Your favourite lines from Casino Royale

Well I saw it last night for the first time (and definitely not the last). But all the way back me and my mates were talking about our favourite lines from the movie - there were lots. So I just wondered what everyone else liked and whether we all liked some of the same ones.

007: Vodka Martini
Barman: Shaken or Stirred?
007: Do I look like I care?

*Vesper comes kisses him*
*turns back to the table*
007: Oh sorry what was the bet?

Well those are two of my favs and I forbid the post of "Bond, James Bond,". :D Other wise it will be in every post and I know we all loved it anyway. :D
Relax darling, I'm on top of the situation -{

M: "How did you find out where I live?"

Bond: The same way I found out your name. I always thought 'M' was some randomly assisgned letter, I had no idea it stood for M...."

M: "Utter one more Syllable and I'll have you killed"

Bond: (Returning to the Casino after his poison-induced heart attack) "Sorry about that. That last hand hearly killed me..."

    And of course

Bond "Mr White? We need to talk..."

    White: "Who is this?"
(Sound of silenced Heckler & Koch MP5 thuds into White's leg)

Bond: "The name's Bond...... James Bond"

Oh and Felix, if you're going to to use that line as your signature my dear, I suggest you amend it to the ACTUAL reply, which is "Do I look like I give a damn?"

    ;)

I liked M's line as she left the Cabinet meeting: "Christ, I miss the Cold War!"

Then there's "Everyone will know you died scratching--" Oh, but I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet! :007)

    Vesper: "How was your lamb?"
    Bond: "Skewered."

Bond to Vesper after a particularly difficult time at the card table:
    -- "Are you all right?"

Bond to Vesper in the car:
-- "I'm Mr. Arlington Beach. And you're Miss Stephanie Broadchest ... You're going to have to trust me on this."

Bond to Vesper in the hotel room:
--"But I have a dinner jacket!"

There are just so many of them ...

Bond: "That's because you know what I can do with my little finger"

And you have to see the film to get that line.

My other favourite, was when he gives the barman the recipe for the perfect Vodka Martini (The unique 007 drink) Then everyone at the card table, bar Le Chiffré, orders one...

That got a big laugh in the cinema.

Bond: "I've got a little itch... down there. Do you mind?"

In the face of immense pain having his bullocks whacked and going through physical hell, this defiant line, and Craig's delivery of it, is the defining moment for Craig's Bond.

Yeah -- and what's that line that involved b***s? That got a big laugh.

This isn't a line, but it was pretty funny:

The theater I was in was fairly crowded for an early Friday afternoon. You could hear the usual sounds you'd hear at a movie -- crunching popcorn, occasional cough, whatever.

So Solange appears -- The audience is quiet.

Then LeChiffre's girlfriend -- Same thing: no reaction.

    Then Vesper -- still silence.

Then Bond walks out to Hotel Splendide's parking lot and his new Aston Martin DB5 -- every guy in the theater lets out a collective MMMmmm

See ladies? It's not true we men have just one thing on our minds :))

Haha, yeah. The car seemed much more well loved than the beautiful ladies.

One that I loved was right after he played poorly the first round, he sat back down PO'd and raised Le Chiffre 1 million.

And don't forget the classic line: "I'm sorry. That last hand...nearly killed me."

That one got a big audience reaction.

That's another one. I never thought I'd rave about the dialogue in a Bond movie made after 1965. But CR was just wonderful on that score. And Craig and his co-stars delivered it beautifully.

    How about:
"Your friend Mathis is actually ... my friend Mathis,"
(I don't believe this, by the way -- But we won't know for sure until Bond 22)

"Just because you're dead doesn't mean you can't be helpful."

"Not a word of protest ... you should find another boyfriend."

    "How was the lamb?"

    "Skewered. One sympathizes."

Or the line that got one of the best responses in the theatre:

"If all that was left of you was your smile and your little finger you'd still be more of a man than anyone I've ever met."

"That's because you know what I can do with my little finger."

Every woman in the audience went wild at that one.

I agree with pretty much what has already been said. I was in a quiet sparsly attended 12:30pm theater and most people were quiet. Yep...heard all the car enthusiasts gasp at the beauty of THEE car (sigh, I wish I had one);%

    Loved the shaken not stirred qwuip, and the Vesper all aorund the table thingy, and M on several occasions about Bonds knowledge "how does he know that" r/t the name and password. As usual some great tongue-in-cheek. The script was well executed.-{

    That really made me laugh.

But my favourite was 'Do I look like I give a dam?' ... What a twist on a classic and the audience loved it.

    * Nearly forgot to mention the last line. Super delivery.

As HH said, I cant believe we are all raving about the dialogue and the funny lines are genuinely funny. We have obviously been very poorly served on that front.

I suspect your right about this, since he's still alive at the end and apparantly hasnt been proven guilty
all the betrayals attributed to him could have been done by Vesper, as in the book, and it would serve le Chiffres interests to cover for her and betray Bonds real ally

Two of the best I agree ... had M mentioned dinosaurs somewhere in the first quote, it would have been too far, but this was perfect.

I do find it incredible to have such a great feeling about a Bond film's script since: a) it's been so long since the last really tight script and b) Wade and Purvis had something to do with it.

I am consequently more than willing to eat my words - some fairly nasty ones over the years - about P&W. With Haggis, you delivered a classic Bond script.

cant remember the wording, but the bit where Vesper enters the casino wearing that dress, and Bonds jaw drops and he screws up the next hand
something like "I thought I told you to enter so everyone else would be looking at you?"
cuz this is the first subtle sign shes not onside

the dialog throughout was very good, I especially enjoyed their initial conversation on the train (except for the MoneyPenny pun)
their verbal sparring set up the sexual tension, and revealed a lot of character on both their parts, past and present

    also this bit:
    "youre not my type"
    "you mean smart?" (ouch!)
    "no, single"
Craigs Bond is one eff'd up dude

    "I'm all ears."

    :v :))

{[] I was wondering if that wasn't a sly "in" joke.
The audience chuckled at it, because it was a funny line on it own. But of course, to those of us who have followed the Craig debate in detail, it has a "special" meaning. What do you think?
  • LoeffelholzLoeffelholz The United States, With LovePosts: 8,992Quartermasters
That expression on Craig's face when he said it---smiling, even though he's been poisoned and is near death---makes it a stand-alone masterpiece of a Bond moment for me. But the added Craig Debate context does indeed add something to it :))

"Im Arlington beach, a professional gambler....and your Ms. Stephanie Broadchest...

    I am not...

Your gonna have to trust me on this one..."

    Great scene right there...

I also might add that the men in the audience groaned during that "one scene", but the women just giggled...so glad I left the girls at home.... {[]

It's funny, but when I first heard about that line in the reviews, I couldn't figure out why everyone thought it was so great. It sounded like a clunker to me, because I thought we were going to have to sit through someone, maybe Mathis, explaining to Bond the relative merits of shaking rather than stirring. *yawn*

But coming as it did, when Bond is angry at having lost a fortune -- and it's already established he prefers shaking -- it seemed natural and funny for him to snap at the bartender. Absolutely brilliant.

Precisely. It was so great because it was a natural reaction. 'Shaken, not stirred' and 'Bond,James Bond.' had reached a stage were when they were about to be said, time stood still and they were almost announced, not spoken. Don't get me wrong, I still love those lines but only when used appropriately. That was one reason why I liked Dalton's delivery in TLD.

Its good to have them played with occasionally.
