Irony: I thought she was one of the most attractive Bond girls, period.  I'm also serious.  But there's no accounting for taste.  ajb007/insane  ajb007/wink  ajb007/lol

Agreed. I thought she was very attractive.

Okay, go ahead and sue me for this one, but I never found Sylvia Trench attractive! Not saying she's the worst by any means, but I just never found her all that beautiful. I'm not quite sure why. Her face just seemed to be crooked in the films.

Anyone with me?... Fellas?...  ajb007/lol

Yep.  ajb007/lol   Also happen to agree with you on Sylvia Trench, although it was probably not the actress.  She seemed to be marinating her face in makeup and that's never a turn-on for me.

By the way, are you gonna eat that?

I feel the same about Sylvia Trench. I remember thinking that Bond could do better than that!

Really, I always thought of her as the sexy older woman, she had a real sense of naughtiness about her that suited Bond perfectly. I thought they made a good couple. This stuff is so subjective though as I have been entirely underwhelmed by recent ladies including Vesper which I know is sacrilege and a very minority view in these parts but I thought she was a bit ratty looking.

Re: most unattractive Bond conquest

Gayson was only 33/34 when she made DR. NO, 2 years older than Connery. I liked Sylvia's moxie. She was "out to get" Bond, broke into his apartment and undressed into one of his dress shirts. Certainly as forward and daring as Tracy.

I agree that Sylvia Trench has an air of "naughtiness" about her and she has "moxie" and all that, but I just don't find her to be that physically attractive. Variety!

I agree with this 100%, although, as I said, it looked more or less like she was just wearing WAY too much makeup.

By the way, are you gonna eat that?

That was the style at the time I think.

If it was, then why didn't I have an issue with it on any other Bond girl except the actress who played Helga Brandt (who was heavily made up on purpose, I know)?  Or frankly, too many other films from that era?  ajb007/confused  I guess I mean that even by the standards of the time, she was or seemed to be marinating in it.

You got me there, perhaps it suits some more than others. Also 1962 was still very much the 1950's in terms of style. By 1967 things and looks had changed somewhat so comparison is not like for like. However what we can agree on is that Helga Brandt was one sexy woman.

Well, Karin Dor was anyway.  If you see any photos of her outside YOLT, you'll see that it's by far her least attractive role (the Nikki van der Zyl voice doesn't help...ironically, her natural voice speaking English wasn't half bad).  Sometimes totally changing an actress's looks seems to work, but I liked Karin Dor far better as a brunette.  As with Yvonne Shima in DN (who was aged thanks to makeup as opposed to "Germanified"...Cubby apparently didn't think she looked German enough!), it's my contention that if they simply let her look more like herself, she wouldn't be on half the "least attractive" lists she often does appear on.

By the way, are you gonna eat that?

Re: most unattractive Bond conquest

Did none of these women do the interview circuit back in the day? It seems a number of modern Bond gals could do with being dubbed, but of course interviews would let the cat out of the bag. Back in the 60s, it seemed just about everyone was dubbed! The most amazing was Sean Connery, dubbed for the first two films because his real voice was more John Laurie in real life, eventually in GF, after elocution lessons, they let him go with his real voice.

Wow, is that true that Sean was dubbed ? Presumably it was only for certain bits of dialogue ?

Not only that, but a Benjali waiter who lived in Eastbourne dubbed Bernard Lee for the entire run.

Re: most unattractive Bond conquest

Connery, dubbed? Seriously?  I can't believe it.

I'd still do Sylvia. Hose her off, roll her in baby powder, and go to it. Oh, sure Ursula Andress was a whole new ball game when she strolled out of the surf "la-la-laing" to her shells, but in chilly ol' London, Sylvia was a high style wench with great attributes.

Maybe it's that I love her sarcastic little "goody-goody" hand clapping pantomime in FRWL when Bond tells her "Well, make it an hour." Still makes me laugh. In both films he seems to squeeze ajb007/wink her in between urgent appointments or plane flights. That'd be REALLY cool if they brought back a Sylvia for Daniel Craig to fence with.

I would to. I always hoped she would be a more or less constant 'friend with benefits' It would be great if something similar could happen with DC. it would be particularly good if they kept the name as homage.
