It doesn't look to hopeful for a Bond25 trailer in front of Universal Pictures' Fast and Furious presents: Hobbs and Shaw, released in the UK on 1 August .

There is no Bond25 trailer on the British Board of Film Classification website and it already has a number of trailers approved for release in August and beyond.

How long into principle photography did you get previous teaser trailers?
Would be interesting to know as i could mean a late august / early September trailer?...
Surely it would be a similar length into production that we get the teaser and that must be soon?...

Spectre and Skyfall had wildly differing dates-from-principle-photography before there was a teaser trailer.

    I discuss this, here
    https://www.ajb007.co.uk/post/954075/#p954075

It will be November if they follow Skyfall's release schedule.

I have been wondering if Global James Bond day, 5 October, will be the new title reveal and teaser trailer drop date?

I've heard that Heineken and other brands will kick off a big campaign in October.

Thinking the trailer needs to debut with a big movie opening feels very PHANTOM MENACE. I suspect the big debut will be online, irrespective of another film's opening. Going off SKYFALL and SPECTRE (though Sony might've dictated those, in which case those metrics are out the window), you could be waiting until September or November for a trailer.

Think I could just about wait til September :))
I could get through August as we have Matera filming which I’m sure will provide us with discussion material and some interesting set pics
    Plus with a September teaser & title, maybe October teaser poster and the beginning of some brands Bond marketing campaigns, things will rapidly heat up. Things come new year will turn to title song, theatrical trailer & poster, some pieces of the score (hopefully) and some clips. I think every month from here on will be a steady stream of juicy bits!! BRING IT ON -{

I disagree. I think it’s more important for a Bond trailer to be attached to a big film than it is for a Marvel or Star Wars trailer, for example. People seek out those trailers online in a way that Bond’s audience does not seem to do. Take Spectre, for example. It was the follow-up to the biggest Bond of all time and its youtube trailer views sit at 8.3 million. Compare that to SOLO: A Star Wars Story, which followed up a deeply divisive Star Wars film and was ultimately considered a box office flop. It’s trailer has 18 million views. In case you’re wondering, The Force Awakens, which came out a month after Spectre, has 103 million views. Similarly, Avengers: Age of Ultron, which also came out the same year as Spectre, has 87 million views. And even a middling Marvel effort like Ant Man and the Wasp has 16 million trailer views. Captain Marvel has 58 million.

Obviously this is an imperfect study, but for me it suggests that traditional marketing tactics, like attaching a trailer to a big opening, clearly benefit films like Bond that do not have such widespread appeal.

All I want are more reveals of Bond in casual wear. I hope there's more of that than the Jamaica shorts we've got already.

What big releases did the SPECTRE and SKYFALL trailers debut with? Asking honestly; all I recall is an online drop that we waited with excitement for.

What big releases did the SPECTRE and SKYFALL trailers debut with? Asking honestly; all I recall is an online drop that we waited with excitement for.

    Looking back at what big tent pole films came out about the time of the Skyfall and Spectre trailers;

Sony had Men in Black III out on 25 May 2012, four days after the Skyfall teaser dropped, 200 days after principle photography started.
    https://www.movieinsider.com/movies/may/2012

There were no big Sony movies out in late March 2015 for the Spectre teaser, so one wonders why it came out so much earlier at 112 days after principle photography started.
    https://www.movieinsider.com/movies/march/2015

BTW Quantum of Solace's teaser came out 28 July 2008, 208 days after principle filming began on 3 January 2008.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkLcEGMkGMs
There were no big Sony films coming out at this time.

Casino Royale's teaser came out very quickly, in May, a mere 95 days (4 May release) after its 30 January 2006 start of filming (https://www.mi6-hq.com/sections/movies/cr) to be shown in front of Sony's The Da Vinci Code (https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=3684) which came out on 19 May (https://www.movieinsider.com/movies/may/2006).

The only online dated video of Casino's teaser trailer I can find is this French version, dated 4 May 2006.
    http://www.allocine.fr/video/player_gen_cmedia=18604811&cfilm=58525.html

So, we can say that for two of DC's Bond films, Skyfall and Casino, the distributing studio did have movies coming out about the time the teaser dropped. We can also see that for two, Spectre and Quantum, they didn't, with one of them dropping the teaser fairly quickly, after 112 days, and the other 208 days after filming began.

Universal Pictures has nothing coming out in October, a horror movie, The Hunt, in September, and then Sam Mendes' war movie, 1917, in December - a bit too late for a teaser IMHO, 245 days after start of principle/Jamaica filming.
    https://www.universalpictures.com/movies#future-releases

So, the conclusion I draw is that there are no Universal tent pole movies coming out to attach the teaser to and history suggests that it can equally be an Internet-only drop. If it's 112-days that is a 15 August drop, and if it is 200 days it is a 11 November drop; unlikely as that is remembrance (Veteran's) day in the UK.

I think Global James Bond day, 5 October (163 days after Bond25 Jamaica filming began) is a good option. The average of the four previous DC films' teaser trailer drops after filming began is 153 days.

Remember that Universal is not distributing the movie in the US. I would focus more on MGM releases...

    I enjoy the speculation.

MGM doesn't seem to have anything slated for release around Someone's dates. But bigger movies that could host a trailer between August and November include: 9/20 has Ad Astra and Rambo. 10/4 has Joker, 10/11 has Gemini Man, 11/1 has Terminator. 11/8 has Midway.

But I do agree where the internet may be the drop.

I think the internet will see it first, but it's still most likely a few days before a major release, probably one of the MGM ones you mentioned.

I mean, it’s obviously going to drop first on the internet. I’ve watched every Bond trailer since DAD on the internet before I saw it in a theatre. The question is whether it will also be attached as a trailer to a large film. I think it will be.
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 21,763MI6 Agent
Now we know the director, main cast, crew, locations, plot outline etc. Other than the title and title song artist I'm not sure I want to know much more before I see the trailer and finally the movie. I have a reasuring feeling the production is running nicely and it's actually a good thing we don't hear much news. From now on I'll try staying away from the spoiler thread ("try"being the operative word :)) )

Just a thought.....I'm guessing the first teaser will premier with a big release, but initially only in IMAX theaters. I say this because Bond 25 is being partially filmed with 70mm IMAX cameras and there seems to be a pattern of movies utilizing IMAX cameras having the first trailer exclusive to IMAX theaters.

Bond 25 distributor Annapurna possibly headed for bankruptcy...

"But perhaps the biggest looming question is the fate of the James Bond franchise. Annapurna has at least a 50 percent stake in United Artists Releasing. Bond 25, which has been plagued by setbacks including a director switch, star Daniel Craig's ankle injury and at least two peeping tom incidents involving hidden cameras in a bathroom, is scheduled to be released April 8 by UAR (Ellison is also a board member of the UAR). How Annapurna's cash flow issues will effect the MGM tentpole's release will be determined. An MGM source says there would be no impact on the release of any its titles including Bond."

Would all the money for the Bond 25 production already be secured? If anything I suspect that the marketing budget would be where the money could be a problem, if there would be any problem. Bond 25 needs to copy Skyfall's marketing plan. I've never seen a Bond film promoted so well.

It looks like Dad could save the day.
"Ellison, reportedly the fourth-richest person in America and the No. 7 richest individual person in the world with a fortune estimated at $70 billion, has his own revolving credit facility with two of the key banks that are part of the Annapurna credit facility."

Am I losing any sleep over this affecting Bond 25? No. But if you've been a Bond fan long enough you'll know that when banks and lawyers are involved, you can't take anything for granted...

The Annapurna financial issues will get sorted one way or another. Either as pointed out by Someone, big Daddy will save the day or another company will take their place (I guess Universal could step in since they are the distributor for everywhere else)....Bond is a guaranteed money maker and a smart investment. It is interesting to hear that the whole bringing back United Artists was a result of MGM not wanting the Annapurna name anywhere near the franchise so the compromise was MGM and Annapurna partnering under the UA banner.

There's only so many times Dad will save the day, though. He didn't get rich by continuously throwing good money after bad.

We went through this just 10 months ago...

MGM continues to be such a drag on this franchise. My goodness. When will someone make them an offer their shareholders can’t refuse for the Bond rights so that the franchise can be liberated from their garbage financial situation? If EON has a partner that even remotely had its act together, my guess is there would be more leverage to press production of a film more than 2-3 times per decade.

    Where did you read that?

It was in the article on MI6 which quotes from both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline (sorry, when I read it I was in a hurry and missed the part about it being a rumour):

"Rumours circulated that MGM, proud of their Bond heritage and 50% ownership of the franchise, did not want Annapurna's name anywhere near the film, despite being in partnership to distribute. A compromise was found when the old United Artists brand was resurrected. MGM and Annapurna are equal partners on the new UA, the label under which Bond 25 will be released in the USA and Canada."

Could be a bunch of nonsense, but interesting none the less.

It's a small tragedy that the longest running franchise is so badly managed. Has MGM never not been in debt or bankrupt or needing a bailout ? What a company, eh! And now Eon have hooked up with another debt-ridden company - Annapurna. They sure know how to pick 'em! :))

I don't think a Disney Bond film is any guarantee of quality but I'm sure that studio would not have financial problems! Disney is a super efficient film studio. Warner Bros might be another home for Bond. I don't think the future for the franchise is with MGM or any other independent distributors.

Ironically, MGM is probably in the best financial shape than they've been in in years (primarily due to TV production). However, your point is very well taken. As far as Annapurna is concerned, I was under the impression that MGM had the final say on choosing a distributor not EON. I do think Annapurna was an odd choice to handle distribution in the US and Canada but I get the feeling they were willing to settle for less than the big studios who probably really wanted to sink their claws into Bond. I always hoped that MGM would sell their half of Bond to a studio like Warners, who had deep pockets and their own distribution while EON would continue on as the producers and film makers. I wouldn't even care if Disney bought out MGM as long as EON stayed on. It's amazing how many studio/production logos show up on the screen when the opening credits roll for a film these days. I kind of miss the old days when it was just the Warners, Universal, Columbia, UA, MGM, etc logo. I found it a bit disconcerting the first time I saw the MGM Lion roar instead of the UA logo before the Gun Barrel on a Bond film......I guess I was on to something :( .
