Dry cleaning is the mark of a cad and a bounder. The harsh chemicals can break-down the natural stiffness or dressing of a fabric, and break down the bonded elements in a fused (glued) low-end suit. In either case the suit will start to take on a limp appearance

A gentleman would have his suit sponged and pressed (as did Cary Grant after a day's crop-dusting in North By Northwest)

And you thought Mantis was a harsh judge.
