Three Cheers For Babs!

I would like to take a moment and praise Barbara B.

Everyone and his brother thought Babs had lost her mind when she hired the rugged-looking Daniel Craig.

Consider this: Craig is absolutely 100% her choice and, as such, we should give her a well-deserved pat on the back.

More than that, look at the circumstances: an unpopular initial choice turns out to be a sensational Bond, CR is respected by the critics and the film is breaking box-office records. The guys think Craig rocks and the ladies...when was the last time a 007 was making the ladies flock to the theater?

Credit Babs for that. Craig seemed right to her as a producer AND as a woman. (Do not underestimate this factor: in 1961, Cubby asks his wife Dana her opinion of rough-diamond Connery. "Thats our Bond" she replies. Like mother, like daughter?)

(Can you imagine Cubby and Harry taking a chance on someone who looks like Craig? I think not.)

And lets not forget: after DAD there were a lot of people who had lost confidence in Bond. Not only did Barbara and Michael G. rejuvenate the series...it was done without Cubby. (Pierce was always Cubby's choice)

For the first time since Cubby died I feel the series is back on track... the future looks exciting and the possibilties are endless...and all this was done by a woman who had to overcome the pressure of intense expectations.

Barbara is not just Cubby's daughter anymore, folks.

She is now the boss...and all power to her.

BB deserves a huge amount of credit for overseeing CR. Be nice to see her collecting a BAFTA for best Brit film. :007)

I like this thread, I like it a lot. Really. Reminds me of another thread praising Babs ( ;) ), but you can't have too many of those these days IMHO. Nice to see her getting the props after taking such a beating last year--a great Bond film is the best revenge. :v Kudos to her. {[]

Kudos to Babs, indeed. Casino Royale has exceeded virtually all my expectations. I thought Babs and Michael G were moving in the wrong direction by dispensing with Pierce Brosnan and re-booting the franchise with Daniel Craig as Bond. I thought it was an unnecessary gamble.

Yes, indeed. Three cheers for Barbara Broccoli. I've always had a good deal of respect for her, and she hasn't let me down. I'm not sure exactly what she contributes as opposed to the others (Michael Wilson, the directors etc.) but no doubt she knows what she's doing. Long may she remain producing the Bond films as she is clearly good at it. (and not half bad to look at either! ;) )

Now for Bond 22, and I feel confident that it'll be anothor good'un.

I'll definitely tip my hat to Babs for casting Daniel Craig as James Bond. Somehow she was able to see his potential before many of us could. However, as far as the reboot is concerned... :# That is a whole different story.

I'll throw in my two cents as well.

My wife has always obliged me by attending Bond films when they get released. She could always take him or leave him but she always went because she knew I enjoyed the films.

This particular film was antother story entirely. I have heard her tell several of her friends that they really should see the film, and how incredibly hot Daniel Craig is as Bond.

Did BB know what she was doing when she cast Craig in the role? In a word...absolutely.

As crass as it might sound, Bab's got balls . . . she took a risk and paid it off handsomely. This is the first time in ages that I've actually looked forward to Bond's next adventure . . .

    She got AU$23 from me, and while I may criticise many of her decisions, I did enjoy the film. I don't regret in the slightest seeing it twice, as I quite enjoyed it, and really, that's all I can ask for. -{
