In the close-ups, it does appear to be, although not officially confirmed.

I‘ll post it on here again since someone is very watchdog-alike back in the other hundred threads concerning B25.

The gun used by the man on the frozen lake is a VZ58 rifle. It‘s the same the goons use at the desert lair in SP (see pics). So maybe the white dressed man is in fact a member of the organization and it will be featuring in B25 again...

Perhaps Spectre has an exclusive deal with them ? ;)

I really like the thought that the man on the ice using the same rifle as those in that SP scene could mean he/they are also Spectre members—however if that lake scene is actually a flashback to when Madeleine was young that'd be like 30ish years ago...would they still be using the same primary weapons as they did that long ago?
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 21,699MI6 Agent
Nation states often use the same assault rifle for 30-40 years, so it isn't impossible. But of course SPECTRE is a rich criminal organisation, the can afford new ones and they replace guns that's been used in criminal activities because of ballistic evidence.

It's worth mentioning that, as ggl007 pointed out elsewhere, the gun in question is also leaning against the wall in Mr White's hidden room at L'Americain...

It's also true that props get reused in more than one film.

Yeah that'd be my guess—the armoury dept have an interesting weapon in their collection they like to put on screen so it keeps getting brought out?

No news yet who the armoury crew will be for B25, however according to IMDb, the supervising armourer (Joss Skottowe), key technical armourer (Dave Evans) and armourer (Greg Corke) for SP have been with the Bond series for every film since TND, DAD and CR respectively...so I'm assuming they'll all probably be back for this as well? So one of them might just love for the vz58 :)

The Instagram page of the Norwegian stunt company (I didn't know we had any :)) ) that worked (works?) on Bond25. There's a photo of them standing on the ice and it's marked @freedivingnorway

The stuntwoman Charlotte Williams has also worked in Norway and there are some pictures on her on Instagram. She's 4'10'' so she's most likely standing in for the girl. https://www.instagram.com/chazatronic/

I'm surprised that a big spoiler warning didn't come with this report.
    https://www.mi6-hq.com/sections/articles/bond-25-april-2019-report?id=04471

Then again, the PTS is heavily featured in the trailers these days so we'll know for sure by August. Makes we wonder if the Norway sequence is a dream/nightmare for Madeleine (she wakes up as her younger self drowns under the lake) and is there to explain to an audience why someone would want to chase her through Matera to kill her. One could imagine the final shot of the PTS is a recreation of Tracy's death in OHMSS, a single bullet hole through the windscreen.

BTW the most recent Sassilive story on Bond25 (6 April) refers to a place called Marina di Pisticci.
    http://www.sassilive.it/cultura-e-spettacoli/cinema-cultura-e-spettacoli/james-bond-25-al-via-a-matera-e-marina-di-pisticci-i-sopralluoghi-per-le-riprese-del-film-dedicato-allo-007-piu-famoso-del-mondo/

If you look on Google maps, Marina di Pisticci, is a beach.

Doubling down on the OHMSS imagery? A crashed car, with a dead Madeleine, on a beach?

I think Someone is on to something :) here. I also think that the Norway sequence on the ice may be a flashback dream / nightmare for Madeleine. I wonder if that dream sequence foreshadows her death in a car chase in the PTS. Considering who Madeleine's father was and who her present boyfriend is, there would be no shortage of people wanting to do Madeleine or both in. I'm not sure if this is accurate or not, but wasn't it thought at some point that OHMSS would just end with Bond getting married and the next film would begin with Tracey being murdered? This would fit in the tradition in Bond films of story ideas from one film that aren't used surfacing years later in other films. I also wonder if they will use the time trick ala Goldeneye, where there is a screen caption after the title sequence as the rest of the film proceeds "5 years later" and Bond gets on with a another mission that may have nothing to do with the PTS?

The problem for Bond 25 is that this is, essentially, the same way the "Bourne Supremacy" begins. Bond fans might immediately think of OHMSS and not mind the new film "borrowing" from the Fleming canon. But there are a lot of casual moviegoers who would view this sequence as a rip-off of the Bourne franchise. I have a hard time imagining EON would want to go this route.

    ...and that's why it's good I don't write the scripts for Bond films :) . That being said, would "casual movie goers" even equate that with the Bourne films ? I would doubt a bunch of Bourne fans on their site were bummed that The Bourne Supremacy borrowed from Bond. I guess we are just prisoners of our own high standards. -{

Also having her die at the start of Bond 25 may be similar to the start of Bourne Supremacy but the difference will be in the execution. We'll be seeing Bond on a mission of revenge, and all that it entails, rather than Bourne.

Bourne S. is also an old movie now. Older than CR. Casual movie goers won't care about these surface level similarities.

To say some of you are overthinking things is an understatement. Relax about it and see what happens.

Bond25's launch reveal follows Spectre example of announcing all the cast. Skyfall saw only five introduced at the launch event, and Bond25 beats that with six, including Rami Malek by videolink.

The Bond25 cast is quite large compared to DC's previous flims. They named 13 people. Spectre had 10 main characters, Bond, all 4 of the Scooby gang, C, Oberhauser, Hinx, Madeleine and Lucia Sciarra. Of the remaining cast, only Mr White had any significant role, but only one scene. Skyfall is similar with 10 key cast members, and Helen McCrory had some lines, making 11. Quantum could be argued to have a larger cast than Bond25 at 14. This does include Fernando Guillén Cuervo as the Colonel of Police who is only in one scene but is key because he betrayed Mathis. Casino Royale has 12 main cast members, including Le Chiffre's girlfriend Valenka, but Casino is almost two separate stories. The first half is Dimitrios and the Skyfleet plane bombing and the second half is the poker game.

Of all of the Bond25 roles we have previously heard about, we now know who is likely to be the young female MI6 agent, Lashasha Lynch; the mysterious woman, Ana de Armas, and Bond's 'accomplice,' Felix Leiter. There is no Maori henchman. There are also no Russians or Finnish people. I think the Russians were part of Boyle's cold war idea, and probably the Maori henchman too, so they went wth Boyle.

I think in comparing the Bond25 cast list with the other DC films it becomes clear that David Dencik, Ana de Armas, Billy Magnussen, Dali Benssalah, may only be in one or two scenes.

    Bond25
    Daniel Craig ... James Bond
    Léa Seydoux ... Madeleine Swann
    Naomie Harris ... Eve Moneypenny
    Ben Whishaw ... Q
    Ralph Fiennes ... M
    Rory Kinnear ... Tanner
    Jeffrey Wright ... Felix Leiter
    Lashana Lynch ... New 007
    Billy Magnussen ... CIA agent
    Rami Malek ... Villain
    Dali Benssalah ... Henchman
Ana de Armas ... Mysterious woman
David Dencik ... scientist/younger Mr White?

For comparison, these are 13 cast members for each of DC's previous films.

    Spectre
    Daniel Craig ... James Bond
    Christoph Waltz ... Blofeld
    Léa Seydoux ... Madeleine
    Ralph Fiennes ... M
    Monica Bellucci ... Lucia
    Ben Whishaw ... Q
    Naomie Harris ... Moneypenny
    Dave Bautista ... Hinx
    Andrew Scott ... C
    Rory Kinnear ... Tanner
    Jesper Christensen... Mr. White
    Alessandro Cremona... Marco Sciarra
    Stephanie Sigman... Estrella

    Skyfall
    Daniel Craig ... James Bond
    Judi Dench ... M
    Javier Bardem ... Silva
    Ralph Fiennes ... Gareth Mallory
    Naomie Harris ... Eve
    Bérénice Marlohe... Severine
    Albert Finney ... Kincade
    Ben Whishaw ... Q
    Rory Kinnear ... Tanner
    Ola Rapace ... Patrice
Helen McCrory ... Clair Dowar MP
    Bill Buckhurst ... Ronson
    Tonia Sotiropoulou... Bond's Lover

    Quantum
    Daniel Craig ... James Bond
    Olga Kurylenko ... Camille
    Mathieu Amalric ... Dominic Greene
    Judi Dench ... M
    Giancarlo Giannini... Rene Mathis
    Gemma Arterton ... Strawberry Fields
    Jeffrey Wright ... Felix Leiter
    David Harbour ... Gregg Beam
    Jesper Christensen... Mr. White
    Anatole Taubman ... Elvis
    Rory Kinnear ... Bill Tanner
    Tim Pigott-Smith... Foreign Secretary
    Joaquín Cosio ... General Medrano

    Casino
    Daniel Craig ... James Bond
    Eva Green ... Vesper Lynd
    Mads Mikkelsen ... Le Chiffre
    Judi Dench ... M
    Jeffrey Wright ... Felix Leiter
    Giancarlo Giannini... Rene Mathis
    Caterina Murino ... Solange
    Simon Abkarian ... Alex Dimitrios
    Isaach De Bankolé... Steven Obanno
    Jesper Christensen... Mr. White
    Ivana Milicevic ... Valenka
    Tobias Menzies ... Villiers
    Malcolm Sinclair... Dryden

I don't think that we are aware of all the story locations and maybe not all the filming locations. Norway, Italy, and Jamaica don't seem like enough locations, especially when Norway is expected to be for the PTS. I'm not including London in this speculation as it is always a location.

Matera, Italy could be for an Italian location and an African location. Some here speculated that Cadiz was going to double for Tunisia, but Cadiz doesn't seem to be a filming location now.

I think reports that Matera and Norway are both locations for the PTS can't be true. Norway could be doubling for somewhere else, Austria maybe. Now we know Bond is retired in Jamaica, it would seem there won't be an Italian wedding in Bond25.

Looking back at DC's other films, some locations have been doubled by the UK. Casino had eight story locations, but Pakistan (for the toilet kill), Miami airport and Uganda (I think) were all UK filming locations. Prague was used for the PTS diplomatic building's exterior, a scene with M allegedly in London and the Miami Body Worlds exhibition (http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/c/Casino-Royale-2006.php). While the Bahamas doubled for Madagascar, of course principal filming also took place in Montenegro and Venice.

Quantum had five story locations, Italy, Austria, Bolivia, Haiti, which was actually Panama (http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/q/Quantum-Of-Solace.php), and I would say that Russia was UK backlot filming. The exploding hotel at the end, which is supposed to be Bolivia, is based in Chile.

Skyfall had six story locations, Turkey, Bond's beach hideaway, Shanghai, Macao, mystery island, Scotland, but Shanghai was 2nd unit and Macao and the mystery island were UK backlot filming. Bond's beach hideaway was elsewhere in Turkey. So, really, for principal photography/cast, they only had two filming locations, Turkey, and the UK.

Spectre had four story locations, Mexico, Italy, Austria (Altaussee & Hoffler clinic), and Morocco (Tangier)/North Africa, and actually they did film in all those places.

Maybe Bond25 will only be Norway, Italy, London and Jamaica, but that doesn't seem enough for a story that begins in Jamaica, involves the CIA and a hunt for a kidnapped scientist and leading actors with North African ethnicity. Could there be 'locations' which are 2nd unit exterior shooting and principal cast interior shooting at Pinewood? Could there be the scenes/locations that are the filming equivalent of Quantum's Chile and Panama for Bond25?

I thought it was very clever when they used Rome to double for Tangier though.

Didn't Babs or Michael say yesterday a substantial amount of the film will take place in Jamaica (I guess ruling it out as just for the PTS)

Though of course they could just be exaggerating and pleasing everybody since they were actually there!!

It'll be interesting to see how they do a PTS with Bond already retired; you'd imagine Felix would come calling after the credits when the story proper begins. What action will Bond see before then?

Good point. Maybe Felix comes knocking because he is on a mission in Jamaica (or a nearby island called Crab Key!).

If the scene shot in Norway really is Madeleine, I think the contrast between Jamaica and the icy landscape in the flashback will be interesting. Perhaps Madeleine is swimming in the tropical waters of Jamaica triggers the childhood memory? It seems like the scene shot in Norway has at least as much action as the CR PTS. The flashback ends with her as a girl swimming back towards the hole in the ice. We cut back to the adult Madeleine breaking the surface back in Jamaica, out of breath from the disturbing memory. She wades back on land where Felix' car is arriving. They say hallo and Felix tells Bond: "James, we need you again …"
    Cue the title sequence.
