Roger Moore receives star!

The legendary Roger Moore has recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. :D I would like to offer him my congratulations as IMO he truly deserves it. {[] I was surprised however, that while Brosnan has a star, Connery does not.     Good news. He deserves one. He might not be the best actor in the world but he is a true star in the old Hollywood sense and his work for UNICEF has been amazing.

    According to what I have read, stars on the Walk of Fame are not chosen by votes or awarded by any committee. They are purchased for $25K. It's a dubious honor, reagrdless of who the person being "honored" is.
    If people took up a collection to get a star for Sean Connery, they could get him a star. I can think of a lot better uses for the money.

    And as for an honor--gee, having a setion of sidewlak for people to step on must rate high on the list of great awards. This amounts to nothing more than a curiosity for tourists.

    Good for Sir Roger! He most definitely deserves this honor as he kept the Bond series alive during the 70s and 80s whether you liked him or not! He's a great actor and a wonderful human being, so the star on the Walk of Fame could not go to a better person! -{

    I don't doubt this is true, RJJB, but you still get my vote for "Buzzkill Post of the Week." :p

    As a Bond fan who was introduced to the films and the character through his interpretation, I believe that anything that gets Sir Rog some spotlight at this point in his life can only be a good thing. If I still lived out there, I would gladly bring some brass polish and a cloth once or twice a year! {[]

    By the way, am I the only one who thinks Roger looks like a million bucks for a 80 year-old?

    What's ironic is that Roger has gotten lambasted over the years for daring to get older during his tenure as Bond.(AVTAK anyone?)

    But look at him now! Not only has he`aged beyond gracefully, that sparkling personality would melt the heart of any mature lady in the crowd.

    Bond at 80?!? Roger still looks the part and, in a crazy sort of way, looks like he could cause some serious damage to any henchman who has no manners.

    I kid you not. Roger in AVTAK has never gotten respect. But 22 years later Roger looks like what Bond should and WOULD look like at 80.

    All Hail Roger! The Bond elder staesman and the series greatest amabassador are just two of his unofficial titles, but Roger is more...he is a reminder of a time when Stars acted like STARS!

    Pure class all the way.

    He certainly did age very well. After all, he was 5 years older than Connery when he did LALD (compared to DAF) and he looked alot younger.

    Me too. :D I adore Sir Roger and he has always delighted me, from the early days of my Bond fandom to now, and hopefully well into the future. It has been a source of some annoyance for me that in recent years, he has been dismissed by a large portion of the mainstream and I think that the star shows, that no matter what the current interpretation of Bond is, Moore played a hugely significant part in the success (and IMO the brilliance) of the Bond films. :D

    It is very cool that Roger Moore has been honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is just bizarre that Connery has not.

    Please Hollywood. Give Sir Sean his star.

    Again, this is a purchased "honor". Today Ricky Martin received his star. Just makes it seem that much more important, doesn't it.

    I think the most important award Mr. Moore receives is the recognition and whatever awards he gets for his humanitarian efforts. That is admirable. Stars on a sidewalk pale in comparison.

    No, I'm trying to put it in perspective. People have asked why it took so long for this "honor", when there are no real criteria for receiving a star. There is no panel of judges to decide who gets "immortalized". Moore was not slighted because it didn't happen sooner, because no one paid the money to make it happen earlier. So there is no need for complaints about the award schedule. If you take a look at the list of other luminarties who have been honored, you'll see it really is not a very elite group. Among them Bob Barker, Big Bird, Vanna White, Susan Lucci and Donald Duck.

    And like I said, Moore's work for UNICEF and other causes is for more worthy of acknowledgement and public appreciation than anything provided by a sidewalk that is primarily a tourist attraction.

    And to be completely honest, I think one of the biggest accolades Moore can have is that he has so many ardent fans here and on other Bond sites.
