I have raised the question about the presence of the Aqua Terra since Skyfall. I think the consensus is that the AT is Bond's personal watch. Hence why we he has mostly been seen wearing it while he's rouge or off duty. Why he wasn't issued a new watch when put on back active duty in Skyfall still bugs me to this day.

Why would he have to be issued a watch? I'd expect my employees to buy their own! :D

Is it odd? He can just own another watch can't he? He's got another old Aston waiting in another lockup you know... :)

In Craig’s films up to SPECTRE, his watches aren’t gadgets, they’re just watches. Gadgets weren’t a prominent feature until SPECTRE.

Yes that would be my point ;) . Why would MI6 give him a watch?
    Asp9mm wrote:
The chrono in SPECTRE is an oddity as it’s not a current model so serves no purpose in the brand tie in and Omega branding within the films.

Like having an Aston Martin DB5 in the film, you mean? :D

I still wonder why they chose to put that watch in there. And it was purposely put into that scene as it was part of and in the ‘prop bible’ used on set for continuity.

Well... obviously..? I'm hardly surprised that something they put in the film, in a close up, on the main character, was supposed to be there! :D

It wasn't obvious at the time and was originally classed as a continuity error as Craig owns that exact watch. Similar thing happened with the regular SM300 which led people to buy the incorrect watch. But the prop bible confirmed the chrono was sourced 18 months before the film premiered.

The DB5 is connected to Bonds character, so is always shoehorned into the films. The Omega chrono doesn’t have that connection, or any connection at all beyond that one scene. That’s why some of us are interested to know the reason behind it’s choice. People were fully expecting Omega to release it again as part of their vintage range, but that never happened.

Given Craig’s level of influence on Bond wardrobe dating back to Skyfall, isn’t it likely that this was just a choice that he pushed for?

Seems obvious to me. There's a close up on Bond's hands which probably aren't even Craig's!

Exactly: part of Bond's character is that he likes some old things. Look at his flat in Dr No with his pictures of Edwardian cars on the all. It's hardly 'shoehorning'.

You're overthinking it. Bond has pretty things.

MI6 has issued watches to Bond on screen since Thunderball. It was even implied in DAD that nearly every watch Bond has worn on screen was issued to him. As ASP mentions, in the Craig continuity only the Spectre 300 (and now the broad arrow Seamaster in NTTD) are confirmed to be government issued. But I could see an argument where all of the watches are issued. The only obvious outlier would be the chrono at the end of Spectre, which makes sense because he has now quit the service and would have hypothetically been required to give back his equipment. Yet this particular theory is blown by the re-emergence of the modern Omegas in NTTD when Bond is in retirement.

I think that’s exactly what we were supposed to do, as they changed the watch slightly after SF was filmed. Makes sense commercially that they’d use the new one in the new film. Visually they are virtually identical, only hardcore loons like us would notice the difference.

They have tried to keep a decent watch continuity between films after Casino Royale. The only oddity that can’t be explained is the vintage chrono at the end of SPECTRE.

Thanks for your answer. I get that the Aqua Terra watches worn in Skyfall and Spectre, while different models, are meant to be the same watch in terms of film continuity (just like the Casino Royale/Quantum of Solace navy suit). However I thought they would have used one of the newer, horizontally-striped, watches in No Time To Die, with the same details (steel, bracelet, blue dial) rather than use the exact same one in Spectre. Surely they're missing a bit of a marketing opportunity by using a watch that is no longer available?

This is exactly the same reasoning behind me questioning the use of the SPECTRE Chrono. You’d think Omega would want a nice shot of the AT in there. Non Ltd Bond watch available long after the Ltd Ed sold out.

Maybe their marketing is going to be purely aimed at pushing the ti Seamaster as THE Bond watch. It’s non limited and they don’t want to water it down and dilute it with another new watch in there.

You're right in that there was a missed opportunity at the end of Spectre to fit the Aqua Terra in. Your answer on the Aqua Terra in No Time To Die makes sense too-I hadn't thought of it that way. Thanks for your answers and I hope you enjoy the Dr No event.

I’d actually forgotten about that. Love the rotor on that watch. And the rest is very subtle too.

My AD from the US has contacted me, that he has a brand new NTTD Omega on NATO on stock.

They are closed down like any watch store is, but they would be able to send the watch out by mail.
I know them since many years and you can buy there with absolute confidence!

If anybody is interested, please pm me.

Both version are now available to buy direct from Omega’s US and UK sites aren’t they? They were when I checked a week or so ago.

That probably may be the case.

However, in these times, actual stores do suffer in particular because (unlike online stores from manufacturers) most of their business happens on site.

So this may be an opportunity to support a real store in the days of the lockdown.

If your referring to the Bond coat of arms one woth the shield laser engraved on the blue dial it is a spectacular watch and has to be seen in the metal to be appreciated.

My local Omega boutique closed last week...permanently. So it’s not just smaller jewelry shops that are suffering the in US - all brick and mortar stores are at risk. The world is going to look quite different when we emerge from this. I think many will be unpleasantly surprised.

That should be even more reason for us to shop at local retailers (when they offer their services still) instead of the big manufacturers online stores?

In a perfect world i would agree with you but it seems that a lot of the big companies are trimming down their AD network and moving to the boutique model and or online.

Completely agree. Just thought some might find that piece of information enlightening. I’ve never actually bought anything at the now-closed boutique as I prefer my local jeweler.

It is in our hand to vote with our wallets and I have made my decision not to support that way of things.
My AD never let me down, I‘ll stick with him for very good reasons.
And that Omega less and less supports independent ADs is another reason for me not to buy their watches anymore.

I’ve got a review coming up of the customer service I had from Omega Direct when buying my NTTD watch. To say it’s absolutely disgusting covers about 5% of the disgraceful service and ultimate product I received. Honestly, it’s so bad, you couldn’t make it up. It’s bad service and excuses on top of bad service x 4. And then after that, they might have just as well thrown the watch over the counter and said ‘there you go, we don’t care what you think, take that watch and go! Oh and sorry we bust the box when we threw it you, but we might, but probably won’t sort that out in the future.”

The experience has left me with such a bad taste in my mouth, that I will NEVER buy a new Omega ever again, and those that know me, that is some statement as it’s my second or third favourite brand, and I collect. My grandfather wore an Omega when he was flying Hurricanes in WW2, and I still have it. What I’m experiencing from Omega was so bad I can’t even wear this watch and I’m going to throw it up on here for sale, with damaged box in the following week. And I’ve cancelled my 321 Speedy with their boutique too. I’ve kept all their correspondence as evidence too.

In short, don’t go online and buy from Omega. Support your local AD. Omega do not deserve to cruise by at the expense of other people when they care little about their customers or how their customers receive their product.

J, dont dare ask what happened in detail... Shameful tho. Every brand needs to care for its customers, always, but especially now...
What a shame what shouldve been made a magical experience was made memorable for all the wrong in the world.

People complain they’re overpriced, but damn they have epic customer service. Most things around £10 off private sellers on eBay come with better communication and packaging than Omega could muster for. £7.5K watch.

    And seriously. That’s no exaggeration.

Sorry to hear, Asp. But out of curiosity, you've vocally hated this watch at first sight going back to August (https://www.ajb007.co.uk/post/956340/#p956340), calling it "vile" on a couple occasions. What turned you around?

I hated the colour of the screen used one as the dial was lighter. The darker matched tone of the commercially released one is much nicer. I’m also not a fan of Milanese bracelets. But this has grown on me.

In a perverse way I’m looking forward to this ‘review’… companies should be held accountable for their customer service - either good or bad.
I quite like the NTTD watch and it would be a ‘extremely considered’ purchase for me...after hearing of shocking customer service from Omega I think I’d rather save up and put my money towards a Rolex Submariner.
