would make just as good a Bond, if the cover of the new Empire magazine is anything to go by!

Reinvention isn't the word!

Once again, Craig often looks terrible in his pictures, and this is certainly one of them. Plus, is he making a Bond film or a movie about Al Capone?

Cool cover- looking forward to a read. Seems like they have a fair bit of content.

Ditto. I'd just posted a longer opinion of that pic but in the interest of maintaining the ceasefire I'll just bite my lip and follow Barry's advice instead.

But I do have one question: who is Old Man Steptoe?

I have to say that is a dreadful picture and on the cover of one of the biggest movie magazines too. He really isn't very photogenic is he ? :(

Think Stanford and Son only the original was a bit grimier.

    EDIT: Sorry; Sanford and Son.

Well I'm quite aware of what he looks like now; I'm surprised so many aren't. I do wonder why they did this photoshoot outside- it was up against a backdrop but in daylight. Odd.

So the old 'face' chestnuts are dropping again, but where's the 'bad PR'/ 'no-one cares about this film' crowd?

Ok, not the best pic of 'our man', but I will be buying the magazine, and great publicity to have something as good as a picture on the front cover. I doubt the fact that people who have made up their mind to see this film will be put off, simply because of how Craig looks on this cover.

I sometimes wonder if this whole Craig affair is just a bad dream. Stuff like this simply reinforces the feeling.

Wilfred Brambell is James Bond !!!

These images of Craig are actually demeaning to the actor. In the teaser trailer, his final shot at the casino table with that weird smirk and bowl haircut made him look like he just had a lobotomy. Now, with this cover photo, he's back to looking like (as others have suggested a while back) Vladimir Putin.

I think you could cut some slack here em. Even as a Craig supporter I can see this isn't the greatest pic and Hardy is right, it does look like he's in The Untouchables or something.

Craig looks a lot better on screen than in photos and I just hope this isn't a problem, but if they continue to put shots like this on front covers of high profile movie mags, it could well be.
  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,707MI6 Agent
That's what I'm saying - it's an oddly staged photograph; there aren't many mags that would use non-studio shots of this nature for the cover. I don't think it's the greatest shot of his but the pose is fairly impactful and also new so I expect that's why they went with it.
And CR on the front of Empire magazine isn't exactly the worse news this film could have.

And they will be getting my money the minute its on the shelves. ;)

I like Empire and they are generally quite positive when it comes to Bond so I'm sure it will be full of good stuff and much better shots.

True- although the presence of yet another Star Wars feature puts me off slightly! They do one every month it feels like!

Agreed but at least they tend to ignore Posh and Becks which is a bonus :p

I'm sure some of the pics inside will be a lot better than the one on the cover. Its just a shame that the cover is what people will see regardless whether they buy the magazine or not.

I know this may not exactly fit within the scope of the topic and has been discussed before but does anyone know who is providing DC's suits for CR? I know he wore Brioni at the press conference introducing him and that he personally favors Kilgour but I'm not sure who's outfitting him for this film.

It's a rough-looking picture of his face, no doubt about it---taken in what's obviously bright sunshine, which catches every crevasse and wrinkle because of the angle from which the shot was taken.

My first guess would be that AKB46 has finally made a successful infiltration of the British magazine industry :))

"This just in, from a leading British entertainment magazine: Actor Daniel Craig, who has been cast as the new James Bond for 'Casino Royale,' due for release this November, is not as good-looking as previous actors who have performed the role! Moreover, it appears that he isn't getting any more handsome as the production wraps! A spokesman for Eon has denied comment on these latest developments.

Good one, Loeffs. And, Barry, those are very Bondish pictures. He certainly could've done one more. Either way, I think it is just a bad picture of poor Dan, he's has better ones.

Ol' Brozzer looks great in that shot...no doubt about it. He could have done another.

Instead, he went out on top---with his fans wanting more; clearly the classy alternative. If only all Bond actors had done the same {[]

Someone on another board did ask Brioni and they told him they were supplying Bond's outfits for this film.

Its really interesting how other forums saw this cover and made comments such as "cool cover, I'm picking it up for that" and "Craig looks the business", yet here, its negativity or sarcasm all the way. I personally don't like the picture, and I'm not criticising anyone here, I just think its interesting how that always seems to be the case.

Loeffs I think you make a good point that Pierce went out on top. I also think EON could have handled the switch to a new Bond way better. If they had, some of the animosity that Brosnan's fans have and may be projecting onto Craig wouldn't exist.

I would have liked to have seen Pierce do one more with the understanding it was his last go as Bond. The movie could have been released last year and then EON could introduce a new 007 in 2007. P&W supposedly had a script ready for the next Brosnan Bond movie, which was dumped in favor of doing CR. Had EON been functioning on all cylinders I think they could have pulled it off. Then I would have had one more Brosnan Bond and Blue would have had Craig in 2007 and we would all be one big happy family. :D
  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,707MI6 Agent
Reminds me of when someone on here said they'd have wanted Bros to do one more; I said it's good to go out leaving them wanting more and they said 'yeah; that is good, but I'd have preferred him to do another'- I had to point out that that is leaving them wanting more! :))
  • steelydan3steelydan3 Posts: 65MI6 Agent
I think Pierce did go out on a fairly high note, however, it's unforunate the last few Bonds-Pierce, Timothy and Roger have all went out with a movie that most critics and fans call their worse. Unforunately for the actors, I assume they had maybe a sneaking suspicion they might at least do one more. Hopefully, when it comes to Danny's turn to hang up his gun and holster, he'll go out on a high note. Going back on topic, when is the mag out?
