Bond gun

Do u guys like that the Walther P99 is still bonds gun? or would u rather he go back to using the PPK? me personally would perfer if he used the Walther P99 compact instead of the full size P99.

I've always found the P99C a little ugly, although it makes sense to use it as opposed to a P99.

I think the P99 is better than the PPK these days. But as with everything in the films they evolve as do products in the real world.

yea, and even though Bonds a secret agent and all, the PPk is a little under powered and he should use a weapon thats more up to date, hence the P99, any reason why they decided to change to the P99 in TNDs?

It was probably because the PPK was going out of style, and was underpowered for Bond's line of work.

The P99 has a larger magazine and is a compact gun considering this and the calibre of the bullets. I really think it depends on the situation as to choice of weapon. If its combat, and Bond knows this then it should be the P99. But if its unexpected that he will run into trouble then the ppk will be fine.

I think its also a marketing thing, the P99 probably sells better as 'Bonds' gun.

I think it's mainly because Walter wants to sell more guns. Bond will probably not help them sell more PPK's, and they could need some help selling the P99's. The fact that P99 is more up-to-date is a nice bonus.

I'm sure I heared that just before TND the Walther P99 was standard Issue to real MI6/MI5 opperatives.
not that I remmeber where I heared that.

Personally being a non gun person. Not that I am agains't guns, just not very knowledgeable. The PPK looks like something a spy would be using during WW2 or something. The P99 looks like a more modern day gun. So just as bond evolves as we evolve, his gun should.

There is no standard issue firearm to The Firm (MI6/SIS) personnel, they normally contract the SAS or SBS to do the really dangerous stuff, when operatives have to be armed, it will be locally acquired and not MOD issue, if captured or caught out, a standard MOD issue sidearm would kinda drop you in it.

Box (Five) use diverse sidearms too. None of which is the P99. More so Glocks and Sigs.

yea the PPK kinda does look outdated, though it fit in fine in GE i think, but i cant imagine bond on Carver's stealth ship or fighting at the caviar factory with the 8-round 7.65mm PPK

yeah, the PPK is a classic, but whet the Berreta had its time, Bond Moved on (with some feelings of course)

The problem with the P99 is its size, i believe a compact gun would do the job as well, and he could put it in his shoulder hostler (without being noticed) and not in his pants or in an envelope.

I have some feelings for the ASP (Gardner's gun), but again, it has low capacity...

By the way, a loaded P99 can be putted in an envelope and not break it?

That shouldn't be surprising, as the classic PPK is 75 years old.

But it doesn't matter which gun he uses, he finaly hardly uses it anyway, i mean, Bond usually is disarmed by his enemies so he uses whatever comes handy. i mean, he might use a Bazooka in CR in the casino, but he is quickly disarmed. The times he use it at the beginning is more like a "Commando" so a P99 fits well, by the end he uses a lot (he even recharge once or twice, but is that the kind of gun to carry in your bag.

Somebody once said that he might use two guns, a big to "Commando" a a little for "stealth" operations.

The PPK is more of a spy's gun small and light the P99 on the other hand is big and hard to hide in a tuxedo, you could spot it a mile away

I wonder what calibre Bond uses. The P99 comes in 9mm parabellum and .40 SW.

9mm means more rounds but if you want to put down an opponent first hit a 40 will do it nicely. (albeit messily)

It didn't look like there was a "standard issue" MI6 gun this time around. Dryden, the Section Chief in Prague had what looked like a SIGPro. It would be more realistic that Bond could use what he liked within certain criteria. This is the case with most "discreetly-armed personel". Typically a medium-frame 9mm. Sigs, GLOCKS and HK Compacts are very popular.
Also, I liked that Bond didn't keep his weapon on his person ALL THE TIME. He kept the P99 close at hand (car/hotel room) but didn't go to the casino packing heat (like every Bond before him). This just could NOT happen in the 21st Century.
