Walther P99 firing blanks

Found this awesome looking Walther P99 blank firing replica. I don't know if it's really legal in the UK, but just how illegal could it be? Don't mind a fine, just don't want to go to jail because of it.

What do you people think?

Well blank firers are legal in the UK
Just obviously not allowed to take them in a public area (basically outside)
Thats a very nice gun however, I might consider getting it

But beware, the government is planning a new bill which will outlaw replica guns in the UK, period. Expect it to be put forward at the Commons some time in the summer...

Personally after seeing a late night program about the rise in gun crime in Britain, I'd stay away from such a purchase. As Moonie says, the laws are liable to change soon.

I have a Walther P99 BB gun and thats bad enough, especially as on the aforementioned program it stated that bb guns can be converted from being a bb gun to a live firing gun for as little as £30 on the black market. Hence the Government's crack down on replica guns.
So I'd be very careful if I were you.

Thanks for your answers people. I might go for the classic, less expensive Walther on the site, and then throw it away if it becomes illegal :)

As long as you don't take it outside, or brandish it out the window. I think you would be fine.

A blank firing PAK P99 requires a Section 5 Firearms licence in the UK. You will go to jail for trying to import one into the Country. So don't.

I can't find any information saying you need a license for a blank firer. Everywhere says there are proposals to ban blank firers which can be converted, but ones which cannot be converted seem fine. I am by no means sure about this but I can't find any information to the contrary.

The reason you need a firearms license is that the P99 have a forward firing exhaust for the round and the legal blank firers must have a fully blocked and non-unblockable barrel so the exhaust gasses fire upwards and not fowards believe me I own quite a few of them and walther never made an official upwards firing version of the P99.

    Exactly, nicely put.

    Go for airsoft or co2
  • Savior SephrothSavior Sephroth Posts: 5MI6 Agent
You Can't have as much fun with a co2 or bb version,
The feel of the recoil and round being ejected it's almost sexual and gives you a feeling of POWER Mwa Ha Ha Ha!!

Umarex made a P99 James bond under Walther's licence
It's a 9 mm blank fire gun. With a moderator. I do not like that gun.
I prefer the P22 or the PPK.
It's a collectable gun (number one of one thousand)
And.. yes it's not made by Walter, but by Umarex, another German gun maker. It's absolutely not convertible.

its (apparently) easy to convert a blank firing gun into a live round firing weapon, however, it is impossible to adapt a spring loaded or a C02 powered BB Gun so it can take live rounds.

There is a new bill coming up in Parliment, mainly because of the rise in gun crime in the UK, but I don't know what restrictions it puts on Replicas,

I know guns that fire blanks need a licence, so I would never buy one, however I don't know how spring loaded or gas powered BB guns fit into this new bill.

don't know if the house of lords would pass it though, there all Gun Totting, Country estate owners anyway. we already got rid of their fox hunting, now they won't be able to fire guns on their own property, the shame.

A total ban on sales and imports as I understand it. That includes any and all replica firearms. Cap guns, BB guns, spud guns, water pistols. If it could be 'misidentified' as a real firearm, it'll be banned.

You'll be able to own one, just not import.

So, the market will dry up.

Pity is the market will never dry up...
    But prices will grow up.

Your speech about the actual blank fire law is a bit made up you imagination.
Blank are still freely sold, make a tour on the UK Internet you'll find lotta respectable vendors selling blank fire guns.
The socialist proposition is not yet accepted, it's more a political stunt far away from the reality of gun murderer.
Deactivated and "real" blank fire guns CAN NOT be adapted to fire live ammunition's. Some old deactivated weapons or east manufactured gun were easy to be converted, but very rare nowadays.

Have a talk with your local gun dealer, he will explain you the real story.

And yes it's a pity not for the "rich" (fox hunting people) bur for all girls and boys who like paintball and BB guns. Anyway if T, Blair get the votes we will go on the continent to have fun.
And beware, after guns he could make a law to ban electric guitars and rock and roll.... lol
  • SolarisSolaris Blackpool, UKPosts: 308MI6 Agent
Blair would never ban rock and roll or guitars, to get into number 10 he met with Oasis and blur, and brought a guitar into number 10 with him xD

So we're allowed to own replicas but not import them, right.
