UK: Times free Bond book on Saturday

On Saturday the Times is giving away a copy of Octopussy for free; it has the recent Penguin pulp fiction design. It also seems to have the short story 007 in New York, which is a rarity and may have some bearing on QoS if rumours are true.

The ever reliable mi6.co.uk has more.

I think that after Saturday's OP, you have to make sure you pic up your Times from WH Smith to get your free book.

That is correct I got mine today and indeed to get the other you need to pop down to WHSmiths from Monday. I'll probably only get a chance to get Tuesday's and Wednesday's as they are my days off -which is a shame as I want all of them. :(

On Monday it is Casino Royale
    Tuesday Live and Let die
    Wednesday Moonraker
    Thursday
    Diamonds Are Forever
    Friday From Russia with Love.

The edition of Octopussy and 007 In New York is a nice little collectable. The latter story has a preface from Peter Janson-Smith giving the publishing history and the original title "Reflections In A Carey Cadillac" as well as a few introductory remarks from Fleming himself.

In the accompanying Times books section there's a four-page article (as well as the front cover) with an overview of Fleming's Bond work, encapsulated from Henry Chancellor's James Bond The Man And His World published by John Murray in 2005, alongside quotes from the likes of Charlie Higson and Len Deighton.

All in all, not bad for £1.30...

Just got my LALD. I think these'll be good for collectors- they're Times special editions with a Devil May Care ad on the back.

I agree well worth collecting -and how fantastic that they are basically bought for the price of the paper! Shame its only a selection and not a complete set.

Now that's nice! A bargain for those who haven't got the books (or want the new covers and intros). Well spotted, stumac7! I won't be buying these myself (how many covers do I need?!) but anyone who's still to enjoy the originals might do worse than take a look here.

As I'm on Flexi time I managed to go each day to WH Smith before going on to work. From Wednesday a colleague asked me to get him a copy. So I just bought 2 copies of The Times and got my 2 books each day. (Didn't test the limit of how many you could buy!) The 2 DMC extracts were in Sat. and Monday's Times and the book is out Wed.28th. With the Octopussy & 007 in New York, the cover has the blonde Trigger from The Living Daylights, but this story is not in this cut-down Times edition. It is -in the full version.
