    Hmmm...the trailer reminds me of the last film. Quick edits and shaking cameras. Heaven forbid they should actually let the audience look at anything.

    I like the way Bourne asks, in true American fashion, for a Coke, "Bottled, not canned."

    I'm looking forward to this one. I loved the first one. And he was awfully good in The Good Shepherd, IMO

    Same here. :) I am a big Bourne fan (the films only; Ludlum's books are awful in my view) and I actually think that the Damon pictures are examples of *very* high-quality contemporary film-making. In fact, they are two of the most engaging thrillers in recent years, and I hope that Ultimatum lives up to the precedent set by the first two.

    I was going to ask about the novels. So far I've gotten mixed opinions on them.

    I like the Bourne films alot, and I will definitely be going to see this one, but I have one request. Is it possible for Greengrass not to shake the camera during chase and fight scenes? That aspect (which, to my disappointment, Batman Begins shared) annoyed my during the second film as I sometimes couldn't work out what was going on during the action scenes.

    Can't say I found the shakey-cam a problem. For some scenes it is a bit OTT (like the one right at the beginning of Supremacy where Bourne is typing up his memoirs- didn't really need to be shakey, that one) but the action works very well with it, I think.

    For this particular film, the shaky or hand held camera technique doesn't bother me too much even if it was a tad overdone in the last picture.


    I would've enjoyed Supremacy's climactic car chase alot more had they not done that but it didn't kill the overall product for me. I suppose it adds to the realism by somehow drawing the viewer into the movie? I dunno...

    Batman Begins doing that of course is another matter... 8-)

    Me too. :# I mean, I still enjoyed the film, but I certainly would have enjoyed it more if the camera was more steady.

    Hey Rogue, sorry to say, but I found the "Bourne" films a bore and quite depressing and bleak. I tried watching them on several occasions and I always drop off. This is going to shock you but.. I prefer Casino Royale over them any day. Yes, you heard right. I'll take Craig over Damon any day of the week :007)

    Hey to each his own, Spec. Funny you should pick Craig's Bond over Bourne when alot of the nasty fighting styles and tone that DC's Bond displays derives from Damon's Bourne. It wasn't until Craig's turn in the tux that you realized that, if not for the first time, Bond was convincingly "dangerous". Yes there is a difference with that statement; his predecessors were bada**es but on a good day most of us could fight like they did. Craig in action wasn't as predictable and you knew you were going to be on the worst end of the stick if you had to face him.

    It certainly came into play as to why I like CR so much myself; it was very Bourne-like. Please, posters, I said that not to start an argument about who's hacking who.


    What I like about the Bourne films is that it sets its own tone which is always subjective with any viewer but it separates itself from the more famous spy- Bond. I think what turns many moviegoers on or off with Jason's adventures is the style of pacing (which can bore or lose you in the midst of it all if you had half a care) and the head-aching moving camera shots which I've heard several people complain about...


    Spec, I would encourage you to go check it out when it opens and see if the third one warms you a little more. If you feel compelled to boo the screen in the middle of it all, make sure that you're wearing your "leg-breaking" jacket. :v :D

    In full agreement, Dan. The excessive use of hand held cameras detracted from my enjoyment of The Bourne Supremacy. I was also a bit disappointed that Marie was killed off so early in the film, I liked her. Otherwise, the rest was terrific entertainment.

    I loved 'The Bourne Supremacy.' I didn't find its melancholy worldview depressing. If anything it suits the times we live in. I can't think of another action thriller that ends with the hero apologising to somebody whose life has been damaged by their actions. That was quite remarkable. I hope the 'Bourne Ultimatum' can live up to the first two. The teaser certainly looks promising.

    Darn, my office's firewall won't allow me to watch the clip. Anyway, short of seeing it tonight if I remember to at home, I wonder what the plot will look like, since the first film totally cancelled out the plotline of "Ultimatim" the novel.

    Like Spectreisland, the Bourne films have always left me cold as well. The bleak tone, humorless stories, and generally bland palette of the first two movies did not make for a particularly enjoyable viewing experience for me. They're well made films, just not my cup of tea. And I also do see similarities between Bourne and CR, which might explain my more neutral feeling towards that particular Bond entry and Craig's interpretation - again, both are solid, just not particularly compatible with my preferences. Oddly enough, Spectreisland sees no such similarities between Bourne and CR; he's watched the latter about 7 times already and views them as very different animals - to each his own I suppose, we all see what we want to see.

    That's what I figured. You know as men, we have the habit of changing our stride, demeanor and whatnot when we wear something that we think looks good on us. I'm sure the same applies to Spec. :))

    It's well worth catching on DVD as you can see the whole picture better on TV (widescreen of course) than when looking up at said shaky camera in cinema!

    Okay, I'll admit that the poster isn't very "boosting" but it is just a teaser poster.
    Personally, I would've thought up something alot more attention-grabbing but y'know...

    It's not as if Matt Damon has an ugly face? Why just show the back of his head?

    Personally ive always been mixed about Greengrass. While he's a good director and so forth I dont like his off camera comments - mainly relating to the Bond franchaise and also his views on the big studio system.

    I got this excerpt from a spoiler-laden website on the upcoming Bourne installment; whether or not the website holds any credence in its information, remains to be seen so I didn't post it in its entirety.


    I don't recall ever hearing of Worst Previews...

    What to Expect: Although the Bourne series is largely influenced by the James Bond franchise, the Jason Bourne flicks have put the more famous British super spy to shame over the past few years and may be the primary reason behind the producers’ decision to take the Bond series back to its stripped-down espionage roots with the very rugged, Bourne-like Daniel Craig in the lead. The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy have combined for just under $300 million at the domestic box-office and have made nearly $500 million total worldwide, making the third part in the series one of the most anticipated films of the summer. It is no surprise then that screenwriter Tony Gilroy, who wrote the first two parts, was reportedly paid $2 million to do the third installment. Additionally, Oscar winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love, Brazil) has been hired on to help with the script. Director Paul Greengrass, who took over for Doug Liman after the first part, is back to helm the final chapter and may just be the biggest selling point for me. Some have complained that his relentless use of hand held cameras deflates and distorts the onscreen action to the point that it becomes completely meaningless, but personally, I find that the hyper-real approach is both gritty and invigorating and allows me to feel as though I am a part of the action. Of course, Greengrass used the same approach in the astonishing, September 11th themed United 93, which was a most remarkable and realistic examination that pointed no fingers and merely observed the gut-wrenching struggle endured on that fateful day, while also serving as a potent and thoughtful allegory on the sometimes hopeless state of world affairs today. So, I say, bring the shaky-camera-jump-cut-heavy-tightly-crafted action flick on.
