Re. The Omega LE 50 years James Bond Edition

Received the phantastic presskit from Omega today:

In the caseback center, there is a little spphire glass, that makes the rotor center (gold colored part) visible.

The Gold Centre is designed to look like the back end of a bullet casing.

Please keep in mind, that these are computer rendered shots, the 007 logo pattern on the dial will be far less visible in real life:

I think it makes a nice display watch. I, too, would go for non-limited editions as actual wearable watches.

Who knows, though, I might even still be tempted to put on that one if I ever owned one?

I found a Malaysian newspaper that said it would be $5,000 (equivalent) for the 41mm.

Even with the new images the watch is still bad. It's a big "look at me I'm a Bond fan" watch. I thought Swatch Group had a good idea doing watches for each movie. They did the movies first and then the bad guys. But because of the pricing and a lot of generic designs, the watches weren't the best. I wish they would try again at a higher price range. Then choose characters or groups from the Bond films. Something the characters or groups would actually wear. For example:

    1. They could do a modern Bond watch with the RAF strap or new textile type strap. I think that the Certina DS Action Diver or the new Oris Aquis come close to modern Bond watches. But there is always room for improvement and a completely fresh design.

    2. I always wanted a Drax watch that would be the colors of his company. The black and yellow. One could imply that these were worn by the workers and "perfect people" that Drax was using.

    3. The Honey Rider watch. A light weight, sporty, white watch to match her bikini.

    4. The SPECTRE Group watch. Something really sinister with the logo hidden on the back.

    5. A modern pilot watch that Pussy Galore and her pilots would wear. They could use the Flying Circus colors and logo on the back of the watch.

Well designed watches like the above I would buy in seconds. Not the generic anniversary stuff that is being released all the time.

I asked how much it would cost and it will be £3160 for one watch.

Take the repeating 007 pattern off the dial and its a nice watch! I can cope with the reverse but the 007 logs ruin it for me as a wearable watch. One for the collector who wants to keep it mint in the box but not one I'd wear.

Went to the Omega boutique in London tonight, they've got a Bond exhibition there till tomorrow. You need to go if you can!!! It's the boutique at the Olympic site.

They're showing one prop from each of the 22 films and displaying quite a few of the Omega watches used in the films, fantastic!!!!! Pieces include Jaws' teeth, the golden gun, Tosca opera earpiece from QoS, poker chips from CR and so many more.

Tried on the new watch too, the gold bullet piece on the rear rotates, it's amazing and comes in a lovely presentation box too. And yes it's £3160 and they've already sold 5 since going on sale yesterday, more stock will be in soon.

The guys at Omega were amazing, nothing was too much bother, I was in there over an hour and they encouraged photos, they seemed chuffed to have the pieces there.

I've got lots of pics I'll upload some when I get home.
