Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

Anthony Horowitz has confirmed on Twitter that the novel will not be called 'Murder on Wheels' but that a chapter in the novel will be called this (most likely the chapter containing the Fleming material). This ties with what Barbel said above (that the novel will not be called 'Murder on Wheels'). Horowitz also said that he only got four words of the new Bond novel written with all of the fuss of yesterday's announcement hitting the media, meaning that he is actually still writing the novel. I'd certainly advise interested members to follow Mr Horowitz on Twitter if they have not already done so in order that they may hear all the latest news on Project Oneajb007/martini

I also read in The Times last night that Fleming's grand niece said that Fleming's original TV script treatment entitled 'Murder on Wheels' would be included as an appendix to the novel if fans so desired so let me add my voice to the campaign to make this so as this would be a Bond fan's dream come true - to read a new Fleming Bond piece - for the first time since November 1999 when forgotten Fleming short story '007 in New York' came in The Sunday Times Magazine.  ajb007/smile  ajb007/martini

Indeed. Especially the part about including Ian Fleming's 'Murder on Wheels' as an appendix/extra to the novel itself. Hopefully this will happen if enough of us Bond fanatics clamor for it from the rooftops!  ajb007/lol

Thanks SM for keeping us up to date. I'm off now to Twitter to follow Mr Horowitz, and am also hoping that the Fleming treatment will be included.

11 songs done for next CD- one being discarded- now the mixing & mastering begins.

Not quite true, SM, is it? If a Bond fan had wanted to read read 007 in New York they could have done so as far back as 1964 when it was published in the US edition of the THRILLING CITIES.

Will be interested in MURDER ON WHEELS - IF original version - to compare with Horowitz, if it comes about...

I think there's zero chance of a CR prequel, a lit how Bond became Bond.

The movie went down that route - with varying degrees of success - and a novel would be instantly compared with that. For better or worse.

Don't forget they already covered this in great detail in John Pearsons Bond novel.

Perfectly true, though my point was after the Craig Bond cinematic reboot with CR and "Bond becoming Bond" we would be unlikely to see that now for fear of comparison so soon after.

Then again, much of Pearson's very early stuff was "paraphrased/remade" by Charlie Higson.  ajb007/smile

That was what I meant by "forgotten" as in it had been published before but that was not to mind in 1999 in Britain at least. I could have been clearer there, sorry - 1999 was the first time I had heard of the story anyhow. But yes, it was originally published in the American edition of Fleming's Thrilling Cities as an apologia for Fleming's harsh comments on New York in the travel book (and nothing more really) as Bond obviously enjoyed the city more than his creator did! In effect it was a sop to the American public.

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

I'm a fan of Foyle's War and I've read and liked both House of Silk and some of the Alex Rider novels, so this is great news indeed!
I also like that it's set in the 50's, Solo showed us some of the horrors of a contemporary Bond.

??? But "Solo" wasn't contemporary, Number24, it was set in the late 60s.

Hence why Number24's memory is like someone in their late 60's.  ajb007/lol

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

Just when you thought there wasn't anything left of Ian Fleming's work we didn't know about, they come forward with plot outlines that were to be used in a possible James Bond tv series that never happened.
You know, Ian Fleming is still with us, even from beyond.

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

Just heard about this now, this is Great News!
I am already a fan of Anthony Horowitz, having remembered reading some of his Alex Rider Spy novels when I was younger. The House of Silk is a fantastic Sherlock Novel and he also writes a lot for television. He created the TV Show, Midsomer Murders, and wrote the first few series episodes. Also its been mentioned Foyles War, set in the 40's WW2. If you are interested though, the latest season of Foyles War is late 40's, Cold War era. Might be a taster of what is to be expected from Horowitz in the novel?

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

That was a good piece, thanks for linking that SM.

So... 13  story outlines minus 6 from existing stories leaves 7. FYEO, FAVTAK and "Risico" for sure were based on story outlines, I think TLD was too, leaves 3.
We know QoS wasn't, "007 in NY" and OP are unlikely to have been, and I believe "Rarity" and "Lady" weren't either. Take away MoW leaves 2 more outlines still to be used.
There's a bit of guesswork there of course! ajb007/smile

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

Just wanted to throw my two cents into this.

I've read all of the Alex Rider books by Horowitz when I was younger and loved each one of them. He kept the action high in the books and suspense even higher. Just thinking about the books now makes me want to go and reread them.

With that in mind, I am very excited to read anything Horowitz will write about Bond, especially that they are using works never before seen from Fleming. SO EXCITED.  ajb007/biggrin
