I need to get my hands on the re-mastered Blu Ray of OHMSS and watch it straight through...it's been awhile since I have seen it all the way through. Actually, I'd really love to see it again in a proper theater. Last month, one of the local independent cinemas had a mini Bondfest, featuring 4K DCP's of FRWL and Goldfinger. I would love to see a 4K DCP of OHMSS with the remastered/remixed multi channel soundtrack. It would be the perfect way to revisit that film and reform my opinion of it.
I read On Her Majesties Secret Service before I saw the film. I was so surprised how like the book the film was. They even included the avalanche sequence. I do remember the fireworks going off above Piz Gloria as he escaped in the book.

I almost agree completely. I hated it when I was a kid, but I've just bought the Bond 50 Blu-Ray set and watched OHMSS this afternoon, and it has grown on me immensely. Not quite top 3 material, but it has certainly moved quite dramatically up my list.
Savalas was definately a different take on Blofeld than the other incarnations. Definately more hands-on. Until the Craig films, continuity was not a strong point of the Bond films....I just consider it part of the charm of the older films.

Yes, I agree that Telly Savalas was the best Blofeld by a long shot - more faithful to the novels version than any other, though that wouldn't be difficult admittedly! )

You could have a chat over a Glass of Scotch with Savalas's Blofeld, more then you could with Pleasence's or Grey's Portrayals -{

DAF most likely would have been quite a different film if Lazenby had returned. For the most part, DAF was a Roger Moore film with Connery as Bond. If DAF did have the same script, only with Lazenby, it would have been a huge disaster IMO. Connery was good enough to pull off that type of material, but for Lazenby it would have been awful; like a bad Bond parody.
I find DAF awful but absolutely love the book. Its not just the old ageing Connery thing either, the film on the whole is a bit dull for me (especially location wise when it should be quite spectacular in theory)
The lead lady and of course Kidd and Wint are excellent but I can't stand Blofeld in this one. I think they really blew this one script wise.
I actually rate it as prob the worst of the EON series, prefer AVTAK anyday !!

Yes, that's pretty accurate. And broadshoulder's comment is right, too- they wanted another Goldfinger : Connery, Hamilton, Maibaum, Bassey... and as AOS hints, originally Frobe too.

Yes, it was. Lazenby quit in late 1969. Richard Maibaum began work on the DAF script in June 1970.
