Kara Milovy

After noticing all the negative criticism that Stacey Sutton (AVTAK) and Mary Goodnight (TMWTGG) get, I wonder why Kara Milovy from TLD doesn't get as much negative criticism too.

How much use is she to Bond throughout TLD? Well not much in my opinion. She seems very passive, and doesn't really do much to help Bond. She can't seem to do anything right (except play a Cello).

The only use to Bond she was, from what I remember anyway, was providing the Cello case for their escape. However, this escape was downright stupid anyway, and one of the weakest elements of the film IMO.

In AVTAK, Stacey Sutton at least attacks a guy (with the vase of her grandad's ashes), and also attacks Zorin in the blimp, so she does do a bit of physical attacking now and then. In TLD however, Kara Milovy doesn't even do anything like this does she? Remind me if she does, as I may have forgotten something.

Finally, in my opinion, Kara Milovy isn't even that attractive either.

What's your opinion? Do you think that Kara Milovy was a weak Bond girl?

I thought she spit in someones face. I think it was Koskov? Yeah I know it isn't much, but it's something.

Kara hits a guard in the head with a bucket when they are imprisoned at the Afghan airbase. :D

Kara is innocent and defenseless because that is how the character was written. And IMO Marayam D'abo did a terrific job portraying that.

Kara is not the most exciting Bond girl, or by any means one of my favorites, but I'd still take her for a ride on the ferris wheel. ;%

    Kara has charm...

That accent, those lashes, that innocent air. You'd want to know her. Stacey Sutton on the other hand just squeals.

Kara gets your grudging admiration for being a concert cellist. Its interesting. Stacy Sutton on the other hand doesnt convince me as state geologist.Soft porn, yes - state geologist - no...

Kara is integral to the plot. Its through her that Bond tracks Koskov to Morocco. She also developes as a character - her love for Koskov is her weakness allowing both Koskov and Bond to exploit her. But she comes through in the end when Koskov uses her to betray Bond and in turn betrays her. Thats what makes TLD a great film there are so many strands and threads...

Stacy Sutton is also betrayed by the villain - in the least convincing "I'm gonna get revenge by tearing up this cheque" scene in history.

One is a stradivarius cello - the other is a battered drum with a hole in it.

I like Kara. Dalton and D'Abo work really well together. She's supposed to be a Bond girl that Bond has to look after, not one of the modern Pam from LTK types who can look after themselves. Koskov has used her because she is innocent and naive. Bond has to protect her for the same reason. The scene where she finds Bond in her room and he gets her to trust him is terrific and beautifully acted, especially by Dalton.

Ive always liked Kara. She was innocent yes, ans whilst she may not have helped Bond along the way, Bond certainly did use her to pump her for information.

And despite her being innocent, she never seemed to come across as being stupid - such as getting stuck in a midget's car, or letting a giant, motorised blimp sneak up on her.

I think in the end it boils down to not what the girl is, but how well the character is written. Hence the reason why people dislike Jinx or Christmas.

Oh taity don't make me recite the "why Stacey couldn't hear the blimp" speech again. ;)

Anyway, Kara is a weak Bond girl. Annoying and naive, she did nothing to move the plot along aside from having a link to Koskov. Oftentimes she was more of a hindrance than help, especially during the fight aboard the Hercules.

She's nowhere as bad as Goodnight, who was a bungling fool, but Stacey is eons ahead of her, as she actually moves the plot along and has a reason to be working with Bond. Stacey's not the best fighter, but she was willing to try if it was needed. She also knocked Scarpine out with a fire extinguisher, thank you very much.

Kara Milovy's an attractive intelligent adult and she behaves like one.By contrast, the other two women--Stacy Sutton and Mary Goodnight--are little more than blow-up dolls:pretty but brainless.

. Annoying and naive, she did nothing to move the plot along aside from having a link to Koskov. .

    You are joking?

Nothing to move the plot along? Kara Milovy IS THE PLOT. Certainly for the first hour.

First of all, her fake assassination attempt convinces Bond that Koskov is still out there. And the fact that he tried to get her killed means he is up to no good.

Her link with Koskov means he has to defect her to Vienna where he uses her feelings for the Russian to track him down. And in Morocco it is she who betrays Bond when Koskov convinces he is an agent sent to kill him.

Thats good storytelling with lots of twists and turns. So Kara is integral to TLD which is a murky film where everyoe is using everyone else.

And, Maryam D'Abo rises to the challenge of playing her in what is a very three dimensional Bond girl. The actress, for once, has the acting chops to carry it off.

Kara was a sweet lass. A classic example of Fleming's "bird with a wing down." D'Abo and Dalton did indeed have excellent chemistry.

I thought she fit in the story flawlessly and was an excellent Bond girl. And she was very integral to the plot. Heck, she shows up Kamran Shaw in front of his entire group of men, which helps out Bond immensely.

    I dug her :x

I don't mind her. I don't think she is a great Bond girl, but I think she is far better than the one that came just before her. Kara was actually one of the very few things about TLD which I didn't hate. :))

To each their own. Personally, I find very little in TLD to hate, but different strokes and all that.

While I wouldn't waste time comparing characters to other characters (especially not to bimbos like Stacey and Goodnight), I agree completely with your points on Kara. To me, she's the most irritating part of an otherwise good film. Insipid is the word I can best think of to describe her.
