In this interview Boy George tells Louis Theroux that he has a deal with a company to use his music in films.
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000j2sj

I've noticed that BG's NTTD song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HF4LVW6YTM) is 3mins 54 seconds long, only 10 seconds shorter than Billie Eilish's song, and both are entitled No Time To Die.

Was that the requirement from EON, about 4 minutes long for the main titles edit? Did Boy George genuinely write his song and submit it?
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 36,053Chief of Staff
It's very unlikely that Eon will comment on that- they're very tight-lipped about certain things.
  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,686MI6 Agent
It's possible I guess, both Skyfall and Spectre have title sequences in the 3min 50sec region, whereas CR and QoS were both around 3min 20 sec. I'd certainly imagine they have some specs they send out.

Skyfall had the first chorus truncated for the opening credit sequence though.

It's...super unlikely that Eon solicited a theme song from Boy George. No knock on his talent, but they've been going for bigger and bigger artists in the past decade plus.
  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,686MI6 Agent
I don't think they solicited one from him, but I imagine there's an open brief which gets spread around.

Following Fukunaga's comments about NTTD being locked down I thought this tweet by David Arnold was interesting, in that no film he has ever worked on has never really been locked. Reflects Asp9mm's comment that he knew of ongoing filming even though the film was 'locked'.

Fukunaga said the film was locked down quite a while after the crew was called in for reshoots. But even then his statement flies in the face of information given to me by a handful of crew members who were still working right up to lockdown in the UK on both Bond and Batman. They also said that I would hate this film, so that’s great 8-)

In this case, I am pretty sure that I‘ll immensely enjoy NTTD and with me the majority of audiences :D :p

I’ve assumed for a long time I’d hate it. I imagine for many of the same reasons as you.

Wow, so there is some truth to the claim that a bad screening led to reshoots?

Yeah it doesn't seem a big deal to me. And besides, doing some VFX work might not be the sort of thing that some folk see as being locked down in terms of editing etc. It can be technical polishing rather than big creative choices across the whole movie.

From what I've heard in the past, VFX is sometimes (maybe even often) completed right at the last minute, because it is one of the elements where there are often lots of adjustments that can be made to make the shot better and can still be worked on when the edit is completely locked off. So given the time frame of when the COVID-19 situation really started making an impact I'm not surprised that the VFX company were still busy and had to shift to finishing stuff off from home.

If Maurice Binder was still around, I suspect he would have been filming nude women in a makeshift studio in his living room considering how he famously liked to deliver the finished titles at the very last moment. The question is, would he have made the ladies wear a mask and nothing else?

"Picture lock" does not necessarily mean visual FX (some of which might require different material for different territories). Picture lock to a director might not even mean credit sequences.

    This

Also could be marketing people "working from home. Fukunaga's work is most certainly done.

Out of interest did they given any hint as to why you would hate it? I am assuming that if that is the case then maybe this movie will be a celebration of wokeness, sensitivity, political correctness and feminisim all rolled into one giant clusterf*ck of a movie.

I doubt that’s what we’re going to get. But another film focused heavily on Bond’s personal life and a plot with “emotional,” personal undertones for Bond, where he might even die at the end, seems likely. And I will hate that. In fact, I’ll probably hate that more than woke, politically correct Bond. They clearly have no idea how to create an interesting narrative, so they keep going back to the “personal” angle, which has been the centerpiece of every Bond film since TWINE. Twenty years! Actually, take out TND and it goes back thirty years to LTK! Taken independently, it would’ve been ok for any one of those films. But as a collective body of work? It’s so very tiresome. Major course correction is needed in Bond 26.

I think a woke Bond is great if it's not rubbed in our faces. But I really don't want Bond's death, as it will kill people's future interest in Bond. It will tell the audience that Bond needs to die because he's no longer relevant. It just gives in to the haters.

From everything I've been reading about this film, no doubt it's going to be very personal. They can't say, 'this time there's more action than ever', but they can say that it's even more personal than before. But there's no way to continue on with another Craig Bond film and not make it more personal. That's why I wish Craig didn't return. They've painted into a corner with him.

Agreed completely. I was dreading Craig’s return not because of Craig, but because of the narrative constraints. It’s just not a story I wish to continue.

And I agree about woke Bond. It’s all about the execution. It’s not at all out of character for Bond to be opposed to oppression and injustice.

I too think Bond being so-called "woke" may not bee a problem. It depends on how it's done. I think the key is that Bond shouldn't change too much, but the films can and should be aware of that sort of things. For example the movie should make sure women are treated respectfully, but Bond doesn't have too worry too much about it.
Bond films during Craig's tenure has been to focused on emotions and personal stuff. I hope most of the films of the next actor will focus on the missions. It's entirely possible to have villans with no more emotional versus Bond than the villan wanting to destroy the world and Bond disagrees.
I don't want Bond to die in NTTD either, but I the people who thinks Bond dies because he isn't relevant anymore are already against Bond.

I doubt very much that there will be anything particularly "woke" about Bond himself in NTTD. It was made pretty clear by Phoebe Waller-Bridge that the intention was not to change Bond...Bond would remain Bond. The reality is, Craig's Bond does not need to be "woke" as the character as portrayed by Craig has evolved with the times. As far as the personal angle goes, while I don't quite have the level of objection that some others around here do, I agree that its getting fatigued, especially after the ham handed way it was used in Spectre. I have some faith in Fukunaga, that while there will still be a "personal" angle it will be handled much better.

I keep remembering my old topic about these personal missions that they continue to make.

    https://ajb007.co.uk/topic/43394/the-abundance-of-personal-missions-in-modern-bond-movies/

The story was that they were filming multiple endings. So my guess is that they made:

    1. Bond's death ending. Which I don't want to see.

    2. Madeleine's death ending. Which I don't want to see because we've seen it before in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. And Daniel Craig's Bond is close to batting zero with saving women. Spectre was his first real success.

    3. New Agent death ending. Which I'm not too fond of either as they seem to be making her a cool character. Already far better than Jinx who was terrible.

He doesn't work for MI6 anymore so if this movie wasn't personal for him it would be rather bizarre! :D

Agree. People who fret about "wokeness" and Phoebe Waller-Bridge haven't seen "Killing Eve." Is there a more objectionable, less politically correct character on TV than Villanelle?
