    You hadn't heard....

    SEAN CONNERY IS JAMES BOND!

...at least according to all those old posters!

I'm recalling an interview Sir Sean gave, sometime in the past twenty years or so (probably around the time of Red October), where he said that he tried to avoid wearing hairpieces in roles whenever he could...he said it affected the resonance of his voice :))

Can we identify who and when 007 had a toupee/piece?

Sean in all movies. Black paint and a piece in the first two, a dry, chestnut number in the third. A shorter, flatter darker version in the fourth a longer, redder version in the fifth. A big cake, complete with sideboards in his sixth.

Roger wore a bald spot piece in his last three.

Tim had help at the front.

So did Pierce in his last two.

As Daniel had in his first two.

What's the course for this information? For instance, how do we know that Daniel Craig wore a wig or toupee?

By the way, wearing either is not unusual even if an actor has a full head of hair. It can cut down on the time it takes to ready the actor, especially if the hairstyle is complex, and it can also help with continuity when scenes that are supposed to be close to each other in film time are actual photographed many months apart from each other.

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying...

I thought I read somewhere that Craig had his receding triangles filled in for CR and QOS.

No, this is incorrect. Black paint and hair thickener in the first two- the rug doesn't show up till GF.

Yes I always thought Connery's wigs started in Goldfinger.

Regards Roger, it was only recently I noticed the hair piece, specifically in Octopussy when he is by the pool at his hotel, I think when checking in or could be when talking to Magda- much more subtle than Connery's though.

This thread is so old, it can be updated to nitpick Craig's follicular defiencies!

For instance, I tuned into the Brit series Ripper Street the other day and was amazed to see Craig in it, starring alongside Matthew Macfayden. You can see Craig's hair had clearly receded, and this was a few years back, so he's obv had some work done.

    uktv-ripper-street-episode-2-8.jpg

Otherwise, it was the same piercing blue eyes, face in need of a microdermabrasion, wonky nose. Voice very off though, not like Craig at all.

Later I realised it wasn't Craig at all, but another of his lookalikes - Soldier Soldier actor Jerome Flynne. :s

This photo of Sir Roger is a little suspect, note the two different colors of his hair.

Moore had help, but hair can also be dyed different colours. It's not unusual to highlight the top.

Sir Rog never wore a full wig in any of his Bond movies, though as Matt S says he did have a lot of help with his hair (mainly thickeners and colouring as well as some very careful camera angles and styling). There's an old story of how Mike Reid (yes, that Mike Reid for older UK readers) was once hired (pre-Bond- The Saint or The Persuaders!) to double for Moore and got fired for laughing at how thin Moore's hair was- which is ironic, since even at nearly 90 Sir Roger has more hair than Reid died with at 67.
Moore's thinning hair wasn't apparent in LALD or TMWTGG, and wasn't too noticeable in TSWLM (on set, anyway). It isn't until MR that the hairstylists had to begin to work really hard, and on FYEO he reverted to his 60s style- no parting and brushed straight back- and this would continue through OP and AVTAK. This restyling aided in covering a growing bald spot to the left of his crown, and apparently a small "hair appliance" was needed in his last 2 Bond movies. In AVTAK his hair does look particularly carefully arranged, although not technically false (like Connery's).
Moore's hair has become really thin in the last few years, after major health problems which I won't go into, but for a man of his age he's doing just fine in the hair department.

I'm sure it would be a lot easier today. I wouldn't be surprised if a balding Bond actor was ordered to purchase some Rogaine today.

Moore had really nice hair in the Saint, so I have to wonder if that's a bit of urban legend. Given that he was the oldest Bond though, it makes sense he dealt with some hair loss given his age. Either way, he always looked good in some during the films.

The biggest change in Moore's hair came between MR and FYEO. I would have thought his hair appliance was added in FYEO. His hair got a lot more height in that film.

He definitely had his Saint hairstyle in the last three Bonds he did. Except, the products were shinier on The Saint- maybe pomades as opposed to sprays. Also, in some episodes, his neck was more tapered than the longer blocked look he had as 007.

His hair was also much thicker and abundant in the Saint.

He didn't wear a wig in the volcano-climbing sequence:

    AA_OLD_MAN.jpg
    AA_OLD_MAN_3.jpg

But it's there once he gets inside the volcano. Before that he had been wearing the "Japanese" wig. If you compare the above photos to the one Number 24 posted, you can see the effect of hair-thickeners etc.
Similarly, there are a few scenes in TB where he isn't wearing a wig, primarily due to the large amount of watery locations.
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,618MI6 Agent
You can also see Connery un-wigged ( that would be something for the glossary :D ) when he dives down when the Volcano explodes.

Barbel, I am amazed about your profound knowledge regarding hairpieces and stuff?
