Representation

For my A-level media project, my friend and I are studying the representation of James Bond girls in James Bond films.

It would be extremely beneficial to us if you took the time to answer a few questions upon the topic.

1. Who's your favourite James Bond feature girl and why?

2. Do you think that James Bond ridicules women and why?

3. Do you think that Bond is forseen to be aggresive and forceful with the Bond girls and why?

4. Do you beleive that the way that Bond girls are portrayed has changed in recent films?

5. Do you beleive James Bonds films are sexiest and/or discriminating against females?

6. Give you full opinion of how you beleive Bond girls are represented in the films giving examples to certain characters.

Thanks in advance, Jess and Tom :D

During my A levels and also for my degree I wrote an essay on gender representation in the Bond films.

I'm not sure how much of it will directly relate to what you need but there maybe some stuff in it that may help.

I can't promise anything as I don't know if i will be able to find it but if I do i'll pm you a copy.

1.) Izabella Scorupco from Goldeneye because she's a smart and complex character.

2.) Connery's Bond ridiculed plenty of woman. Brosnan's Bond is a bit of a chauvinist, but there are strong women to counter balance.

3.) Bond is very agressive towards women. It's part of his emotional detachment.

4.) Yes, not only because the way women view relationships, but because the way men view women. Shallow girls are fun for about 3 seconds.

5.)Yes, but a lot of the sexism is tongue in cheek. Then again, in Goldfinger Connery did smack a girl on the bottom to shoo her away because he had to do some "man talk".

6.) The Bond girls have varied over the years. Ursula Andress could barely speak english, and was basically hired as a hot body. Goldfinger is by far the most sexist. I don't know what's more sexist, the name "Pussy Galore" or the fact that Bond converts her from lesbianism.

A bit has changed since women have left the kitchen. During the 90's you Christmas Jones who was a scientist who helps Bond fight badies. You had Sophie Marceau who manipulates Bond, and then you have the strongest woman in any Bond, Judie Dench as M.

Overall, Bond would not have survived without female characters becoming more developed.

Talk about opening a can of worms! You could write books on this subject; in fact, people have, there are some avilable at most good bookshops (and some bad ones too).

Speaking of Bond in terms of education, I managed to squeeze references into my postgrad marketing exam yesterday, along with Rambo, American Pie, and Lethal Weapon!

    good luck with it,
