Y'know, DC...had the producers taken the grittier approach when they had Brosnan in the cockpit and hired quality writing teams...Brozzy could've superseded Connery IMO.

    Right approach...just the wrong Bond.

"Purvis & Wade have already started the NEXT script". ????? Think they'll remember Q & Moneypenny this time?

[Reading this on 28th Feb 2019-: they didn't, and as we all know the script for QoS wasn't finished when shooting started.]

Well, for me that's the point. I think, he may be OK. But that doesn't change the fact, that others could have been better for the same script and the same direction and foremost fitted to the role a better than him.

Bearing in mind this film is set before Dr No. Can you just imagine craig morphing into Connery !?

Oh please, someone give me a transcript, a video, SOMETHING! This has to be the funniest cinematic execution of something since Joel Schumacher got Batman!

I hope you are right and once again i want to say i really like Daniel Craig as an actor, especially in Layer Cake - but even as a grittier bond (i think Owen would have been better) i just cannot see him in the role - AT ALL.

    Please don't dissapoint me Daniel!!!!

This actually might be the first time I don't want to urge into the cinema within the first two weeks after the premiere to see a Bond movie.

    I feel so...cheated...

This truely is a dark day for Bond (but not his hair!)

Well said there Brosnan is the male swan of the series. I would love to see brosnan pictured next to Craig.

For Goodness Sakes Craig looks like the bad guy !

What's the journalist who asked about Kate Moss on.

He's just landed one of the biggest roles in movies and she wants to know about something entirely different.

IMHO, I don't think this is a good choice but I hope to be proved wrong.

I'm getting a very negative vibe on this board with the announcement of Craig which is a shame.

He certainly wasn't my first choice ( or my 2nd,3rd or 4th for that matter) but he is Eon/Sony's choice. He will be in CR whether we like it or not, so lets get behind it and support him.

He may be a little different from the other 5 but it sounds like we may get a grittier film after all.

I spent way too long pontificating over who would be Bond, and a lot it good it did me! Craig came from left field so I am not going to bother trying to work out the rest of the film.

What we do know is, we have a film, we have a director, we have a script and we now have a Bond.
CR is on its way and I am going to wait till then to see how Craig does.

Lets turn this round and be a bit more positive.

i agree - i do think owen would have been a better bond.... but i really think that the producers have tried to be "fashionable" about the choice - they've gone for someone who's "flavour of the month" - rather than who it should be? Don't get me wrong i like Daniel Craig - but like you say just not as bond...

Personally I think we will just have to all wait and see what the film is like. When Pierce Brosnan was cast, it was Pierce who? I didn't really know the guy and so never had any assumptions or expectations. I think it will be important to take this stand with Daniel. When the film is released, watch it with an open mind. If you watch it with negative thoughts then you will have already made up your mind.

From the comments made in the interview, it should be an interesting film indeed! Bring it on!

I think it's a natural human response to feel dejected to news like this especially since this wasn't particularly handled with appropiate protocol but I plan on giving Craig a chance...just reluctantly...very...reluctantly...

What is wrong with you guys?

Like many, I was devastated when I heard Pierce Brosnan would no longer be Bond. In fact, that's why I've not been around in ages.

But the ONE actor out of all the names mentioned that I thought would make a great Bond is Daniel Craig. He was the only choice I'd accept to follow Brosnan. And we got him!

So I finally come back, expecting everyone to be oberjoyed with the choice. But instead I find everyone moaning about it?

Daniel Craig is an excellent character. And rather than looking like some suave ladykiller who's never been in a fight in his life (take a bow, Mr Moore) he actually has a grittier edge. He has an undeniable charisma, but by looking in his cold eyes you could probably believe that he is what Bond ultimately is - a killer.

Usually I'm most interested in the Bond villains, but by casting an actor I'm already a big fan of as James Bond, he's become the character I'm most interested in for Bond 21. At long last, I'm excited about James Bond, about seeing him in a new way. And isn't that the aim of this new film?

Despite Craig's looks -I really do think he will supply a 007 that will give the Bourne movies a really good run for their money. Which lets face it we all want to see the Bond franchise take back its crown in terms of action and spy flicks.

Interestingly on BBC News 24 they have just stated that CR will not have either Q or Moneypenny in it. I wonder if this will change?

Anyway Craig it is and may his two or three films give the audiences what they crave. - A damn good tale that has the right balance of action and intrigue.

A thought came to me earlier. Note that Craig has been announced now -and that the film will be grittier and less gadget laiden - on top of this we have got the FRWL game coming out before the end of the month -a game that is based on a film that is a grittier and more espionage type of tale. Could this be a good marketing ploy? Readying a new generation for much more character driven plots? hmmm perhaps I'm thinking too much.

Anyway I realise that there are those of you out there that are unhappy about Craig's appointment -but lets try and be mature about it and not prejudge too much -Let's see how he does -after all gambling is associated with 007 and this may be a gamble that really works and not one where EON lose their shirt, tux and bow-tie.

I'm sorry to say but with the pictures i've seen of him he looks more like a Dr. Who and not a suave spy. It's like haveing Woody Allen play bond.

I'd personally say that IF "Casino Royale" is planned out to be a more grittier and "realistic" spy movie, (a la Bourne Identity etc) THEN Craig MIGHT work as 007. Here's why:

Daniel Craig doesn't look really like a male model, he looks more "real" in the sense that he could actually exist. Brosnan's facial features are so symmetrically perfect that he looks more like a fantasy character than an actual person... As bizarre as that sounds. Now I'm not saying that Craig wouldn't have charm, but he certainly looks more "roughed up by life" than Pierce ever did. This could work for Casino Royale's potentially more realistic take.

BUT: If "Casino Royale" will be just another Bond movie along the lines of DAD... then i think the franchise is truly in trouble. The public already recognizes Brosnan as Bond and pretty much likes the man as well. Sure, Pierce's movies could've been far better, especially the latest ones. But Brosnan himself has been very popular as 007. His movies also have made serious money for EON, so it's obviously a big risk not to have him on board.

Now that EON has confirmed Craig as Bond, i truly hope they will also try the more "realistic approach". It might not make that much money as DAD did, but it could certainly be a better film. The popcorn audience will probably turn their backs on it, but the hardcore Bond fans and spy-fans could appreciate it. Though Sony's involvement in all of this does sound a bit scary... i guess we'll just have to wait and see.

As to me: Who would've i liked to have seen as 007? Well, Pierce Brosnan. I think he deserved to leave the role with a better movie than Die Another Day.

Oh, I DO hope, otherwise this will be just another movie... I mean if I want to watch a Bourne movie, I go watch one... But usually I don't. ;)

Craig is proving to be an inspired and popular choice, all of 8% of the people on CNN.com think he is a good choice.
