£41,000 for a gearknob?...you must be joking

Yesterday, a number of bond-related items came up at the annual Aston Martin auction at Newport Pagnall. Some, sadly, (the buyers wouldn't like to know) can be bought on ebay for a mere fraction of their hammer price ! :))

However, the highlight was the gearknob-ejector-button from the special effects car in Goldfinger.

"According to information supplied by the vendor, after the filming and promotion of the James Bond films Goldfinger (1964) and Thunderball (1965), BMT 216A, Aston Martin chassis number DP/216/1, 'the special effects DB5 car', which was owned by Aston Martin and loaned to Eon productions for the films, was returned to Works Service at Newport Pagnell on 6th September 1967. Works were carried out including the replacement of the film used gear lever knob. The car then continued to tour as an exhibition piece......"

Well worth a look on the catalogue;

And lots 65-95 are well worth a look too, especially if you plan to throw out any Bond-related junk....before you do, make sure the same item didn't just sell for £200 ! 8-)
