Did anyone else catch Daniel Craig on the "Today" show this morning? I decided to skip my first class this morning to watch it (You can see what my priorities are until November 17th). Craig talked about the usual subjects. He's excited to be doing three films. The highlight of the interview was a sneak peak at a scene featuring Daniel Craig and new Bond beauty Eva Green. As I know many of you are trying your best to dodge any information about the film prior to its release, I'll treat it as a spoiler.
In the scene Bond and Vesper are in the hotel getting ready to go to the casino. Vesper is in the bathroom looking into the mirror when Bond walks in. Bond tells her that she needs to look fabulous so when she walks up behind him and kisses him on the neck, the other players will be more concentrated on her than their cards. Vesper then playfully replies that she'll do her best or something to that effect. It was a really nice scene.

The Sony Viao TV ad is airing heavily now - it's basically a TV spot for the film, only with the Viao logo visible every now and then, set to YKMN.
And it is getting heavy rotation on the LCD London Underground advertising boards ... in fact London seemed pretty plastered with CR promo material yesterday (compared to other films). I was particularly taken by the high visibility of CR hoardings in and around the Vauxhall area!
The CR promotion is in top gear. I don't seem to be able to turn on the TV or a paper these days and Bond doesn't get a mention.
Daniel Craig is on Parkinson this Saturday, 11th Nov at 10.30 on ITV. This will be the first time I will have seen him in what I call a proper interview. I will be very interested to see how he does.
Oh, there's publicity, alright. . .in the last few days I've lost count of the commercials I've seen both for CR and for the Ultimate Bond DVD set. Plus, if you go to sites like Rotten Tomatoes and the AOL main page you'll see CR ads and blurbs; and there was even an ad for CR inside the flap of one of my Netflix mailings. I even saw the novel on display in a bookstore--it's the same U.S. Penguin edition from a couple of years ago, only pocket-sized and with a little sunburst reading "Now a Major Motion Picture!" (or something like that). If CR isn't a hit, you can't say it's because people don't know about it!
Remember those days when the complaint was EON wasn't doing any publicity for Craig/CR? CR's release may not be quite the event the first four films were, but it's easily the biggest near-event Bond release since TSWLM, I I'd say it tops that film's hoopdidoo.
Has EON misstepped with CR at all? Not talking Bond fans here, who have decided opinions about Craig/reboot/etc., but in terms of making a (looks to be) hit movie...just hard to imagine a rosier week leading up to CR's release.
And, gotta say I'm particularly glad EON didn't get into a tabloid war over Craig back when he was getting trashed, that would've made the negativity that much more in focus IMO. Has any of the reviews so far even mentioned the casting backlash? It's all apparently evaporated in the heat of how good (apparently) Craig/CR is. Best defense is a good offense, and all that.

Remember those days when the complaint was EON wasn't doing any publicity for Craig/CR? CR's release may not be quite the event the first four films were, but it's easily the biggest near-event Bond release since TSWLM, I I'd say it tops that film's hoopdidoo.
Has EON misstepped with CR at all? Not talking Bond fans here, who have decided opinions about Craig/reboot/etc., but in terms of making a (looks to be) hit movie...just hard to imagine a rosier week leading up to CR's release.
And, gotta say I'm particularly glad EON didn't get into a tabloid war over Craig back when he was getting trashed, that would've made the negativity that much more in focus IMO. Has any of the reviews so far even mentioned the casting backlash? It's all apparently evaporated in the heat of how good (apparently) Craig/CR is. Best defense is a good offense, and all that.
That's a good point, Blue. It did seem inexplicable at the time that Eon was just taking the punches about Craig without responding, almost like throwing their guy to the wolves. Some, if I recall correctly, even suggested Eon's silence was a sign of their having second thoughts. In retrospect, I think they must have really believed they had a winner with both the film and the actor that could speak for itself.
I think that once audiences get to see the film, the publicity will be unnecessary. Word-of-mouth ought to sell it nicely.
I never wanted EON to strike back, there's just no winning a tabloid war/smear campaign, especially about something that's a hypothetical. Gotta have something tangible, and just let it speak for itself. Or in Craig's/CR's case, let the critics speak for it. Critics trump tabloids, every time. :007)
I was one of those who was complaining at Sony/Eon's lack of publicity. It was more to do with Daniel Craig than Casino Royale. My belief at the time (approx Dec 05 - Jan 06) was that they should get Craig to do a couple of major chat show interviews in the UK and US. My reasoning being that if Craig came across well in those interviews a lot of the negativity surrounding him would have been blown away overnight.
In reality, Craig did not appear until early March when he did all those on set interviews in the Bahamas. That was a clear turning point for him. He came across very well to me and many others. And I was (not nearly as much now) one of the real Craig doubters. I was never anti-Craig, I was (still might be) more anti-Broccoli/Wilson for dispensing with Pierce Brosnan and re-booting the franchise.
As it now seems, those extra couple of months without Craig in public view have probably made little difference in the long run. But I can't help believing that he should have appeared earlier.
Interesting point about the reboot, MNL. I was actually expecting something like that back when GE came out: I thought (back then) they had the perfect Bond for it, and I had been so disappointed with how Cubby had handled Bond in the 70s and 80s. I really wanted a "new" Bond...but got what felt like a warmed-over version of what I'd been getting the past couple decades. There's been a lot I have liked about Moore/Dalton/Brosnan Bond, but I kept waiting for...well, a return back to the "old" Bond I guess--not token bits and bobs and the odd peck on the cheek, but a full-scale 100% sloppy-kiss embrace.
If what we're getting now is what we can expect in the post-Cubby world (and I really think CR is the first Bond film to be that, his legacy wasn't to be tampered with lightly, for many reasons), then it seems to be in good hands. (And hopefully I'll like it. )

Popped to the supermarket- CR cover on The Sun (due to their poker game) and right on the front of the kiosk was a whopping ad for the CR Lottery scratchcards. Bond's becoming pretty inescapable here.
This might have been covered elsewhere, and if that's the case, sorry to bring it up again. Wasn't Craig supposed to appear on David Letterman last night (Nov. 7th)? I tuned in only to see the names of some other guests being announced, so I didn't watch the show. Was DC's appearance postponed or canceled?

It's happening this Friday (10 November)...I think Craig was pushed back because the 7th was election day in the States, and nobody would have seen the show.
