways are the best”) but then form a different view of the character based on Brosnan’s Bond using an electric razor, when he only did so because Phillips Norelco paid for it.

I also think we as fans have formed a different view of the character then how Fleming meant it to be. We tend to think of the “Bond Lifestyle” as eating and drinking the best, but Fleming’s Bond ate ham sandwiches for lunch and fried chicken with Miller High Life for dinner. Movie Bond is “the man all men wanted to be and all women just wanted,” while book Bond is a miserable chain smoker who I thank the heavens I am not.

So... do I think something like an Apple Watch is consistent with the character? It depends on the portrayal of the Bond wearing it...

Very interesting point. Personally with the exception of SIr Roger I have no difficulty as seeing them all as essentially the same character.

Re: Fitness Tracker

Speaking of watches, does anyone have an idea or gut feeling on the Omega Craig will wear in Bond 25?  ajb007/cool

Bond: I'm sorry. That last hand... nearly killed me.
