Re: The alfani shirt

An old, but still relevant, thread as it helped me to pick up this little beauty -

http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp79/craigandujar/AJB/CRAlfaniShirt.jpg

All the specs mentioned in Saint-Antoine's post on the first page match up to the description and pics of this shirt.  I should have it in the next day or two, so I'll be able to confirm once it arrives.  The best part is that it is brand new with the tags still attached.  I'll post better pics once it arrives.

Kind regards,
Craig

Re: The alfani shirt

Funny enough, i originally bought this exact shirt back in 2006 thinking it was a "close enough" for the ocean club shirt, only until years later did i realize through you guys that it was actually the exact screen worn shirt i had all along.  ajb007/lol

Re: The alfani shirt

Just dug my old one out and it does not appear to be SA as cannot find "hidden" buttons.

Can anybody elaborate on these "hidden buttons" are they under each collar point or something???

Mines 100% Poly and suede like with silk lining but made in Taiwan lol.  Mines more grey then black so might hunt down a Large - appears many black ones have been and gone on eBay but midnight blue a hell of a lot rarer!!

I can't find the reference for it but supposedly the original shirt had them, and they were removed for the filming. So I wouldn't worry too much about it. Matt S can probably chime in here with better info......

Are you gents cutting the shirt from the last button like in the move?, what's the accurate length from the last button, inch?

Re: The alfani shirt

I guess this isn't a grail item like the Purcells or the Sta-Prest, but I've been pretty giddy about finding this thing on the rack at a thrift store. The question now is whether to accurize it the way I did the Barbour To Ki To...

Re: The alfani shirt

Hello everyone

Found this shirt on eBay a few weeks ago.

Quick question for the experts, is it screen accurate?

Re: The alfani shirt

Looks SA to me
The labels are correct, it has the collar buttons, and although ht is not clear from the photos I assume it has the chest pocket?

69

Re: The alfani shirt

Thanks mailedfist. IT does have the chest pocket on the left, although hard to see in the first photo.

I'm definitely no photographer but this particular fabric is a nightmare to photograph accurately. The funny thing is that I bought for a decent "close-enough" because it looked dark turquoise or green in the seller's photos.

Very happy!

70

Re: The alfani shirt

Yes that is correct. You did well. I also picked up a size large a few months ago on eBay new with tags no less. I did see the shirt you purchased. The pics were definitely tough to tell the color but I assume yours is midnight blue also.

71

Re: The alfani shirt

Mine is definitely, 100% black . The last 2 photos represent its true colour fairly well.
From the research I've done, the shirt used was indeed black. This was even despite the costume designer Lindy Hemming describing its colour as "deep navy" on the Casino Royale DVD commentary.
I could be wrong, in which case someone will correct me.

72

Re: The alfani shirt

BTW, not trying to one-up you there John. I would still be very happy with a midnight-blue one.

73

Re: The alfani shirt

No offense taken. Its a crazy collecting world and I try not to get caught up in the SA thing so much. Who knows what color it should be. It sure looks black in the movie but with the crazy dang lighting who knows. I've also read it was a very dark blue. I'd say lets just be happy we have the correct style shirt and enjoy it.

Re: The alfani shirt

I just rediscovered this short CR behind the scenes documentary.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KQjp-e … 0&t=0s

About 2 and a half minutes in there are a few shots of the Alfani shirt without any colour correction, you can really see its true colour.
quite a lot of rare footage in this documentary indeed.
