Re: SPECTRE reviews - *SPOILERS*

I'm getting the same vibe from these reviews. All the reviews seem to be coming from people that only have a very surface understanding for the character and the franchise, regardless of the review being good or bad.

I am willing to wager that most of us will like this film better than Skyfall even though the critics will prefer the latter. Maybe Skyfall was a better film, but I'm hoping SPECTRE will be a better BOND film.  ajb007/martini

Yes! exactly this, well said ajb007/martini

Re: SPECTRE reviews - *SPOILERS*

The problem with Bond reviews is that everyone has a preconceived notion of Bond, and thus reviewers don't always look at the film for what it is.

I read one review that was 100% about the reviewer's feelings about his own masculinity after watching the movie.

Really.

Nothing about the film at all.

She says "it's SO much better then QOS!" with a huge amount of glee on her face. QOS is actually one of the better films of the series. Not smart, Rhianna Dillon, but you are quite cute.

I haven't looked at any reviews, but how many are actually professional
Reviewers ( not that they have any gift for being correct) and how many
are just some guy with a blog  ajb007/lol  who sets themselves up as custodians
of all that's good in film.  ajb007/wink

Most of the reviews are from major British press publications with some Hollywood thrown in (e.g. Variety). Interestingly, most of the negative reviews are from sites nobody has really heard of.

Re: SPECTRE reviews - *SPOILERS*

I had to peek at a couple of reviews.  One of them seemed like it was going to spoil the story so I closed out of it quickly.  General consensus: It's good but not as good as Skyfall.  But then again, that's what they said about QoS and I enjoyed that even more than SF.  I'm going to keep my expectations realistic for Spectre.  Will it be a classic or one of the greatest movies of all time?  Likely not.  But I'm still probably going to love it.

If i see a review titled "Spectre LEAVES YOU SHAKEN BUT NOT STIRRED", i can not take it seriously

Re: SPECTRE reviews - *SPOILERS*

None of the reviews are comparing Spectre to itself, comparing it to other action franchises, or even comparing it to other bonds. They're just comparing it to... Skyfall  ajb007/crap ... if they just compared it to the entire franchise, it has to be in the top 7.

They also are counting off just because it is not as emotional as the last 3. Well maybe it wasn't trying to, ever think of that. We don't need an emotionally driven narrative every time. In fact, the older bonds had action driven narratives, all the way up till OHMSS. And before that they would always hold the emotional stuff right towards the end just to give the finale some extra weight. goldfinger didn't have any emotion compared to Bond movies 1, 2, and 4 - it is the least emotional and the most cheesy of the 4, yet its considered the best one.  I just think they are deducting the movie for all the wrong reasons.   We have evolved into a culture that really likes that emotional stuff, and that was great coming out of the Die Another Day pit but we don't have to rely on it as much. action and rising against the odds is really is the most important thing. Don't cater to the critics

Nice find. Both useful reviews with real points to add to the conversation, especially that first one.

Re: SPECTRE reviews - *SPOILERS*

The Mark Kermode review, is the one I always listen to, I think he's a very honest
Guy.  To hear him give it a glowing review ( saying it's not Skyfall 2 ) that it has
several laugh out loud moments ( Ben Whishaw, getting credit for great comic timing)
Several moments, when he actually jumped.  ajb007/lol  and that the characters are all believable
and we'll rounded, so that you do care about them!
It's just great to hear, can't wait for Monday night.  ajb007/cheers

Re: SPECTRE reviews - *SPOILERS*

Its the 7th best reviewed bond film of all time right now, behind Thunderball which has 85% . I think it should definetely lap up Thunderball - loved thunderball but too much underwater so that it felt like a gimmick compared to the other Terrence Young films.

Mark Kermode is great, he earned himself a subscriber, and his co-host just interview Sam Mendez, Andrew Scott, and Daniel like actual human beings, they don't ask who's gonna replace him (rude) and they don't ask him to pout (incredibly rude)
