    Goldfinger with the laser, Die Another Day, Licence to Kill with the coke grinder, For Your Eyes Only when he's being draged through shark infested water.

    GF, the laser table. Goldfinger had him, and almost had him killed anyways (even when Bond warned him 008 knew eevrything and would resume the mission). If it had gone even the slightest bit differently, Goldfinger would have been the 3rd - and final - Bond movie.

    I would say the coffin scene in DAF. If Shady Tree and Morton slumber didn't need Bond alive to get the real diamonds, he'd be toast...literally. :))

    The cremation was definitely close. I also think he was close to being a goner when he was trying to defuse the nuclear bomb in GF. He had no clue how to stop it, and nowhere to run.

    First post in these forums. Have always loved the James Bond movie series.

    I think that Bond came closest to death in GoldFinger as some people have already said. He could easily have been sliced in two in that movie...

    As already mentioned by some in here, I'd have to say the cremation bit in DAF myself. Along with the two laser scenes in GF and DAD, the coke shredder in LTK, and perhaps in AVTAK when he was holding onto the rope which Zorin's blimp was attached to (if he'd lost his grip he would've been a goner).

    I'd say in GF and LTK. There always seems to be a need to keep Bond alive. The villains have so many chances to kill him but they never do, and he ends up getting them! In real life, he'd be brown bread long ago!

    The first half wasn't that bad. But the end was indeed an utter disaster.

    Anothr candidate would be DAD, another travesty.

    I think he was closest to dying in Goldeneye when he is in the helicopter with the girl. A few more seconds and it would have been all over for Mr. James Bond.

    The near cremation and being dragged across the coral reef were really close too.

    My vote would be for the cremation, followed by the the laser. However since they have already been taken, I will nominate the final scene involving Xenia in GE, in which Bond was facing the distinct possibility of being squeezed to death. (Not necessarily a horrible way to go. ;))

    In the standoff scene in TMWTGG, all Scaramanga had to do was be unsportsmanlike and turn around to shoot 007 in the back of the head. I mean it's not the manliest way to do it, but at least you'd get rid of Bond, and prevent your own immediate death.

    Umm Moonraker was one of the most successful films (fiancially) of the whole series. It would have taken miracle for there not to have been another film in its wake. Also, it's a great Bond movie; haters begone. In actuality I think the closest the franchise ever came to being canceled was following the Dalton era.

    In the spirit of what the original poster was asking I will cite the close calls Bond escaped from in FRWL (Grant had him right where he wanted him and could have easily finished the job were it not for Bond's quick thinking and coolness under pressure in what just might be the best scene in any Bond film), Domino shooting Largo right as he pulled a gun on Bond, and when Tracey saved his a$$ on the ice rink in OHMSS.

    I agree about FRWL and TB, but why do you think that Bond was closest to death in the ice rink scene in OHMSS?

    I would have to go with the Laser Scene in GF.
    What counts is what the heroine provokes, or rather what she represents. She is the one, or rather the love or fear she inspires in the hero , or else the concern he feels for her, who makes him act the way he does.

    Unlikely that Scaramanga would have been tempted. He's already told Bond: "I could have shot you down on the beach but that would have been ridiculously easy."

    I go along with the CR poisoning and the DAF cremation... and also, Bond would have been killed at the FRWL gypsy fight if it wasn't for the good marksmanship of Grant, his SPECTRE "guardian angel".

    But for me, Bond died on the day (not on another day) when, in Die Another Day, his lascivious chat-up scene with Jinx by the beach in Cuba turned my stomach. (!!)

    He's all alone on top of an icy mountain surrounded by gunmen. Were it not for Tracy's timely appearance he would have been done. This was on of the very few times in the series that Bond actually looked seriously worried and didn't know what to do.

    How about the plane crash in Goldeneye? His plane is hit by a missile and he crashes into the jungle. I'm suprised he was able to walk away from that one, albeit after a bit of a sleep under the jungle canopy with Natalya!
