Hairstyles

Hi All,

I have not seen many topics covering this so does anyone style their hair like any of the Bonds?

I'm due a haircut soon and am undecided between the Spectre cut or a vintage style like Connery.
With the latest hipster trends it looks like those classic side part styles are being revived.

Fire away!

    I go for a 1980s Moore style but cut to LALD length. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to pull it off, and I may need to go to a shorter QOS look. I Craig's hair looks too short in his other Bond films and makes him look too unsophisticated.

    I go with the Skyfall haircut and let it grow out. Over a month's time it goes from Skyfall to CR to QoS. And now, throughout most of the CR and QoS phase I can manage the Spectre look. It's my frugal Craig/Bond cut. If I let it keep going past a month, with a little self trimming and maintenance, I can get a Connery and Moore style pretty easily. Near the 2 month mark I start to get into Brosnan and Dalton territory. I rarely let it go past 2 months though, and I usually keep it in the one month Craig phase.

    I would highly recommend the QoS look Matt S. That cut is by far my favorite. Before I had my kid, when both my wife and I were working :)) , I would get the QoS cut every 2 weeks. If done right, it is a very sophisticated cut that's not too long or too short. The sideburns on that cut are also unique as they are more naturally rounded and longer than Craig's usual sideburn length, but without being overly long. It takes a good hairstylist to get all the details just right, if you are as detailed obsessed as I can get. Either way, that cut is a great template and is a perfect balance of classic styling with modern, edgy overtones.

    The problem with "James Bond haircuts" is that unless you have the same fineness, texture, thinness or thickness of hair as the actors the haircut just won't look the same on you. And even if you did, is it the best haircut for you based on face shape and hairline?

    I see many Bond fans that get a certain haircut and it looks nothing at all like the actor it's based on, and it just doesn't look right on them. It's similar to when you see over weight gentlemen trying to wear the same clothes as a very in-shape movie star - it doesn't magically transform the wearer into looking as cool or attractive as the star. They'd be far better off trying to be the best version of themselves, because no one will out-Daniel Craig the man himself.

    I know that may seem harsh and critical, but sometimes it's good to get perspective from "outside of the bubble". We often surround ourselves with people that share our opinions and we lose sight of the larger picture. A good example of that is that when I was younger and hung out with a "theatre crowd", I used to wear a fedora and vintage ties from the 40s. My artsy friends all raved about how awesome I looked, and it wasn't until later that I realized that the *vast* majority of people - including prospective employers, girlfriends, or friends - thought I looked like a pretentious idiot. Consider this - those hipsters wearing skin-tight jeans that look like tights (except with a droopy, saggy butt) are surrounded by friends with a similar style all reinforcing how stylish they look and asking why the general public can't see that.

    (A side note - I used to have hair like Brosnan but never wore it like him. When he had long hair, short hair was in style. When he had short hair, longer hair was in style. So I just wore what looked good at the time.)

    Considering how bad Daniel Craig's hairstyle in SF looks on him, I'm sure it must look a lot better on many people here.

    Most of DC's haircuts are really simple and basic and can be pulled off by most with thin hair, just take into consideration that he has a wide face with an angular jawline (like most leading men) and as noted above his hairstyle might not suit your particular face structure.

    Thinking of getting this for my next haircut. In both SF and SP Craig only has his hair styled and parted like this when he's in a tuxedo/dinner jacket for some reason. Wish he kept it like this throughout the films because its very reminiscent of Connery.

    This is the style I have used and it works well. Easy to maintain and versitile. Can work the side part for the office or mess it up a little for a more casual look on the weekends.

    He just has a high hairline, which he's always had, don't think he's balding at all.

    Daniel Craig's hair was definitely the best in QoS. SF was the worst - utterly horrendous.

    I'm currently attempting to grow my hair out at the back and sides, keeping the top medium length to go for the Dalton look in LTK (but not the awful swept back Dracula look he had in the casino scenes).

    Also keeping the sideburns slightly longer too. The only times we have seen this in the films is OHMSS and LTK, which is suprising because I think it looks badass, masculine and evokes Fleming Bond in my mind.

    Something along these lines -

    Good idea jet set. I use to do a frugal optiin where I started with Skyfall and just let it grow until it got to that kind of Dalton length. After doing that for about a year, I realized that the Skyfall look didn't work well on me and the longer Dalton hair didn't suit me either. I found a sweet spot somewhere in between that allowed me to style it into an organized mess that I liked best, got me the most positive female attention, and most importantly, was my wife's favorite look :D. It's all a matter of perspective. -{

    I have to disagree with that. IMO Craig's hair often looked flat and odd in some scenes of QOS, which I just re-watched. I thought his hair looked best in CR and Spectre. I'm wearing mine in the Spectre style.

    Did Fleming's Bond have sideburns? I don't think Dalton's long sideburn's work well with Bond's clean cut and professional persona but it was the 80's after all.

    Not harsh, but spot on. When I brought pics of DC's 007 'do to my barber, he basically said the same thing.

    I don't have much hair to begin with, so the SF-style high taper has been my default look for decades. I've always had DC's fivehead (versus the normal forehead) and straight hair as well, so there aren't many other styles that work. The low taper has been my go-to lately.
    I edit, therefore I am.

    I'm not sure if Fleming's Bond has sideburns or not...its just the cool, rebellious Steve McQueen look of them on Lazenby and Dalton evokes a feeling of a hard edged character.

    It is how I imagine Bond would look from the novels. I much prefer that look to the grey skinhead in SF, which doesn't seem Flemingesque at all, IMO.

    I tend to recall his sideburns being mentioned in a novel, in the same section where he is hungover, and cuts himself shaving and uses a styptic pencil.
    It was either that.....or the priesthood

    Even that is a little longer than my sweet spot, but when life gets busy and I miss going the hairstylist for a week or two it grows out to about a Moore/Brosnan length, like today!

    This is now a week past due, and I don't see a haircut in my near future :)) so, I might be in that Dalton range by the end of it. I usually go to the stylist and use this picture:

    IMG_0759.jpg

    I usually style my hair like that. It makes a good length for mixing and matching. If I'm wearing a CR outfit I can mess it up. If I'm wearing a QoS outfit I can keep it classic. If I'm wearing a Brosnan or Dalton or Moore outfit I can keep it natural, etc... I do agree that you have to find a hairstyle that works for you, as many have mentioned. But, nothing wrong with using Bonds cut as an inspiration, as it's a fairly basic mens cut. -{

    Unless its a Brosnan GE cut, or a Dalton TLD/LTK cut....then it may need a bit more explaining when visiting the barbers.

    Absolutely. The more you bring and the more you explain, the better the cut. I use to bring a picture of Craig from QoS, as that was my favorite for a long time. Even then, the natural sideburns form that movie were hard to express and get the barber to do properly.
