Hello everyone,
A friend of mine, who is an Emmy winning makeup Artist, sculpted this gold bar replica from “Goldfinger”….You know… The one that's part of the 1940 smelt from the Weigenhaler foundry at Essen. It was part of a smelt of six hundred that vanished in 1944 when the Nazis were on the run. It's from the bottom of Lake Toplitz in the Salzkammergut.
He had 12 of them cast and has been selling them on and off for the past year.
He’s down to the last three and highly doubts he will be doing a 2nd run. I suggested posting the photos on the board in case anyone may be interested.
The original was sculpted then cast in resin. It was then dipped in nickel, then copper and finally plated in 24K gold plated. It's a hefty 2 lbs. and It's cold to the touch
Another fun part of this project was researching the info about the gold bars mentioned in the film.
I never knew that the information really was factual. The Nazi were on the run from the Allies and stopped at Lake Toplitz to dispose of the gold bars they were carrying by tossing the gold into its murky water.
The most disturbing part was that the gold bar, like the one we see in the film, was made by melting and recasting the gold confiscated from the concentration camps…watches, jewelry, even teeth!!!! VERY eerie!!!!!
The gold bar comes with a “Receipt of Property” form signed by both Bond as well as Major Boothroyd when he drew it from Q-Branch as well as being wrapped in the green felt seen in the film.
Because of the nature of this prop having Nazi markings and easily fooling anyone into thinking this may be, in fact, a real gold bar he is limiting its sale to the USA only.
I thought it worthy to at least, let everyone see his fine work in recreating this replica.
