I think your suggestion of Hugh Laurie is absolutely brilliant. He wasn't on my radar because his American accent on "House" is so convincing I rarely think of him as British anymore. Laurie has a sardonic wit that would play very well off of Daniel Craig. Absolutely LOVE this idea. {[]

I think simply for that reason that he would make a good Q.
I have always seen Q as more of a father figure to Bond, setting him straight and the like.
Having him be taller than Bond would give him that physical authoritative presence.

She would be a fine miss Moneypenny. The problem with Emily Blunt is her fame. When an actress can be the star of a major movie (Young Victoria), she is too famous to play Moneypenny. Honeysuckle Weeks or Rachell Sterling are better candidates in my opinion.
her fame can possibly help the character. moneypenny should be able to hold her own against bond. i can see scenes between her and craig playing a playful cat and mouse game.

Amen. And I was thinking this morning that Steve Coogan might make a good Q--he has the comic qualities and can handle the passive-aggressive know-it-all persona as well.
Emil;y Blunt would be great as Moneypenny, but she will never do it, the role is much too small for an accomplished actress whose name is usually near the top of the credits.
As I have stated before, I don't think we need a Q, but I would like to see Moneypenny back. If I were casting the part I would look for someone who is cute, not gorgeous. She should be a little flirtateous, the kind of woman that might leave that one extra button unbuttoned on her blouse. Someone like Bryce Dallas Howard, although the part might be too small for her too.
If we're going to see a return of a Q character, I think it needs to be a drier more faceless/humourless civil service boffin type. He should be played by a little known actor and if he is humourous, it should be almost unintended and at his own expense and eccentricity (like many of the IT folks we all likely work with...sorry if there are IT folks reading this ) As many others have suggested, a Desmond Llewellyn Q wouldn't work opposite Craig and the current incarnation of Bond. We could have Bond being equipped with sophisticated gear by someone more bureaucratic and real , but a traditional Q just wouldn't work. What happens in the future depends on which direction Bond takes post-DC.
...all of that said, if we did go back to a whacky Q, Bill Nighy really would do the trick!
I think that Q is an important part of Bond, his influence is so inmense that almost every spymovie has a Q-type character. We can mention a lot of examples like I spy or spy kids, if those can be considered parodies, even more serious films like the new Batman has a Q (Morgan´s Freeman character).
Now, with all this parodies, its impossible that James Bond, the gadget-master source doesn´t have a Q anymore. I know Desmond Llewelyn was unique, but if the Bond actor has been changed, we can get used to a new Q.
About Moneypenny, she´s also a traditional character, as you have mentioned before Emily Blunt would be a nice choice.

I like the Saffron Burrows suggestion very much. She's sexy and sophisticated. A strong alternative would be Rebecca Hall.
As regards Q: I think it should be someone less "well known" than Gambon and also younger. I would go with the actor who gives the presentation about traced banknotes in /Quantum of Solace/. That way we get a subtle continuity between the films and the thrill of finding out that Q is "already among us".
john hurt is 70yo but Q should still be somebody of the older generation as I like it that way
i know dakota fanning is only 16 but miss moneypenny should be younger as most accounts are under 40 in this generation maybe they could make her look about 10 years older though
maybe even make john hurt look like this it looks more I know how to make some decent gadgets kind of look
Personally, I really like the idea of Hugh Laurie as the next Q. I don't know how he'd play against Craig's Bond, but I can really see Laurie being a great fit for the role.
There are some suggestions here I really like, such as Emily Blunt, Saffron Burrows and Rebecca Hall for Moneypenny and Hugh Laurie as Q. But I still think Monypenny and Q perhaps should be played by someone less known. The two are character roles and not star roles. After all, how many times did you see Louis Maxwell or Desmond Llewellyn in anything outside Bond? My favs are still Honeysuckle Weeks and Ben Whishaw. Yes, think Q should be younger and more serious and believable.
