Do you have a link? It's one of my biggest mysteries of Bond, the plausibility of the stunt, and I don't believe any of the docs discuss it. I've tried looking up on google but haven't found anything concrete

yes a doc here in Germany has discussed it

TMWTGG is the worst - the longest up to that point and totally boring. Also it makes the climax of the film boring as we've seen it all before.

LTK: Why do so many people think that Dalton is flapping his arms like Jaws trying to fly? It is obvious he is motioning to a crew member on the helicopter to lower the cable he is suspended from.

    .

I always liked the opening but felt the climax was kind of flat. Never put the two together like that but now it makes sense.

My vote for worst would be AVTAK. It was at a time a sequence I really enjoyed, but that was when I had only seen a handful of the films. Now it feels like just a poor excuse for a ski scene following much better ones in earlier films. Not crazy about TLD either.

I loved seeing the familiar setting at the end, and it's a great plot device to start and end the story with the same thing. The fun house is such an intriguing place, and the repetition with a different outcome made for a great ending.

It's basically a new take on the PTS of FRWL, setting up the ordeal Bond will have to
    face later in the movie.

Yes, but in FRWL we get a different location and henceforth it is tense and original whereas in TMWTGG we get a repeat sequence totally void of any suspense.

There's one thing that I like about TMWTGG - the idea it's the same gangster from DAF. Don't know why it changes it, but I love seeing small characters from previous films return for small roles in following films.

Disagree- we're taken to an exotic location

    AA_OLD_MAN_3.jpg

and introduced to off-beat characters (weirdly motivated midget Nick Nack, clearly unhappy Andrea, Scaramanga- CHRISTOPHER bleedin' LEE!!!) then thoroughly bamboozled by a hitman, animatronic gangsters & cowboys, swiveling mirrors, a golden gun) and then a climax when Lee "shoots" James Bond. All to John Barry music.

What's not to like? Yes, it comes up again at the climax (the PTS is foreshadowing) but the clear intention is to raise the tension levels since we've seen how this has come out before.

I agree with Barbel. The only problem is that the final encounter doesn't meet up to the promise the intro delivered.

Nick Nack is a like a character from The Beano.
The gangster is as scary as Widow Twankey.
The Funhouse looks as cheap as a fairground Ghost Train ride.
John Barry's score is his worst ever - sounds like he phoned it in without even seeing the movie.
I think the phrase raising the tension cannot be attributed to any sequence in TMWTGG (maybe the cloud covering the sun sequence could be considered mildly tense to be fair)

Yes, Chris Lee and Maud Adams are good and the location is great but a PTS needs JB to kickstart any Bond movie.

We must agree to disagree on this one :)

LTK also sucks in my view, though the last Batman paid homage to it, or rather did it better.

Ah so Batman copies Bond :)

I had heard originally the pre title sequence for LALD was to involve the Rome mission we hear about later from M. I can't find anymore details online about it but it was apparently to involve Bond fighting enemies on top of a skyscraper rooftop garden.

From mi6 trivia on LALD :
" The most noticeable loss was of an opening scene in which James Bond (Roger Moore) was to have met an old man in a garden at night. The man was to have handed over a pair of special contact lenses. They are disturbed by the approach of enemy agents and Bond tries to help the man escape by assisting him over a high wall that surrounds the garden. But too late, Bond discovers that the garden is in fact on the top of a very high building and his contact falls to his death. Actor Michael Sheard was cast as the man, but the scene was never filmed"

GoldenEye and Diamonds are Forever - cheap, shoddy and embarrassing. They kind of make you temporarily pretend not to like James Bond films.

Intresting, somehow never came across this little tidbit of info before. I probably would name the PTS of LALD as it is in the movie now as one of the weaker ones in the series.

It's a difficult question though to think which PTS is the actual weakest or worst in the series, they're honestly all pretty good. The Brosnan movies for instance might not be among the most loved ones, but I honestly feel all four PTS's are pretty badass. I for one liked the TMWTGG one too. I guess in without being to much aware of it the LALD one is among one of the weakest in my oppinion. AVTAK's one has the unfortunate Beach boys song, but the rest is pretty good. And always hated Connery's sped up voice in DAF's PTS. (look at the trailer, you'll see it in regular speed.)

Diamonds Are Forever - Trash, and totally cheap and comedic. I can't understand how this can come after the near perfect OHMSS. It just makes no sense, Bond walking around in three different countries using two dummies as a punching bag, then almost chocking an obviously guilty girl. It was just over the top, and silly. The part where the so called 'Blofeld' burns to his death in hot boiling mud is cringeworthy. I cannot enjoy this movie at all, the Bond girls suck, the acting is terrible, Leiter was rubbish, the locations were 'meh' and the finale was just an abomination. Connery & Brosnan got the worst final episodes, no doubt.
