It's not like he made a load of stuff up- it's not a terrible piece. Yes, he got the 'first novel in 42 years' thing wrong, but so did the BBC, and I rather get the feeling that IFP may have been happy to let people hop to that conclusion- it is a much nicer story than 'first Bond novel in five years' or 'first Bond novel in 40-odd yearsnot have been written by a hack' or whatever.
And I think the term 'Legend has it' might apply more to the bit about Fleming drinking cocktails in the evening and socialising rather than the traveling to Jamaica bit- let the man finish his sentence before bashing him!

It's not a terrible article, but I don't think it's a very good one either. And of course they'd like you to believe the 42 year theory, that's why I mentioned the term ad campaign.
But I'm just happy to get, for all extensive purposes, something that could very well be an excellent novel, on the 100 year anniversary of IF's birth, so arguing about the relevancy of this report is a frivolous and ultimately worthless endeavor, one I will cease to pursue.
I'm very happy to see that Sebastian Faulks is writing Ian Fleming's James Bond--as opposed to a version of the character designed to also evoke EON's interpretation.As far as I'm aware,this really hasn't happened with 007 since Kingsley Amis wrote Colonel Sun.Such a take on James Bond might be a risky business decision for IFP to make,but it's certainly--in my opinion anyway--the correct one artistically.
Here's hoping Devil May Care proves to be a success...:)

long time no read, write, post anything (for those who remember me hi, for those who doesn´t, hi as well)
I have to say that i've only have read two non-fleming books: Goldeneye(nice, nothing special) and Silverfin (good, clever, almost amazing) but because i haven't got any other in spanish.
About Faulks an "Devil May Care" first, he is a perfect stranger to me, but so was Highson and i´m waiting for "Mision Bloodfever".
I have an issue with the title, i still don`t get it(ok, i need to read the book to get a picture) but the name itself sounds like a Bond spoof to me (just to me), is like it doesn't say anything aboutthe book, rather that something terrible would happen just like the devil may care about it, but I still doesn't get it.
But i hope i won't have to wait like three years to read it.
And other thing, Barbara Broccoli is a great producer, the daughter of "Cubby", the discoverer of Craig andall that stuff, but i don´t believe that she would have other opinion besides the obvious one... i mean, Flemming manuscript, give me a break, she won´t say something bad about it. and i don't think it would become a movie (perhaps plot or elements, but the title is hard (unless they use it as a cameo in Bond 22)
